Are you pants on head retarded? Where did I say anything about retaliation for 9/11 being wrong? Staying out of a sovereign nation's affairs when you have nothing to gain from interfering is not tantamount to appeasement. This is not Europe circa 1939 no matter how much you like to pretend it is.

Its not that we don't consider the consequences of action, what you should consider is that refusing to act is also a decision and it has equally important consequences.
Also, you do realize its not 2004 anymore and that the war in Iraq is over... right? I get the feeling you and a few other people don't realize its 2012 and we aren't considering occupying any countries unilaterally with ground troops.
Purely humanitarian aid is one thing, supplying arms to rebels is another. If we wind up caving in to NATO and giving the Syrian resistance air support then fine, airdrop some laser rangefinders because once we take our A-10s and F-16's home those will be little more than toys.
You're not looking at the long term game here, I don't care about that f--k al-Assad. Aiding Syria will inflame tensions with Iran further, and if we continue on that path give it time--you will get your bloody ground war and worse.
