My girlfriend and I would agree lol.
American Dad is one of my favorite series. For the duration of their run (all seven seasons), there are literally 3-4 episodes I genuinely do not care for/cannot watch. And those episodes mostly represent the most recent season.
American Dad is great. I love the sociopolitical humor.

I liked Family Guy as a teen but now not so much. I feel they try way too hard to get some "shock value" jokes and they just make me frustrated that people might find some of them funny, so I change the channel or turn off my tv. Due to Family Guy's popularity, American Dad didn't receive as much hype, but it's more chill on the humor..more like Futurama, not near as much over the top reaching for controversy comedy.

I feel like any idiot could watch family guy and be like "durhur funny"... But one must possess a "more than adequate" level of intelligence to understand all of the subtle humor that Seth has laced into American Dad.

I agree with whoever said some of the jokes aren't funny. Example: when Peter and Chris were racing while ice skating and Peter said somethiing about a girl who got her face burned by acid. If you have ever seen pictures of people who got their face burned by acid, you also would not like that joke. -_-

I laugh. There is a lot of things on a lot of shows and in a lot of humor in general that can sometimes be offensive or hit too close to home.
It's a cartoon though at the end of the day, no-one makes a big deal about an anvil or piano landing on Daffy Ducks heads, although you wouldn't like the effects that would really have on a person or animal. I've laughed about humor about cancer, and I've lost a lot of people in my family to it, but it's a cartoon show and comedy is comedy, to take it too seriously kind of ruins the simple and some times ridiculous humor it can offer. Then again it's all on taste, I'd be lying if I said shows like Family Guy or South Park have never crossed any lines with me, but I don't hold the few occasions where they may of bruised my tender sensibilities ruin the my opinion of the show considering how much of it I find completely amusing.
