Custom ranks are earned by working on submissions for wiki building or they are prizes given for wining contests.

These are opportunities that are available to all users.

True, however, IBers tend to rank up faster and receive more kudos due to the sheer quantity of posting there.

Users who primarily post in other folders have expressed feelings of unfairness about that.

Besides, the writing competition always comes to noise (with prizes!) and only a handful of users enter.

And any user who wants to run a contest is welcome to bring their ideas here. Naraku did a banner contest in IB not too long ago.

It would be neat if there was a way to earn a higher kudos weight - maybe through required stats or something.

I'm fine with it. Now, it is my understanding that kudo weight can be altered if an Admin feels it is warranted. If you think you really deserve it the be weighted higher, giving a good reason would help. And showing it with your behavior.

As for the rest, 4-Hbabe is right. If you want a custom rank, check out the other folders and try out a few contests. That's the best advice anyone can give for that.

Frankly, this forum puts too much importance on kudos and the system is meaningless.
People aren't kudoing things because they have any value to any discussion whatsoever.
They just hand out kudos to friends for no real reason most the time.
It's just another way to spam.
The people on top of the kudo circle jerk pile have more kudos from individual users than days the kudo system has been in operation.

As for custom ranks, I have no problem with the way those are given out and seem far less abused as far as the way they are rewarded go. And that's coming from someone who's never had a custom rank (not for a lack of trying).

Let's see what happens when we take away the puppy.

More often with high kudos holders, there are a few people who have given out hundreds to the person. I think when a person has kudos from a lot of different people it's more meaningful - it means that you dont just have a couple friends kudoing anything you post, whether it's derpalicious or intelligent.
