“Women used to rely on men, but we don’t need to anymore,” said Teresa Fragoso, 25, a single mother in Lorain. “We support ourselves. We support our kids.”

This has serious sociological implications. Among them:
---
The shift is affecting children’s lives. Researchers have consistently found that children born outside marriage face elevated risks of falling into poverty, failing in school or suffering emotional and behavioral problems.
(....)
Among men with some college but no degrees, earnings have fallen 8 percent in the past 30 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while the earnings of their female counterparts have risen by 8 percent.
“Women used to rely on men, but we don’t need to anymore,” said Teresa Fragoso, 25, a single mother in Lorain. “We support ourselves. We support our kids.”
---
So if their earnings have risen the exact same proportion as ours has fallen & if they don't 'need to (rely on men) anymore.'
And if "we support ourselves. We support our kids."
Then what in the fuuuuuudge do we need to pay child support for any more?
Or maybe....the system is rigged?

if society would take it's head out of it's ass this would not be a worrisome trend at all
but instead you have god fearing bigots who come down on anyone different than them
fuuuuuudge those people, seriously. I'm sick and god #### tired of bigot's and hypocrytes. the human race would be awesome if 3/4ths of the people on the earth would just not be

See that's the #### I'm talking about & why I refuse to have any children, at least in this country.
Ok, so I can get married. Or just have a kid.
And then some strange guy can sleep with my woman. In my bed. In my house. While eating my #### food. While watching my #### tv. While raising my #### kid. WHILE I #### FOOT THE BILL AND PAY FOR IT.
I mean no offense to anybody but unless you're married or in a REALLY commited relationship & you are dead-to-rights POSITIVE she's the one & you WILL be together @ least the vast majority of your adult lives & for the duration of your kid's raising period -- then you are an absolute stupid #### to be having kids a) in this economy & b) in the situation you described above.
He sleeps with your woman. And drinks beer & eats food that YOU PAY FOR. That you work for. And you have to shut up & just take it?
Hey oi oi oi -- FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THAT HOMEY FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THAT.
And then they have those cases where if the kid thinks you are the father & if you find out ten years down the road that its NOT your flesh & blood & that your woman cheated on you & the kid isn't biologically yours.
And then the judge STILL makes you pay the tab because either it'll be 'detrimental' to the child if you leave or the father's a deadbeat, or the mother doesn't even know who the father is -- crap like that. Not my child -- not my problem. You have to subsidize tikes who aren't even yours & pay for a man to sleep with your woman in your house & you foot the bill. And not to one-sided there ARE cases of male-deadbeats who do the same thing & milk their female baby-mamas & sleep with other woman while she slugs it out @ work.:

As they say -- ONLY IN AMERICA.
I REALLY TRULY do not think this country will last another 30 or 40 years...or if it does, we'll be like Honduras or Burma.

What's tragic & heartbreaking to me is this from the original article:
---
Large racial differences remain: 73 percent of black children are born outside marriage, compared with 53 percent of Latinos and 29 percent of whites. And educational differences are growing. About 92 percent of college-educated women are married when they give birth, compared with 62 percent of women with some post-secondary schooling and 43 percent of women with a high school diploma or less, according to Child Trends
---
So in other words, in rolling order: 2/3 of black kids are born out of wedlock. Half of hispanic/latino kids are born out of wedlock. A third of white kids are born out of wedlock. And I betcha the white portion of that is growing the fastest given the ppl I know....
Given that most babies being born are now non-white:
...we're breeding a generation of fatherless children. Sly & a few others have pointed out that high-expectations of black men as fathers have hurt their social family unit. Racism in discrimination explains a lot as well.
A few links from the article, kinda scary when you realize these are gonna be the majority in 30 or 40 years:

That's not good. But hey, so long as people get to party and fuuuuuudge and do whatever they want, that's all that matters right? Getting married is like so old fashioned!

Lol, clearly for a black male to even bother to stay around and father their children is a high expectation, according to those statistics. i wonder how white people are to blame for this, I'm sure we force black promiscuity and irresponsibility with our power structure or some nonsense.

The study was done by Child Trends, a non-partisan organization.
Besides, what's so hard to believe about the fact that kids who come from single-parent homes are at greater risk?

he problem is much more broad than what the scope of the *study* there are SO many other factors and variables that weigh on this that have absolutely nothing to do with even being married.
the study is pretty pointless because it covers none of those issues and just focuses on one thing

I hear you on that. But it wasn't my intention to paint simply being married as a panacea to well-raised children.
But, the odds are better if there are two parents.

ha
im a statistic!!!
and not only do we not need to rely on men anymore .. we dont want to... they are like grown children nowadays that need to be mothered.. why have two kids when you can have one??
also, men still have to pay child support because its STILL THEIR KID as well
men will never be able to spawn a child and not have to worry about payng for it *shrug*
but then a lot of women are going to #### banks nowadays so i guess child support is not always a given ...
