I don't love this show, but I did find it quite entertaining.
Anyway, it's really a homage to your average arsehole cop drama that you have seen (or have heard of) on network TV for the last 30/40 years.
Assy is your average renegade cop. He's not afraid to twist the law to do his job. Assy always puts himself above everyone else, and is always teetering on that line of "He's too crazy to be a cop" and "He gets the job done and is the best guy!" This character has been played to death in cop dramas. And Assy tops them all. Because these characters are arseholes. But Assy, in the most over the top fashion, actually IS an arsehole, and is more arsehole than most of those arsehole TV cops combined. It's the purest form of a visual pun. You don't get much more literal than that.
I think the only bad part about the show is that it's not exactly deep. It covers all the cop show basics. Arsehole cop. Understanding, good guy partner, strict captain, corrupt mayor, etc. But in the end, it's still just a rampaging arsehole. Both literally and metaphorically. I'm glad it ended where it did, because the premise wasn't something that could hold for 30+ episode series. I feel it would have worked better as an infrequent 3-5 minute sketch on a sketch comedy show.
I'd say if you are uncomfortable with the show, you can try to imagine Assy as regular human, but still a complete and total jerk.
