THE RACING LIFE 2012
A fantasy competition focused on the world of driving in circles, ovals, and other enclosed shapes.
Our season will start on 26 February with NASCAR's Daytona 500 and will focus on picking drivers mainly from the NASCAR Sprint Cup series but also from two other popular racing series: IRL (aka as that other gay name, the Izod IndyCar Series) and Formula 1.
This thread is for your picks and general discussion about the motorsports. I'll also be providing content on our new Facebook page. Just search for the "asmb sports 5" group.
The defending 2-time champion is iowacubsfan (@iowacubssoxfan) and will fight hard to defend his crown from you savages.

THE RACING LIFE 2012 RULES
NASCAR
3 drivers per race - ALL DRIVERS COUNT NO MULLIGANS
4 drivers for select races with point multipliers
Multiple people can select the same driver. There will be no back-to-back restrictions this year, provided people don't pick the same driver for the first 20 races. Be different. 
IRL & F1
1 driver per race - 1ST COME 1ST SERVED
3 drivers per race for Super Racing Sunday (GP of Monaco and Indianapolis 500)
To promote this rule, I will be opening races up around 8am ET the Monday before the race. You are NOT allowed to duplicate a driver that someone else picked. To make it fair, I'll probably pick my IRL/F1 drivers no sooner than Tuesday evenings.
YOUR FANTASY RACE TEAM
Pick 3 NASCAR drivers and 1 IRL driver before the Daytona 500
These drivers (which can also be doubled up on for your weekly picks) will earn you points EVERY week based on their weekly finishes and end of year point standings finishes.
INDIVIDUAL RACE POINTS
Driver finishes 1st - +200
Driver finishes 2nd - +150
Driver finishes 3rd - +125
Driver finishes 4th - +100
Driver finishes 5th - +80
Driver finishes 6th-20th - +5 for every position finish above 21st
Leads at least 1 lap - +5
Leads the most laps - +5 on top of the above bonus, total +10
Receiving a penalty - -5 each
ALTERED THIS YEAR - Being the reason for a caution, either mechanical OR physical - -5 each
NEW THIS YEAR - Driver leads at halfway - +25
NEW THIS YEAR - TOTAL DOMINATION BONUS - Leads at least 70% of the laps AND wins the race - +500, all penalties and lap bonuses voided out.
NEW THIS YEAR - TOTAL FAILURE PENALTY - Finishes in 40th or worse - -25 pts, all lap bonuses voided out but NOT penalties
NEW THIS YEAR - Your score CAN go below zero for an individual driver.
SEASON TEAM POINTS
YOUR driver qualifies in the pole position - +30
YOUR driver finishes 1st - +100
YOUR driver finishes 2nd - +50
YOUR driver finishes 3rd - +25
YOUR driver finishes Top 10 (NASCAR DRIVERS ONLY) - +5
YOUR driver leads the most laps - +10
YOUR driver fails to finish the race - -20
YOUR driver makes the Chase (NASCAR DRIVERS ONLY) - +300
All 3 of YOUR drivers make the Chase - +300
YOUR driver finishes 1st in points - +1000
YOUR driver finishes 2nd in points - +700
YOUR driver finishes 3rd in points - +500
YOUR driver finishes 4th in points - +250
YOUR driver finishes 5th in points - +100
Player with best AVERAGE point position among ALL drivers - +1000
