My Dad asked for my laptop this morning at about 10:30 so I started it up only for it to start looping again (I'll explain what I mean if there's any new people present). When I went to Circuit City, I was told that the reason it decided to work was probably because I had it unplugged and that the power died down so I unplugged my laptop and then tried again. It started up so I got online, logged onto a few sites, and then...my browser disappeared. I only use one and just open different tabs so I know I didn't close it on accident as a pop up would have appeared asking if I wanted to close the whole browser or just that particular tab. I thought, okay, wierd...it'll come back though because it's not the first time something has disappeared only to reappear somewhere else in my toolbar. This time, however, it did not reappear. Instead, the Notepad I'd opened was the next to disappear. I tried checking for spyware but it froze. I finally got Ad-Aware off and tried to send an error report but I couldn't because it seemed to think I wasn't online when I know I was. I then tried to open another browser only for my laptop to freeze again. After about ten minutes, I decided to just shut my laptop off. I couldn't open my Start menu so I just held in the power button. Eventually, it shut down but a blue box popped up in the middle of the screen with this message:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status o
The system has been shut down.

On that note, usually, when System Restore fails to start up, I'm given the error code "51244". This time, however, I got "51220".

Side note: If I don't respond right away, it's because I'm battling with my laptop so...yeah...

Jeez, you and your computer issues...seems almost infinite, I'm not good enough at this to help much, but as a first step, supposing you can get online is to go to pandasofware.com and click on the activescan block in the lower left corner of the page and scan it, I really reccommend paying for removal if it finds anything. Since you don't have the original OS disk I sort of doubt the system is without damage at this point, and you've never reinstalled, and you have little recourse in terms of recovery...You really need monkpunk or someone really familiar with PCs to navigate any repair that can be done.

I know, the problems just never seem to stop. :smileysad:

I'll try that scan and see if anything turns up.

blue screen of death.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

i checked the cpu temp in BIOS. its normal.  it happens randomly not when i open a specific program. i'm not updrading operating systems. its not a faulty driver. i havn't recently installed any programs. i dont overclock.  this pc is reletively new so its not the motherboard.

Sometimes though, especially with the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error, even that is not enough. This is where you get hardcore with the troubleshooting. In the BIOS, load Fail-Safe defaults, disable the onboard modem, sound, and LAN (where applicable). Take out all the cards, with the exception of video, and run the machine for a while. If the machine stays stable, then start adding/re-enabling the devices one by one. Keep in mind that modern motherboards share IRQ's across PCI slots, so try not to put a sound card and a modem right next to each other. They don't seem to think that's funny every once and a while. Anyway, do this one by one until you start crashing again. Whatever you put in last is the culprit.

Also, many newer motherboards' northbridges are actively cooled. Almost always by a bushing fan. Bushing fans tend to bind after a while. Since this chip controls the data stream between the RAM, video, and CPU, I'd say it's pretty important. If it's overheating bad things are bound to happen.

I hope this helps some. That is a list of the steps that I go through when I run into this blasted problem. If only the error messages were more specific...

maybe this, I just googled it, not much of an attempt really.

I feel bad for me, too. My laptop restarted about 20 minutes ago for seemingly no reason. I was in the middle of running that scan when I went to get a bottle of water. I was gone for only two or three minutes so I'm not sure what occurred. Is restarting normal when running that scan? I'm not sure how far it got so I thought it may have finished and restarted or something. If not, I don't know what happened... I came back to find my laptop at the log on screen and just logged back on. It froze again, though, when I tried to connect to the internet so I had to turn it back off. Mind you, when I do this, I only just barely push the power button before that little blue box pops up asking if I want to log off, shut down, or restart which is weird...

I've actually had my laptop shut down several times. Once today and at least two other times in the past few weeks. A box pops up saying that my laptop is going to shut down and that I should save everything before it does. It counts down from 60 and then just goes off.

I feel bad laughing at your plight, but it's so dismal it's funny, sorry. No it shouldn't restart...you know you're probably better off buying panda antivirus and firewall 2007 from them...I hate this, I don't want to tell you to spend money, but Panda pretty much takes care of all of my problems, you're so  far down a dark well though I doubt that will be all you need...but you need to reliably get rid of spyware and viruses, which panda will do. You need to eliminate that variable so it can be troubleshooted (troubleshot?). Make sure you buy it the next time you need antivirus/firewall software instead of reupping whatever you're using now, seriously it's better, the only other company that is close is Trend Micro, but I've never tried that so I can't testify to it's usefulness....I seriously think your system is so corrupt and there's some system damage. Try turning off any bells and whistles, like your screensavers, try to put all your settings back to default values, boot to safe mode and try that scan again and see if it turns up anything. You can buy a subscription to activescan for I think 27 dollars, and their antivirus and firewall is like 50 for a year's updates. Actually you can buy antivirus and firewall for a shorter period and it will cost less, also one purchase will cover up to three PCs, so you could share it with your father and mother or something...Try it for free here, download it, (use save not run) burn the installer to a disk, and try it out.

Woah, your back! ...with a flood of problems. :smileyvery-happy:

Does your automatic shutdown problem look like this?
[Click]
If it does, I may have a way to stop it from doing that.

As for stuff just disappearing, got no clue to where they went.

For your .Net account problem, I would try:
- Go to task manager [Ctrl+Alt+Del]
- Right Click on what ever says something about ".Net"
- Click "Go To Process"
- Right click the highlighted process
- Press delete
- Murder it [End Process]

That sounds a lot like what happened to my laptop about four months ago. It turned out to be faulty RAM. I already posted the solution here.

Ok, this is worth a try:
- Open any folder

- Click "Tools" button from the top

- Click "Folder Options"

- Click "View"

- Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

- Click OK

- Click the "Start" button at the bottom left

- Click "Run"

- Type "notepad"

- Copy & paste this to notepad:
shutdown -a
exit

- Save As Cancel.bat on the desktop

You should now see a new file on your desktop called "Cancel.bat" that looks like a folder with a yellow gear in it.

So, when you see that auto shutdown thing again, run that cancel.bat

No, I don't remember reading that. I'm not sure I understand though...

It takes some messing with the command prompt, but make sure that the .iso file it provides is in the folder where cdburn**bleep** is, if you're making a bootable CD.

What, exactly, am I doing? :smileyvery-happy:
