My first gut reaction was to laugh, then I saw the pics & realized this #### is real. And it makes me wonder if "democracy" will really change these ppl. The religious fanatics are as alive as ever.

Thought the headline was fake. It is the DM....

The religious POLICE did this....the Iraqi govt. did this to their own ppl, these aren't criminals doing this to these kids, the govt did it to themselves. I thought it was a spoof headline but its real.

It...shouldn't matter. Laughing at the loss of life, even figuratively, because of religious persecution is disgusting...

And how would he even think it's a spoof? I mean, The Daily Mail is a tabloid newspaper and I don't exactly consider it reputable, but it doesn't make spoofs.....at least not to my knowledge.

50 years ago Americans were lynching black people solely because of the color of their skin (it still occasionally happens but not on the same scale or with the same acceptance). We had had democracy for over 150 years at that point. Different forms of government aren't to blame, people are. The fact that this even made news is noteworthy of change in their country.

I don't hate the religious, that's just silly. I don't even hate religion. But I am growing to be against it, in a more direct manner. Religion legitimizes and positively sanctions acts like this. It isn't the only cause, but it is a major one.

But really, religion is just a symptom of a larger problem.

I think what's more important is that the head cleric actually condemned the killings. They have a long way to go, but it sounds to me that they do take extremism seriously.
