The firing comes after months of open hostility by Olbermann toward his own network for reasons that nobody could ever quite figure out which came to a head when Olbermann refused to anchor election night coverage for the network in January. Not just fired, but fired and replaced by a guy who had to resign in disgrace and whose CNN show was canceled after less than six months? That’s gotta hurt.
And once again it isnt his fault and once again he is going to court.
"Editorially, Countdown had never been better. But for more than a year I have been imploring Al Gore and Joel Hyatt to resolve our issues internally, while I’ve been not publicizing my complaints, and keeping the show alive for the sake of its loyal viewers and even more loyal staff. Nevertheless, Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt, instead of abiding by their promises and obligations and investing in a quality news program, finally thought it was more economical to try to get out of my contract. It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current’s statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently. To understand Mr. Hyatt’s “values of respect, openness, collegiality and loyalty,” I encourage you to read of a previous occasion Mr. Hyatt found himself in court for having unjustly fired an employee. That employee’s name was Clarence B. Cain."

Not only that but it was on CurrentTV, which gets less ratings than mall security videos.
Olbermann was getting crazier as time went on. Sometime after his father died he really began to lose touch with reality. Hopefully with more free time he can get the help he needs.

I can think of few people more deserving.
Now, if only this happened to the rest of the pundit brigade.

That ####. He was the funniest guy on MSNBC. I didn't really watch his newer show, as I didn't get the channel. I'm sure somebody will hire him. He's worth too much money. I imagine MSNBC might take him back in a few yrs after their ratings peter off a bit.
His was my favorite show on that network & Maddow isn't quite the best replacement.

He's an obnoxious, smug, divisive, self-absorbed idiot. Basically the left's O'Reilly except maybe even worse because he made his career as a sportscaster, one of the lowest lifeforms in journalism.

DU is saying both that Olbermann wasn't showing up for work & he claims they let him go 'to save money.':

Sounds like he got tired of low-ratings & they, in a cost-cutting move decided to let him go. He'll get picked up somewhere else soon, hes worth too much.

I lul'ed @ the sportscaster comment. As for the rest, he was obnoxious on purpose, because the right has moved away from a sane coalition of anti-war to cautious-about-war working class religious-right/fiscal moderate bunch into a rabid frothing-at-the-mouth tea party anarchist-capitalist band of libertarian kooks and neocon nutbags.
Such ppl have to be treated as they are, idiots:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO0kyYvqldc
And of all the MSNBC hosts -- Olbermann drilled the Bush-McCain scum as they should have been drilled.
His only drawdown seems to be his relationship with his boss(es) -- he's always trying to run his own show & corporations in the last decade have been very very hands-on & control-freaks. Somebody as independent as he is doesn't mold well with that kinda environment.

He has always struck me as a pretty big douchebag, I'm kind of surprised Al Gore ever had anything to do with him. I don't agree with answering the belligerent loudmouth punditry of the right with more belligerent loudmouth punditry and that seemed to be his whole purpose. I guess I can understand why people think they have to do that or they'll lose the votes of those easily swayed by simplistic, harsh, emotionally charged rhetoric but I still don't like it no sir.

Master-Debater131 thinks TV ratings are important to journalism.

Wow, this is shocking.
I had no idea Current TV still existed.

You kind of missed out. Olbermann's MSNBC show around 2003-2005-ish was actually pretty innovative. It was kind of like "Sportscenter", but at some point, he started doing hardcore punditry and then I couldn't watch it anymore.

People don't remember the Current TV journalists imprisoned in North Korea? And Bill Clinton going to North Korea to negotiate their release?
That wasn't that long ago.

The man has an ego that is unmatched by anyone. He really is unhirable at this point. What are the odds he does a Beck and tried to do his own thing while charging a huge amount for nightly podcasts?
