This is my entry, please forgive me as I'm new at all of this.
It was a cold night, the shadows licked at the heels of the riding horse men. The shining moon overhead.
They did not know what hour they would reach the village, this did not concern them. "Hold Fast lads!" Yelled The Jaggedy Old Rider. "Keep Steady!"
The rain was pouring, and the mood was tense.
Through the trees they galloped, with their message they road on. In the dark, in the rain. They had to reach their destination.
But still, it seemed this road went on into the horizon.
As the men road in the dark and in the rain, light burst forth!
A crash of lightning struck the ground before the night riders!
"What is this!?", Shouted a man.
But then, something happened. "True, this is what I am." a voice called.
"A-a-a ghost!" Screamed one of the Riders, "Keep quiet!" Barked The Jagged Rider.
So dark and terryfing looked the surrounding trees, with this center stage of strainge light burning as a dying ember upon the ground. Swaying in wind.
"It burns in the rain, cursed magics!" Shouted the furious Jagged Rider.
The men must have been wishing for the sun's rays to shine on them by now, to wash away this illusion and once again make sense of their world.
The light burning, and swaying, seems to get taller. It's shape starts to change into something more.. human?
"Who seeks the king? Who seeks the truth? Who seeks justice? And who cares not for the affairs of men?" echoed the voice.
The Riders say nothing at first. One speaks "I seek the King, for he has the answers I seek."
Another Rider shouts "I seek justice! For even now my lands burn! My people die!" with a possessed gaze upon his face.
"What of you?" The voice speaks, it's form turned to face the Jagged Rider. "What is it you seek?"
"Back demon! I refuse ye questions!" The Jagged Rider snaps back.
A foul hiss is heard. The horses startled by the sound are quickly soothed by their riders "woooaaah! now! Easy there!" Shout the men in reply.
"Answer me.. Rider! What issss it you seek!"
The Jagged Rider draws his blade, as it glistens in the unearthly light.
"To arms! Slay this demon! Do not succumb to its tricks! Fight for we must make for Ravenholdt!"
"He speaks the truth! We break our oaths for no one! No man! Woman! Child! Beast! Or Devil! Will stop us!"
The other riders draw their blades as well.
They shout at the light. "Come take us if you can devil!" Galloping towards the creature in a rage. The Jagged Rider following them at the rear.
"So be it, men of the king. You have made your choice." Whispers the figure.
As the first of the riders desceneds upon his prey, a loud CRACK is heard, the sky rips open to let a bolt of thunder strike the ground before him.
"Aaaaarrgh!" The man shouts has he is thrown from his horse, his horse oblitterated into shards of light and what seems like.. sand? "Know pain!"
Snaps the voice in a hiss.
The other rider hats his advance toward the being, shocked into an unshakeable fear.
But the Jagged Rider, advances forward. Anxious to face his foe, he does not retreat.
"Do you feel you shall fair better? I wonder..." The figure hisses.
As the Jagged Rider gallops towards the creature, a sudden crack in the earth makes apparent a giant boulder.
A sudden wooosh sound is heard, and the Rider is nearly truck by the boulder but hangs from his saddle at last second.
"It shall not be so easy to slay me demon!" The Jagged Rider shouts in anger recovering himself.
The rider closes in on his kill. Leaping forth from his saddle with no regard for landing, striking with his blade at center mass of the being.
"Hississiissisisiss" A Laugh? The being echos as it dissapates. The Jagged Rider twirls onto the ground and finally stalls in the mud.
"Search for him, we've no time to waste." The Jagged Rider says in a stern voice, soaking wet, as he collects himself.
As the other Rider approaches the wounded man, he is startled by what he witnesses.
The man, once flesh and blood, is now.. something else. He know longer seems... human... But, he still breathes. "What is this" The rider ponders. "I-You.."
The wounded man speaks. "You..... you must... help...". "What is it!? What do you need?" The other rider replies.
As the other rider approaches closer, the wounded man suddenly jumps up and grabs him, "YOU MUST BECOME!" Before he could react, both him
and the rider leap into the Night Sky, unseen.
"What fresh hell is thi-!" The Jagged Rider is suddenly tossed aside into the air.
"AAAaaaarrgh!!" The Jagged Rider screams in agony.
"And they were never heard from again. The end! Now, don't you think it's time for you to be getting to bed little one?" an old man says with a sigh,
"Awwww! But grandpa how did the message reach Ravenholdt if the Riders were slain!! Tell us!" a runny nosed child says in a burst of energy,
"Yes! Tell us! Tell us!" whines a slightly smaller child, with a resemblance of the grandfather in his youth no doubt.
"Ohohohoho! Another time! If you want to grow up big and strong you must rest! Don't you remember what your parents told you?" he replies cheerfully.
"aaaawww!!" the children reply in unison. "Now! off to bed! With the both of ye! You know what happens if little boys and girls dont go to bed in time!"
As the children run off to their beds, the old mans stare outside the living room window. Gazing into the black void of the night. "No moon.."
The old man sighs, "it was dark then too." the old man touching his side as if in pain.
The old men heads to his room with a candle lit, he places it by his bedstand. And then sits. The old man gazes forth.
"Why didn't happen that way? It would have... been better. For everyone" He says to himself as in a trance. "It would have been.... better."
A FLASH!
Men ride in the night, reaching the walls of a large fortress. The noise of life bustling forth, even in the black.
"Hooooold!" Shouts a cloaked figure on the walls, "Be you a friend?!"
A black Rider holds out his hand, letting loose a clenched scroll to reveal some form of markings.
The cloaked figure gives a signal to his men at the gate, the large iron doors slowly creek open.
The Riders enter the mighty walls, they enter this bastion of humanity among the wildnerness "Guard." the Rider says in a stern voice.
"Yes, sire?" The young guard replies.
"Are we here? Did we make it?"
"Here? Sire? Wha-"
An Older man in blackened armor aproaches the group of Riders, "Yes, we've been expecting you. Gods willing, you've made it in time."
"Welcome. Welcome to Ravenholdt."
ACT I: END
