BLEACH Character Guide

Bleach has a lot of characters and it can be quite confusing at first. In the general discussion thread there have already been questions about the characters. I hope that this thread will provide answers. Note that this is a No Spoiler thread. After each episode I will try to add information about any new characters that have appeared and will add to information already presented if necessary. I’m not a Bleach expert so if anyone would like to help with screen caps or information I would appreciate it. Please make sure that anything you provide has already aired. When your favorite character appears feel free to comment but be careful about spoilers. For instance, I didn’t like one of the characters the first time they appear but ended up liking them a lot later. It would be a spoiler for me to say even that much because it gives first timers added information that is not currently available to them and can change their thoughts and theories.

I'm going to take much of my information from the FAQ threads, especially in the beginning.

I'm taking almost all of this early information from the Bleach FAQ v1 thread.  Thanks fool_on_the_hill.

Ichigo Kurosaki D.O.B. July 15th Your typical high school freshman with an attitude, Ichigo's main worries in life include getting home from school at precisely 7 PM and the hordes of ghosts that follow him. For whatever reason, the denizens of the afterlife are attracted to Ichigo's presence. For Ichigo it's a bit of a pain, but he's been able to see spirits ever since he could remember so he's used to it. And despite the way he looks, Ichigo's actually a nice guy; but he does like to keep up the image others have of him as a tough guy. The oldest child in his family, he's protective of his younger sisters, Yuzu and Karin, and a loyal friend. When it comes to Soul Reaping, what Ichigo lacks in experience, he more than makes up for with determination and brute strength. Oh, and that's his natural hair color.

Rukia Kuchiki D.O.B. January 14th The Soul Reaper who lends her powers to Ichigo, Rukia did not predict that Ichigo would completely take away all of her spiritual power. Serious-minded, cunning, and with a flair for the artistic (though her taste is questionable) Rukia is Ichigo's "yin" to his "yang". As a Soul Reaper, her main duty was as guardian/defender of Karakura – Ichigo's hometown. Tops in all her classes during her Soul Reaper Academy days, Rukia is very knowledgable with kidô and the laws of the Soul Society. If you look into her eyes she seems incredibly sad, but Rukia keeps her worries to herself; she's very much the professional. After Ichigo becomes her substitue, Rukia is always by his side, helping our young hero with his Soul Reaping.

Isshin Kurosaki D.O.B. December 10 Ichigo's goofy and slightly strange father, Isshin is the source of many laughs in the beginning of the series. Constantly trying to beat up his son, Isshin and Ichigo's relationship is...different to say the least. His immature personality tends to alientate him from his children, as he would like nothing more than to get closer to them. The local doctor who runs the Kurosaki Clinic, he can do anything except major surgery. He is the only member of the Kurosaki household that can't sense spirits.

Karin Kurosaki D.O.B. May 6th Fraternal twin

Karin is one of Ichigo's younger twin sisters.  She's athletic and energetic preferring soccer to housework.  Karin is cynical and sarcastic saying that she doesn't believe in ghosts, even though she can see them.

Yuzu

D.O.B. May 6th Fraternal twin

Yuzu is Ichigo's other younger twin sister.  Yuzu has taken on the household duties and always cooks the family's meals. She can sense the presence of ghosts but is unable to see them.

I wanted to make a guide too...b/c the further you go in Bleach...the more characters there are...and I was getting confused at first...but now I know just about all the names ...and I made a little frame show for them...but as you see, I'll keep it in my sig b/c of spoilerage ! The guides ppl provide will be useful in the future

Yes, it is in the FAQ.  No worries.  I was just trying to pull out something that can be frustrating as the number of characters mounts and provide a quick place to reference.  If it's not useful it'll die quietly or the mods will delete it.

 I can see how this would be useful to a lot of people. After all, later on, tons of new characters will come and people will want and need a quick place to look them up, so this thread actually does serve a good purpose

New Characters introduced in episode 2

Orihime Inoue  D.O.B. September 3 Daydreams a lot Lost brother 3 years ago. Status of parents unknown. Supported by relatives. One of Ichigo's classmates, Orihime is a very gentle girl with a crazy imagination and an even crazier diet. Always with her head in the clouds, she sometimes fantasizes about Ichigo. Does she have a crush on him? Maybe, though she is a little bit intimidated by Ichigo's constant scowl. Outgoing and sweet, you'd never know that she's experienced terrible loss and sadness. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she has a run-in with Ichigo's Soul Reaper form.

Tatsuki Arisawa  D.O.B. July 17 Karate team, joined as black belt (2nd degree) Worries that her name in Kanji isn't cute, so she makes a point to write in Hiragana. Best friends with Orihime Inoue, Tatsuki is a no non-sense girl with an aggressive temper. Yet behind that tough exterior is a deeply loyal and caring individual with a strong sense of justice. Tatsuki has known Ichigo since they were four years-old and is probably the one person who knows him best outside of his family.

Orihime's Brother

In this episode of the anime Ichigo calls him Sota but Orihime calls him Kakei in the manga.  He was 15 years old when Orihime was born.  She was more of a daughter than a sister to him and he was her caretaker until his death.

These high school friends of Ichigo were just introduced in the 2nd episode:

Yasutora "Chad" Sado  D.O.B. April 7 Tattoo of winged heart with snake wrapped around on left shoulder. The words "Amore e Morte" ("Love and Death" on a ribbon above snake) Family structure unknown Gentle giant: These two words best describe Chad. Ichigo's closest friend since middle school, Chad is very large and very strong for his age. Kind and loyal, he does not go looking for trouble, but because of his demeanor, it always seems to find him. Raised in Japan, but of Mexican descent, Chad sticks out like his orange-haired friend, though he is pretty quiet. Along with Orihime, Chad's life changes (for better or worse) when he has a close encounter with a malevolent spirit known as a Hollow.

Keigo Asano Keigo is the outgoing and silly classmate of Ichigo. Loud, obnoxious, and annoying but with good intentions; Keigo always wants to be in on the party. Consequently, he is always depressed whenever Ichigo takes off on his own. Keigo is your typical teenager who enjoys all the cliché teenage activities.

Mizuiro Kojima Keigo's friend from middle school, he can often be found hanging around his more vocal companion. Despite his innocent looks, he is a veteran womanizer with a preference for older women. This aspect irritates the hell out of Keigo. Mizuiro is distant from his mother.

His name is Sora actually and is porobably a reference to mangaka Sora Inoue. Kakei is a VIZ thing in the manga (as his name is never actually said in the actual story. It only comes up in a character poll and the official manga databook.)

Queen - Thanks for the information about Orihime's brother.  I was a little confused about that.  Somewhere I read that they didn't actually say his name anywhere in the anime so I was surprised to hear Ichigo give him a name in last night's episode.
