Texas doesn't think any federal laws apply to them . . . . .

For what it's worth, I live in Texas, and I really don't think the law applies to me. Yaaaaay Texas!
In other news, the baby boomers here will be raptured soon. Which could be.....just....super for everybody. 0_o

I would think kids crawling around on the ground would pose a trip hazard.
Maybe Washington should propose a study group to look into the matter.

Sometimes I do wonder about why these authoritarian idiots decide they want to be teachers. The brief moments of absolute control can't possibly be rewarding enough to put up with all the crap the rest of the time, since they clearly hate their students.

For some reason, my first thought after reading the headline was of [generic movie politician villian guy] saying "But come on, guys; it's a choking hazard."

As long as a school provides an aid for the girl to get around, I doubt they're violating any laws. It's not like they're going to make her crawl to class, they will give her a wheelchair.
What gives me pause about this story: supposedly the girl fell in the parking lot when her walker collapsed. Some are claiming the mother was there at the time. The mother didn't deny it happened - she only asked if the director saw it as if him not seeing it means it never happened. If this is true, I'm with the director when he asked her why she isn't more concerned. Her lack of shock about it would mean either this isn't the first time it happened, or she's truly not worried. This is not the same as a kid falling down on a playground and scraping their knee. Those kids can get back up. This girl depends on the walker to get around, so if it collapses underneath her and she falls, she won't be able to get up and walk it off as easily as her peers. She might be able to get up at all. From the schools's perspective, this is a hazard to the girl AND a liability issue to the school if - god forbid - there's not an adult immediately on hand to help the girl up the next time her walker collapses.
I didn't hear the director say she couldn't use a walker, only that she couldn't use HER walker - possibly meaning that specific one. If that's so, then why not solve the situation quickly and easily by buying a sturdier walker?
