Image Gallery FAQ (read before upload) upd.2-17-11

[ Edited ]

Alright, Image Galleries are alive.  You can finally show off that rad tat or your fanart of Ichigo peeing on a Ford logo.

Read how to upload those images below.

Also read below how to make one of your images your user icon (i know right!)

And as always there's going to be rules for this thing.  So those naked Molotov Cocktease cosplay shots will have to stay in your personal collection.  Sorry to ruin all the fun.

How to Upload

  1. On your profile page scroll all the way to the bottom left column and you'll see a link that says View Image Gallery. Click it.
  2. This will take you to your upload page as well as a page dedicated to your entire gallery.
  3. Click on the Browse button to find an image saved on your computer.  Select it and hit open on the dialog box.
  4. This step is important.  Name the image something as descriptive as possible.  If it's an image of Frylock yelling at Master Shake, put Frylock yelling at Master Shake in the Image Title field.  If it's you posing Myspace style in a dirty bathroom put "(username) posing Myspace style in a dirty bathroom".  Images that don't have a descriptive title will be rejected. So don't have it named some random number or meaningless text.  If it's something show based being used as an Avatar, include the show name, episode number, character and anything else in the title to show it's not a spoiler. And take off that .jpg or .png or whatever from the end in the title.
  5. If you want no one but you (and mods & admins) to see it, check Hide in Gallery.
  6. Finally, check the I have read, understand and agree to the Terms of Use (which you should look through to make sure you're a good boy or girl) to upload the image.
  7. It then goes in to your Image Gallery but is marked Awaiting Approval and will not be shown publicly until a mod or admin has seen it and approved it.

Naming Images when Uploading

  • Name your image something descriptive.  Use spaces between words.
  • If the image is something you drew or took a picture of include that in the title so we'll know it's yours.  If it's ambiguous we won't accept images that are drawn or photos that don't say they were done by you.
  • If you drew it put this text in the title (drawn by *username*)
  • If you took the photo put this text in the title (photo by *username*)
  • If it's an image of a person, include that in the title.
  • Take of the .jpg or .png or .gif at the end of the title.
  • No meaningless numbers or characters.
  • If it's from an AS show, give the character name, episode number, show etc.
  • If these aren't followed your image will be rejected.
  • If you upload fanart from any property, such as a movie, cartoon, tv show, comic, etc, include the full source.  Character and show, so we can research it easier. (updated 2/17/11)
Using Your Gallery

When you click into your Gallery from your Profile page, you'll see a thumbnail gallery of your images.
When you click an image you'll go to it's individual page and you'll see it full size.
When in the thumbnail view select Image Options to turn on Batch Processing.
This puts a little checkbox next to each image so that you can mass delete and mass privatize/publicize.
When looking at an image's individual page you can delete it, privatize, publicize and if you're looking at someone else's Gallery, Flag an Image for Review.
Flagging an image alerts the mods and admins that you think an image has questionable content and should be reviewed again.
DO NOT keep re-flagging when you see that it's been approved again.
DO NOT flag a whole bunch of images because you're bitter about something.
You face mod action if you violate these.

Setting your Avatar from a Gallery Image

  1. Click on the My Settings link next to your name on any boards page.
  2. Click on the Avatars tab.
  3. Click "From Your Image Gallery" right below that.
  4. Select the image you want as your Avatar

Rules & Guidelines for setting your Avatar

  • If you want a custom Avatar from your Gallery be sure to upload an image that's 80x80 and as small a KB size as possible.  8 KB is the standard.
  • Larger images will be force scaled down and may look bad.  Be aware of that.  You don't want a crunchy looking avatar.
  • If you're found to be sporting an avatar that is larger than 8kb, it will have to be deleted (or if the mod is feeling generous, switched to a different one, but that takes time so don't expect it.)
  • Do not upload or use spoilery Avatars.  When naming them include the show, character, episode number and everything that applies to let the moderator know they're not spoilers.  Insufficiently named icons uploading will be rejected.
  • You can set .gifs to Avatars, but be warned that the first person to abuse this will get it taken away for everyone.

DOs and DONTs of Image Uploading

  • Read the Disclaimer under the upload tool.  Violating this will get your image rejected.
  • Upload only images you own or Adult Swim owned/licensed images.
  • No pictures of anyone under 18.  You face a permaban if one gets through somehow.  We can see birthdates, but only if those are truthful.  If there's any question that someone is below 18 in an image, it will be rejected.  Sorry about that.  It's a strict rule.
  • Be careful with uploading an image of yourself.  This is the Internet.  It's like the wild west for creepers.  Use your best judgement.
  • If you upload an image that is offensive to one of the moderators of the Image Gallery having to look at the image, prepare to be banned.
  • No nudity.  Obviously.
  • No pictures of people that aren't you and didn't give permission to put it up.  That includes celebrities.
  • Title your images appropriately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of image files can I upload?

You can upload .jpgs (jay-pegs), .pngs (pings), and .gifs (jifs).  Yes, that's how they're pronounced.

How big can the file size be?

300 KBs.

Why can't I upload any more images?

You have a max of 100 images that you can have in your Gallery.  Delete some older ones if you want more.

What is taking so long?  Approve my image!

There's only so many people with approval powers and ridiculous amounts of images are being uploaded all the time.  There's a queue, so we'll get to your image eventually.  Remember those days when this didn't even exist?

Where's my image gallery?  Why can't I upload anything?

Your permission to use the gallery is tied to your rank in order to reward more frequent users of the boards.  Once you achieve the SwimNerd rank at 100 posts, 1000 page views, 200 minutes online and one week since registering you'll see your Image Gallery.

Can I draw my own image of something non-AS related and put it up?

Yes.  It's your artwork so you own it.  It goes under the category of fan art.

Can I take an image off of the Internet and Photoshop it and claim it as my own?

We'll only approve it if we feel it's gone through a certain level of manipulation.  To the point where it's obvious you're not just sharpening or adding a caption to skirt the system.  If it's genuine fan art and it's obvious it took you time to create, it's fine.
