What's the definition of "spamming" thread-wise?

As in, how many threads are you allowed to make one after another before it's considered spamming, and start catching the attention of the mods?

I always thought if the threads were posted second after second and really served no purpose, or had no real subject to either the post of the title of the thread itself, it was considered spam.

Or if it looked like it was just an attempt to annoy people or to up your post count it was spamming too, posting the same thing over and over falls into this as well.

That's the way I always understood, and as far as catching it, a mod might have to be on at the time it's going on to see it and do something about it, otherwise it'll get buried.

Yeah, it really depends on what they are about and what's in them. Also, kind of how.. close together.

I mean, if you make 80 ttly unique threads, but then you post somewhere that you made those threads for the sole purpose of increasing your post count, then you are in violation of the Terms.

Because there's no rule about posting ttly unique topics, but there is a rule against spamming for post count. So in that case, it's all about intent.

Or if someone is just making threads called "1", "2", "3", "4", .. and so on... That's pretty obvious.

The definition of spam here is pretty much the same as it is for email:

If you are posting advertisements for things (adspam)

Or if you are posting a copy/paste form message over and over in multiple locations.

If someone is posting a lot of threads at once, we might take a look to see what's up there, but in and of itself, there's no rule against it.

Piggybacking on this, has it been decreed that joke threads in Babbling are now verboten? By that, I mean making a thread with a subject that plays on the title of somebody else's. I've seen them get locked in the past, but usually only after they've multiplied to point of filling half the page. Now it seems like they'll get locked even if there's only two or three, which kinda strikes me as nipping something in the bud before there's even a hint that it's going to be a problem. (Some of my longer-running threads have been ones that were made in response to other threads and then took on lives of their own.)
In case you're wondering, no, I do not celebrate Wookiee Life Day. Wookiee Life Day is for simps.

No there hasn't been a "decree". This isn't a "now" thing. That is to say, it's not an out of the blue new, out of left feild policy.

Repeat threads and spam type threads or threads that take over the folder have always been locked. Because this is something that the same ppl do in Babbling over and over, the threads get locked. It used to be an every now and then thing, the threads would get made, they'd fill the page, ppl would have fun, then they'd get locked. Now it's happening a couple of times a day and it's causing some real problems for folder navigability and pushing other discussions off the page a lot more quickly than they otherwise would be.

So when it happens, the threads are being closed. If you are one of the ppl that continues to do this, take it as a the hint that it is. I guess if the same ppl who do this over and over don't get the idea after locking the threads then, ya know, things get more agressive.

For now though, it's really only an issue of keeping the folder navigable and maintaining the balance between the goof and the discussion.

So even though his/her name has 10+ threads all on the same page, all about nothing, they aren't violating the rules.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFF*ongoing F spam*

Thank you.

if i see someone spamming..
and im talking like making 15 - 20 threads right after the other,
ya know. all within like.. 3 minutes or so,
ill screen cap the threads and link that to the mods.
just cuz that kind of spam chaps my ass.

when ive been going to IB lately..
theres a few peeps that clog up the front page with their threads.
it turns me off and i usually end up lurking or fb-ing or surfing somewhere.

You can call me FullMetalDuzi.
I demand this.

Hm... never thought of screen capping. You just gave me an idea.

It's almost like they think this is twitter or something. Aggravating.

**grok**, man. I don't do it all the time. Just occasionally when I see the opportunity to make a joke/have a little fun. If making jokes and having fun is no longer allowed in Babbling, then why should I bother posting on here at all?
