I've had IE7 on the computer for a while, I don't think that's it...here's an approximation of the image link, the red portion being the wallpaper. It's XP home.

I don't see a red portion. It's a black rectangle and a squiggly line.

There is a thread floating around here somewhere that tells you how you can uninstall IE7 (but it replaces it with IE6). Try that.

If that doesn't work, see if it does it in safe mode.

No, that's where you can still see the wallpaper, but the black block is like it shows in the picture.

The black rectangle looks to be about the size of a command prompt. Did you try safe mode yet?

The squiggly line looks like you drew it on there with Paint because it goes over the black part on the long side.

Wait, does it only happen if you leave your computer alone for a while?

It was made with paint :smileytongue::smileyvery-happy:. Yeah the computer will have to have been on for about 8 hours.

Do you have a custom screensaver, or is it one that came with Windows?

Do me a favor; right now, set the screensaver to come on after 1 minute, and let it run for a bit, and tell me if it does it.

If it does, it could be a video card driver/hardware problem.

I think we have a winner.

Did you recently install this card? If you did, how old is your computer?

Do you play any games that require extensive 3D rendering? If you do, try playing one and see if it does it then.

The card is fairly new, about two months old, the computer is about 5 months old...I play a bunch of demanding games and I've never seen it do that.

Then it might just be a bug in the screensaver. Try one that was built into Windows, and see if it does it.

EDIT: I've had problems with nVidia screensavers myself on other computers. They never made the system crash, but they acted strangely (when I could get them to work).

The screensaver is a demo, so I wouldn't doubt it, I'll leave it on overnight.

Are you leaving it on the nVidia one or one from Windows?

It's been running for 14 hours, it will usually crash after 4-6 hours, so you may have hit the nail on the head.
