Hello, welcome to the thread.  Everyone is welcome and I'll try my best to keep the spoilers and hints out of the thread but I can't promise it'll be perfect.  Glad to have you here.  Hope you enjoy the show.  :smileyhappy:

Hey guys -- complete Bleach newbie here.  Know something about the storyline, a little, but otherwise it's all new to me.

All of the VAs were good choices -- though being a bigoted gaijin cowboy with no knowledge of Japanese, Michelle Ruff's incorrect pronunciation of "Rukia" bugs me slightly.  Funny how Kate Higgins does so many "attitude" roles these days.

As first episodes go this was really fun.  You can only pack so much into 20 or so minutes, and they did the job well.

Some questions for later:

--Wonder how they address Rukia's rather serious chomp injury by next ep.  I'm guessing she heals fairly quickly, even without most of her power.

--How powerful is Rukia, really?  She seems plenty badass, but Shinigami Ichigo has a sword 5x bigger.  Hm.  Maybe it's a grace/experience vs. raw power thing.  Still -- where'd Ichigo learn to wield a huge-#$$ sword as well as he did?  From Dad??  XD

--And yet another question of power for later (I know, it's not DBZ, but I can't help it!) -- the power transfer was supposed to be temporary, but it's sure not looking that way right now.  How's Rukia supposed to get it back?

Can't wait for next week!

Message Edited by Mav on 09-12-2006 03:23 AM

Those are all really good questions.  I think Fullmetal Megadeus answered pretty well.  Another question might be; is the size of the sword indicative of power?  It's probably a safe assumption and is implied I think but I don't remember Rukia actually saying that was the case.  I agree that this is a really good first episode.  The mix of comedy and drama is just right and there are enough questions to make you want to come back next week for more.

When I first read it, that was a question that never crossed my mind. I just thought it was due to something...I don't remember what, though. I just thought "Whoa, sword! HAWT!"

After reading your post on the manga and the differences I started reading the manga again.  I wonder why the anime creators decided to switch Karin and Yuzu in the attack by the hollow.  Karin is pretty cynical about ghosts so I rather like the change.

For some reason anime studios are less strict on adapting a manga to the anime in the beginning than later on. I guess they do whatever they think is neccessary to attract viewers, or maybe they were thinking the same way you are.

As long as the manga follows the anime as closely as that I don't have a problem with it.  As soon as it starts to separate I'd rather not spoil the manga for anyone.

Oh, and anyone who is not reading the manga and thinks that since it follows so closely you don't need to read it, I have to say that I'm really enjoying it.  Even though the story is the same so far (I'm only on volume 1) there are a lot of little things that make the manga interesting.  You should do yourselves a favor and take a look.

I just like to list differences. Even if slight. Oh yeah, I forgot to say the little girl's appearance was morbid in the manga since her left eye was covered with blood.

thank you for the welcome :smileyhappy: i dont mind a bit of hinting and spoiling, as long as its not too much. plus people usually mark it or i skip stuff that may sound like a spoiler.

oooh reading samurai's last post about the girl with the bloody eye in the manga almost makes me want to go out and buy it. how many volumes are there? goodness i still gotta get the last ch. of another manga i started reading "paradise kiss"

hey i was wondering if maybe he got a bigger sword because maybe he has more power then her? that would be interesting. and im guessing she wont recover that soon since of what i heard the story has to do with him temp. taking over her job. and yeah, where did he learn those awesome sword skills? is it because he has her power? anyways, some things to think about it. i never really had too many questions or thought about too many things until i started reading peoples posts and it got me thinking :smileyhappy:

I'm glad you like it.  There are a lot of funny little side comic sketches that are just hilarious. (speaking of manga, have you read any furuba recently?  I think Q is almost if not completely caught up to the Japanese release last time she was in the discussion threads over in OA...)

Now that's something I could reasonably keep up with.  One chapter, once a week, along with the episode.  *sets goal*

Funny that jurisd should bring this up.  My husband and I are going to try reading the chapters that correspond with the anime each week, too.  Don't know how well we'll keep up, but having that list of differences that someone put up earlier made me want to reread the manga to have it clear in my mind.  It's not that I don't mind if the anime changes things, but I want to know what is changed and what isn't for my own reference of the story.  (I have such a hard time remembering what happens in the anime vs what happens in the manga for FMA, for instance...)

Oh, and glad to hear you're at volume 4!  Once you get past the chapters that parallel the anime, I think you'll enjoy where the story goes.

If you're using the Graphical Editor (black screen with white font) then there will be a menu just under where it says "Message Body."  If you're using the HTML Editor (white screen with black font) then I'm afraid I can't help you.

On topic:  If this is a spoiler, feel free to report it, but I've been trying to think who else Ichigo's Dad reminds me of.  Hughes was of course the first character who came to mind.  But then I thought about it and it seems that he also has a healthy dose of Gai-sensei (from Naruto) as well.

Did anybody else notice how Rukia's outfit changes when she transfers her powers to Ichigo? I'd say more about it, but that would involve spoilers. **bleep**, it's tough to discuss a series after only one episode and not give any spoilers. Well, we can revisit this topic in, like, 30 weeks....and maybe again in like 60 weeks. There are 2 key points that won't be revealed until then. Oh, the suspense! :smileyvery-happy:

I noticed that Rukia's clothing changed.  It seems kind of weird for clothing to change like that, like it's part of who you are rather than just something you put on.

But Ichigo had taken away so much of her power... Maybe then Rukia was simply empty and "pure?"

I think you had your questions answered.  I was talking about the manga that's available here in America.  It looks like 15 volumes now and 23 in Japan.  I have to go looking for #15.

Silent - I am doing the same thing, reading along as we go through the episodes.  Of course, we'll only be able to do that for so long unless publications stay ahead of the broadcast schedule.
