No other agency has to have this kind of budget. My wife works for a contractor who would be impacted by these cuts. So many people would be impacted by these cuts. First off when they start slashing budgets it's the vets who take the first round of hits. Even this news story pointed out cuts in health care. This year has already seen some painful cuts in tricare. My fathers co pay went from a couple hundred dollars to over a thousand. This would also be bad news for a country already upset with the jobs market as it would mean even more unemployed DACs and countless layoffs from contractors. Some of these companies have already started thinning the herd. Most of the IT folks have been told that next year they either won't have a job or will have to take large pay cuts. This
news is already starting to effect jobs as is.

That's because Panetta & his brass are #### over the little man first before he fuuuuuudges over the big man making the billions from the contracts.

Not to sound insensitive but it has to be done. The Pentagon budget HAS to come down, there's just no other way around it. We're running trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see & there seems to be strong evidence we're heading into another recession. Somebody has to get cut & we should push for keeping jobs while gutting the rich #### who have their fingers in the #### & screw you, the little man, before they take a cut in their pay.

U know, I'm a Kubrick fan & I do like that movie, but that is the most blatantly over-rated & over-referenced film in the history of cinema.

lol, like if we cut our military budget even as much as 50% total war will break out? Give me a break. Countries don't start major conflicts now because of nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. This is just ass holes in the MIC trying to scare up some job security.

maybe that's how he got his wife :smileyvery-happy:

I totally agree with this post. The Pentagon budget is 50% waste.

Rofl, i bet you can get most of that $500 billion by cutting out the 30 #### that suddenly appeared inbetween a grunt on the ground and the Secretary of Defense thanks to Rummy.

Really?

If you ask me, I'd tell tell you that title belongs to either "Scarface" or "Star Wars IV"

Well Star Wars is only quoted by nerds & Scarface's only quote is 'SAY ELLO' TO MUH LITTLE FREN.'

But good lord, every other smug pretentious little fuuuuuudge of a blogger or political wannabe will post a youtube link to Strangelove or quote the movie. Oh, & Strangelove was a fuuuuuudgein genius. But yeah, overrated.

War is the least efficient way to solve any problem.  Defense really just means preparing for war.  So, by funneling a bunch of cash into our Department of Defense (once properly known as the Department of War) we are allocating capital in the least efficent way possible.

In other words, yeah, the Pentagon/DoD/etc don't need to get as much money as they are getting.  And, they won't.  Nazi Germany doesn't exist anymore.. we defeated them 60+ years ago.
