Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to learn German, and immigrate to Germany, if only temporarily. Does anyone here have a clue on where to start? Do they let any honest people in, or do you have to be extraordinarily gifted before immigration even notices you? I understand the labour and trade unions have very strong presences in all the provinces.

I'd also like to know how I can qualify for their universities. I pay my taxes here, yet I'm supposed to pay hundreds of thousands for my education, which I already contributed to in taxes???

Ask asternus as I think he lived there for a time if you wanna go study there or work. He probably knows how to get a visa. I imagine if you wanna formally immigrate you either have to have a parent or parents with citizenship like I do or you better have some kind of technical training. Germany like most of Europe isn't like the US. They don't just accept any unskilled immigrant without a sponsor. So if you have like a degree in a science field or some kind of medical or engineering discipline they'd take that over say, an unemployed dishwasher or cook or something.

Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, those kinds of places all have skills-based immigration policies. You have a college or graduate degree -- you'll have a better chance of being able to move. You may also be able to move to learn how to be a union craftsman. Dunno. I'd go on their embassy or consulate's webpage & do research. I imagine they have immigration criteria listed on the website.

U wanna learn the language? Try Rosetta Stone or like programs. Or take courses @ your local junior college/university.

Talk to asternus about going to uni there. I know he went to school there for a time. He can tell you all the necessary visa & crap like that you have to get.

Basically, what we're saying is, Europe is a sh*t hole for anyone without any real trade skills. For their own, and especially for any immigrants, AND ESPECIALLY for an American.

The only place thats ok, somewhat, is england. They view you as a tarded cousin over there. But less beatings, and WAAAAY less sick sex slave crap that more of eastern europe suffers from.

Also, WAAAY less mafia. But they have their own type of mafia, don't be fooled. And their own brand of sickos.

So really? You're better off in the U.S. dealing with the hellhole you know. Stand a better chance here.

Getting into a master's program at a German university is probably your best bet, as there are quite a few taught in English. From there you can work a limited amount and then build the contacts necessary to get a full work visa, even if you don't complete the degree. The catch is that you have to provide proof of money sufficient enough to cover your stay as a student (about €8,000 per year) Otherwise, the standard time you can be in the country as a tourist is 90 days.

I lived in Frankfurt am Main for a year as a grad student, so I should be able to answer quite a few of your questions.

I don't have any illusions about "running away" from the economic fallout. From what I've been hearing, Europe is again falling under neoconservative influences. Even Germany's Chancellor Merkel declared the "diversity experiment," i.e. Muslims immigrating to Germany, has "failed." o.o

But I wonder what life would be like if I paid more into taxes. Would I be gaining more back? Do most Germans who make my salary wish they could retain more of it?

What were his reasons in stating why the experiment failed, exactly? Have a link? I'm just curious.

And I'm not sure, it's probably as bad in Germany as it is here.
