The thing about kudos is that they mirror currency in many ways. If you have a small
group of people artificially generating kudos with alts, or ol' Turbo Tax and Benny Boy
printing money, it shows up in the value attached to the currency, be it kudo or cash.
People by and large will see the leader board and say to themselves, "Meh alts",
and not assign much value to those users. The same goes for currency in large part as well,
people see a lot of printed dollars and things that are traded in dollars, *cough OIL cough*
become more expensive because there is less intrinsic value associated with the dollar.
The solution is to strengthen the currency, be it kudo or cash. The problem is that
doing so is a really big pain in the arse. Ultimately, the "printed" currency has to be removed
from the supply. This would mean some kind of auditing of kudos to remove those assigned
to users by alts of that user. Honestly, that just seems like a nightmare and really, a waste
of time that Mods could be using to either remove drama, approve icons or just post with people.
If you are curious, the reason why interest rates were so high in the 80's was because
Paul Volker was removing all the money that Jimmy Carter had printed up. It took years
to get the supply down to a more manageable level.
