Together with Yoruichi, Ichigo and his friends make it through to the Soul Society. They land in the Rukon District, a town on the outskirts of the Seireitei (where the Soul Reapers live). Just outside the Seireitei, they encounter an enormous giant named Jidanbo who guards the Hakuto Gate, one of four entrances that lead into the Seireitei Gate. |

Jidanbo succumbs to defeat and opens the Hakuto Gate, where Gin Ichimaru, the captain of Squad 3, waits on the other side. |

With the gates closed, Ichigo and his friends must find another way into the Seireitei and save Rukia. They follow a map given to them by an elder of the Rukon District and arrive at the absurd home of the even more absurd Kukaku Shiba. |

Ichigo and his friends learn that Kukaku’s plan is to shoot them into the Seireitei via her very own creation, the Flower Crane Cannon. In order for the cannon to work, each of them must learn to concentrate and control their spirit energy. |
