Yeah you totally failed to grasp my point... an animal cycle of reproduction meaning you have a kid every time you have sex because you aren't allowed to use any means of contraception at all.

Which is the norm in most third world countries and also the main cause of poverty in the world. Families or single mothers with half a dozen kids will never have the means to advance economically. That much I shouldn't even have to explain.

Pills and gadgets are not 100% effective at all times.  That's why.  You can substantially minimize the risk of pregnancy or STD during sex, while it never amounts to 100%

Simply refraining from sex, showing a little bit of genuine self discipline works every time, no exceptions.

You can't subsititute for self discipline with pills or gadgets.  As long as people continue to isnsist upon the notion that sex is unavoidable and should be done at will whenever the mood strikes, there will be STD's and unwanted pregnacies.  Condoms can slip or break, pills could have duds in the batch and nobody has ever come up with a 100% effective gadget.  Even if a failure rate of just one millionth of a percent could be achieved, you're still playing that STD/pregnancy slot machine.  The only true and real method of avoidance is never to pull that handle to begin with.

Contraception leads people into a false sense of security in thinking that it's 100% protection while most sane people know that the 100% can never be acheived.  Murphy's law applies directly to all methods of artificial contraception and that's why there are so many unwanted pregnancies and STD transmissions.

Go ahead, show me any contraception angle that's proven time and time again to be 100% effective at all times.

Yes, none of them are 100%. But the failure rate for many, especially ones that require a prescription, have a failure rate of less than 1%, many going as low as .1% to .05%. That's about as effective as a medicine can get. That means it might fail about once every 1000 times. Those are some good odds.

The thread was about the morality of using contraception. Saying that a medicine shouldn't be used because it isn't 100% effective is nonsense. It is nonsense because all medicines will fail, in certain circumstances. Nothing is 100% thanks to little differences in our physiology.

Now, if you are content with a life of austerity, that's fine. My wife and I would like to maintain a healthy sex life and not have another child. Contraception helps with that. Contraception exists so that people can have sex and decide when to have a child. STD's are another topic unrelated to the issue of the morality of contraception. Unless you think that all sex outside of procreation is bad, then there's no reason not to use a contraception if a couple doesn't want to get pregnant. If you think that sex is only morally justifiable in the pursuit of procreation... you are a sad, sad person.
