ahh, I see. you got confused on the dictation. read "the law says that the candidate can have no influence over these superpacs but they(the superpacs) can influence donations to the candidate". 

it works without the () but, thats for you to figure out I guess. go ahead and diagram the sentence. I don't understand how you can dictate it differently unless you where trying to do what you are doing.

the only way it would work otherwise is if I said the candidate was part of the superpac, which I made perfectly clear in that paragraph (and sentence) that they are no.
