If you have been waiting for an approval of an image for your image gallery only to have it suddenly rejected and you don't know why, I am hoping I can shed some light on that for you.
First and foremost read the IMAGE GALLERY GUIDELINE THREAD. It's long and there are a crap load of rules, I know. But if you have a question it is most likely in there. There is also and IMAGE GALLERY QUESTION THREAD to get answers that the FAQ does not cover.
Despite this, I am seeing a lot of pics in the queue that I am having to reject. Which I know is upsetting to the ppl submitting them.
I know that all good things on the ASMB come with tons of rules and guidelines to remember. I'm hoping we can all figure this out together so that we can enjoy this little bit of freedom (with conditions) that we have been given.
SO LISTEN UP!
TIPS TO NOT GET YOUR IMAGE REJECTED:
This covers most of the rejections I have seen so far. There hasn't been as much of an issue with content. Please keep in mind that there are A LOT of images always waiting to be approved, so mods do not have time to consider each one for very long. A good description may insure that your image is approved and there may be nothing wrong with your image other than a faulty label. So please label correctly.
I have PMed some ppl with questions about their images, but that will not continue as time really does not permit that as a realistic endeavor.
Good luck.
Addendum:
The primary reason for rejection is image names. Please folow these guilines frome the IMAGE FAQ that is linked above to name your pics:

It's my understanding that you may because you own the image. Since you drew it.
Just in the title or description or whatever, you need to let us know that it'sa fan art image that you drew. And if you are the guy I just PMed asking about a fan art image, you need to PM me back so I can tick you off my list.

TIPS TO NOT GET YOUR IMAGE REJECTED:
- Only submit images that [as] owns, from shows that [as] owns, or images that you own (sorry, Ellen page)
- Images for icons are to be no larger that 80x80/8kb and other images no larger than 300kb with a ttl storage of 100 images.
- Label images with appropriate description. (not your screen name)
- For show icons: provide show, character name, and episode number
- If the show image is not from a specific episode, give as much pertinent info as seems reasonable: show, character, description (wallpaper, promo bump, etc.)
- If it is an [as] game image, let us know. Or a bump image. etc. Label accordingly so we know how the image relates to [as].
- If you own the image, please provide as much description as necessary to let us know. For example ("pic I took of my dog" or "my fan art from Naruto" or "my photoshopped image of your mom's butt")

Humbug said no.
It isn't likely.
I suppose just in case someone found away to get around the submission process, or something.

Okay, so a picture of a figure that I own is acceptable. However a picture taken from a strat guide or a book I own doesn't qualify? Two faced hypocrisy, this place reeks of it.

Mods can have pictures of the US President photoshopped to include Spike's hair and cigarette though. Absolutely wonderful.

I'm sorry that [as] can't host the image that you would like to host. I know there are a lot of restrictions and it sucks.
Taking a close up photo of a trade marked thingie isn't enough of a work around to ignore the guideline, sorry.
Maybe you could do some fan art? Run your photo through some filters in photoshop or a silmilar (free) photo editing program. Make it look funky and artsy or even hand drawn. Tweak it in some creative fan arty way.
Call it fan art and be sure to let us know it's your original creation.
Profit.

To be fair, that image would not have been rejected for two reasons:
it was an original creation (fan art) and it was [as] related
So it really had a lot going for it. Though I see the point you're making. Mods in the past have had icons that are neither fan art nor owned by [as], and I am sure they will do that in the future too.
But when have mods ever been restricted by the same rules as everyone else? Mods are jerks that way, always with more sig space and able to post pictures and gifs and cus without a filter and all that.

No, because while you may own the photograph you took, you don't own the copyrighted material in the book or guide.
An action figure doesn't have that sort of copyright protection.

I could care less about more sig space, and being able to directly post pictures. I just find it hilarious that legal can side step issues for moderators, and those in the ghettos get the hog wash left after the rain storm. It's not an excuse, and I think it's very misleading. I'm not arguing anything though. It is what it is.

Okay, so who sets the rules to dictate that the photo I've taken is actually mine? There is no proof. If I take a picture of my desk right now and want to use it as an avatar, who is to say that I didn't just get that from a stock photo website?

True, but it's not likely. Who would be that lame to get a desk photo? That is why you have to be in the photo with a celebrity in order to prove it's your photo and that the celebrity won't go after AS because they claim they did not give permission to use it.

Let's assume I met Mel Gibson. I had a picture taken with Mel. I post the picture to use as my avatar. I'm in the picture. Mel Gibson still didn't get me express permission to use that photo for anything other than my scrap book. So Mel could get sue happy and still come after [as], even if I'm in the said photograph.
