the thing is a lot of people seem to be turning this into a case of Stop Sharia Law From Taking Over America, and there's a pecular convenience of timing, as the OP article says;
The Washington Post recently reported on an appeals court decision to maintain an injunction to stop the implementation of an amendment to the Oklahoma state constitution that bans the use of Sharia law in state courts. The excuse the court gave was that there was no documented case of Sharia law being invoked in an American court. Judge Martin would seem to have provided that example, which should provide fodder for the argument as the case goes through the federal courts.
Even the victim of the attack seems to think that the attack (note: rather than the judge's ruling), is proof that
Sharia law is taking over America. (and judging by that video's content and his commentary below, I'm personally inclined to agree that the guy is an idiot.)
Watching the video, there does certainly seem to be some scuffle. At least some community service is in order or something. As far as I can tell the judge is being completely unconstitutional, and here is the real point.
I'm worried that people are going to look at this and confirm their already-present bias against muslims, allowing them to push forward anti-sharia bills when those sorts of laws are already covered by the constitution's first ammendment, and serve no purpose other than to single out muslims. I'm worried that an instance of legitimate religious foolishness will result in overkill. The judge should resign, the case should be appealed, and the first ammedment of the constitution should be enforced: but the sh!tstorm should end there.
