They may have been Soul Reapers at one time or become Soul Reapers but they also appear to be humans and so are listed in this section.

Ichigo Kurosaki 1st Appearance: Episode 1 Portrayed By: Johnny Yong Bosch Race: Human Birthday: July 15

Ichigo Kurosaki is a 15 year old boy who lives with his father and twin sisters. He tries very hard to keep up a tough guy image and be as ordinary as possible. As hard as he tries, he will never be completely ordinary. For as long as he can remember, Ichigo has been able to talk to ghosts. When a young Soul Reaper named Rukia arrives, he soon realizes that he also has extraordinary spirit energy. He quickly becomes a gifted Soul Reaper and fights mainly by his strong instinct. Ichigo is extremely fierce and determined in battle but he is very gentle with his little sisters and children. He is intensely loyal to his friends and everyone he loves.

Ichigo's theme song is "News From the Front" by Bad Religion
Ichigo claims that his name comes from: ichi for first prize and go for guardian angel, although his father told him that his name means "he who protects."

Isshin Kurosaki 1st Appearance: Episode 1 Portrayed By: Patrick Seitz Race: Human Birthday: December 10

Owner and operator of the Kurosaki Clinic in Karakura Town, Isshin Kurosaki is a loving father of Ichigo, Karin, and Yuzu. His wife, Masaki, was slain protecting Ichigo from Grand Fisher six years ago. Isshin is extremely goofy and energetic, to such a point that he is an annoyance to his children.

Unbeknownst to Ichigo, Isshin is a Soul Reaper, who, until recently, had been without his powers for twenty years.

Karin Kurosaki 1st Appearance: Episode 1 Portrayed By: Kate Higgins Race: Human Birthday: May 6

Karin Kurosaki is the daughter of Isshin and Masaki, as well as a younger sibling of Ichigo. Yuzu and Karin are fraternal twins. Karin has the power to see spirits just like Ichigo, thought initially she refuses to acknowledge that spirits exist. After the passing of her mother, Karin promised herself that she would no longer cry, which most likely is the reason for her stone cold attitude.

Keigo Asano 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Yuri Lowenthal Race: Human Birthday: April 1

Keigo is a student that goes to Karakura High School and is friends with Ichigo and Mizuiro. Keigo is typically a goofy and an extremely hyper-active character, often using overly-dramatic movements and words to act out his feelings. In other respects, he is the stereotypical Japanese teenager. His family consists of himself, his father, his mother and his older sister Mizuho.

Yuzu Kurosaki 1st Appearance: Episode 1 Portrayed By: Janice Kawaye Race: Human Birthday: May 6

Yuzu Kurosaki is the fraternal twin of Karin, and daughter of Isshin and Masaki. Ever since the passing of her mother, Yuzu has taken a more motherly role in the family, which include cooking and cleaning the house by herself, therefore she is constantly seen with an apron. Yuzu does not have the same capacity to see spirits like Ichigo and Karin, but she can see faint outlines of them because of her constant contact with Ichigo and his spiritual energy.

Tatsuki Arisawa 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Wendee Lee Race: Human Birthday:        July 17

Tatsuki is very level-headed most of the time, unless provoked, and uses her great strength to protect her friends. She dreams of becoming a Karate champion and is already ranked as the second strongest girl in her age group in the country. Her most obvious feminine trait is that she makes a point of writing her name using Hiragana (たつき) as she believes her name is cuter written in that style as opposed to Kanji (有沢 竜貴). Tatsuki and Orihime Inoue have been best friends since middle school when she beat up a group of bullies that were attempting to cut Orihime's hair. At this time Tatsuki promised to protect Orihime from anyone that made her cry. She is able to sense Orihime's presence so powerfully that the connection can even cross detentions. While Orihime was in the Soul Society Tatsuki could still sense her presence, however when Orihime was taken to Hueco Mundo Tatsuki lost that sense of her presence. Tatsuki is also close friends with Ichigo Kurasaki who she has known since they were very young. Like most of Ichigo's friends, Tatsuki is spiritually aware and can clearly see Wholes, Hollows, Soul Reapers and other such supernatural occurences, though she seems to lack any spiritual powers of her own. She is strong enough to survive most spiritual attacks that would kill ordinary humans and was even able to survive the Arrancar, Yammy Rialgo's Gonzui.

Masaki Kurosaki 1st Appearance: Episode 1 Portrayed By: Ellyn Stern Race: Human

Masaki is the mother of Ichigo, Karin, and Yuzu. She died protecting Ichigo from the hollow, Grand Fisher, almost six years ago. Little is known about Masaki Kurosaki's past; however, she is portrayed as a very gentle, loving mother. According to Tatsuki, Ichigo would immidiately stop crying whenever he saw Masaki. Every year on June 17th (the day of her death), their family visits her grave.

Mizuiro Kojima 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Tom Fahn Race: Human Birthday: May 23

Mizuiro is a close friend, and classmate of Ichigo Kurosaki and Keigo Asano. Mizuiro appears to be a playful person, and constantly picks on Keigo by calling him "Mr. Asano", which makes him extremely upset. Ichigo tells Rukia Kuchiki that Mizuiro is a "player" and to watch out for him, which Mizuiro brushes off explaing that he's into older women.

Chizuru Honshō 1st Appearance: Episode 3 Portrayed By: Jessica Straus Race: Human Birthday: April 13

Chizuru is a student that attends Karakura High School. She appears to only be interested in women specifically, Michuru (another one of her classmates) and Orihime. In most cases, Tatsuki must intervene to stop the unwanted attention Orihime receives.

Mizuho Asano 1st Appearance: Episode 121 Portrayed By: Erin Fitzgerald Race: Human

Mizuho is the older sister of Keigo Asano. She seems to love men with bald/shaved heads, and therefore Ikkaku was the main target of her affection during his stay in Karakura Town. She appears to be extremely bossy, and has a very short temper.

Uryū Ishida 1st Appearance: Episode 11 Portrayed By: Derek Stephen Prince Race: Human/Quincy Birthday: November 6

Uryū Ishida is a fifteen year old classmate of Ichigo Kurosaki who makes the best grades at Karakura High. He has a very serious demeanor, though he often argues with Ichigo like a brother, and is a bit of a loner. Uryū is a Quincy, a sect of white-garbed, cross-wearing people with spiritual powers who exterminate Hollows, much like Soul Reapers. However, a Quincy doesn't believe in purifying and sparing the Hollows like Soul Reapers; instead they choose to destroy them, usually with an arrow made from their spiritual energy. For causing such an imbalance in the exchange of souls between realms, the Quincy were largely wiped out by the Soul Reapers. However, Uryū hates Soul Reapers because their inaction in battle led to his grandfather's death.

Uryū has a strong sense of justice and righteousness, and will often come to the defense of helpless victims, as well as defeating his opponents with ruthless efficiency...but he is not without mercy. He has used several different Quincy bows, and various other Quincy tools in battle, and is much the strategist.

Tessai Tsukabishi 1st Appearance: Episode 6 Portrayed By: Michael Sorich Race: Human Birthday: May 12

Tessai is one of several employees at Urahara Shop in Karakura Town. He takes great pride in his job at the shop (which appears to be janitorial work and manual labor). Tessai could be considered as a "gentle giant" and a very intelligent man. He appears to be very proficient with kido, as seen when he uses a level ninety-nine bakudo (one of, if not the most difficult bakudo to execute) to subdue Ichigo.

Kisuke Urahara 1st Appearance: Episode 6 Portrayed By: Michael Lindsey Race: Spoiler Soul Reaper Birthday: December 31

Kisuke is the owner and operator of the Urahara Shop in Karakura Town. Though he tends to play the innocent shop owner, he often knows more than he is willing to tell and even contains a diverse knowledge of the Soul Society. Along with his employees, Tessai Tsukabishi, Ururu Tsugumiya and Jinta Hanakari, he assists Ichigo with regaining his Soul Reaper abilities.

Kisuke is the former captain of Squad 12 of the Soul Society's 13 Court Guard Squads. His Zanpakutō is Benihime. He is also the creator of the Hōgyoku.

Ururu Tsumugiya 1st Appearance: Episode 6 Portrayed By: Wendee Lee Race: Human Birthday: September 19

Ururu is a rather small, timid girl who is employed at the Urahara Shop. She is constantly picked on Jinta, one of her co-workers, even though she is older than him. She, along with the others, helped Ichigo regain his strength in Urahara's underground training facility. Ururu's weapon of choice, Senren Bakusatsu Taiho, appears to be a rocket launcher wrapped in cloth.

Orihime Inoue 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Stephanie Sheh Race: Human Birthday: September 3

Orihime is a resident of Karakura Town and one of Ichigo’s classmates. Since the death of her brother, Sora, she lives alone. Her best friend is Tatsuki Arisawa. Orihime is a very friendly, caring, and sensitive girl who often acts a bit goofy and naïve at times. She has an unrequited crush on Ichigo. Her spiritual power, Shun Shun Rikka (Six Princess Shielding Flowers), manifests itself from the hairpins her late brother gave her.

Ryūken Ishida 1st Appearance: Episode 44 Portrayed By: Michael McConnohie Race: Human/Quincy Birthday: May 14

Ryūken appears to be a cold work-oriented man and seems to have a tense relationship with his father, Sōken, and son, Uryū. Though a Quincy himself, he detests them because working as a Quincy does not allow one to make a living. That stated, Ryūken’s hospital and tie are covered in crosses closely resembling the Quincy Cross. His feelings toward Uryū seem difficult and complex. Despite his hatred of Quincys, he helps to restore Uryū’s lost powers under the condition that he never associate with Soul Reapers again. To this end he constructed an underground training room beneath his hospital. While speaking to his unconscious son, Ryūken’s tone is softened revealing that he may in fact carry at least some love for his son. Ryūken also shares a somewhat friendlier relationship with Isshin Kurosaki.

Yasutora "Chad" Sado 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Jamieson Price Race: Human Birthday: April 7

Sado, more commonly referred to as Chad, is a resident of Karakura Town and one of Ichigo’s classmates. He is a tall, muscular teenager of Mexican descent. He was raised by his grandfather, Oscar Joaquín de la Rosa, until his death. Chad is quiet and a loyal friend who has a strong bond with Ichigo. Chad’s ability, Brazo Derecho del Gigante (Right Arm of the Giant), transforms his right arm. After spending time in Hueco Mundo he gains new abilities: His left arm can now transform into Brazo Izquierdo del Diablo (Left Arm of the Devil).

Oscar Joaquín de la Rosa 1st Appearance: Episode 12 Portrayed By: Kim Strauss Race: Human

Oscar was Chad’s grandfather who raised him after his parents’ death. He appears to be quite strong and muscular despite his age. He taught Chad the repercussions of fighting and the benefits of being kind and gentle. He gave Chad a Mexican coin, which is now Chad’s most prized possession. After Oscar’s death, Chad made a vow never to fight unless it was to protect someone else.

Jinta Hanakari 1st Appearance: Episode 6 Portrayed By: Jeannie Elias Race: Human Birthday: April 4

Jinta is another one of the workers from the Urahara Shop. Unlike Ichigo, his firey red hair never appears to have caused him trouble. Jinta is a constant troublemaker, whether slacking off on chores, or teasing Ururu, Renji (whom he considers a moocher), and many others. Even though he picks on Ururu, it appears that he still cares about her. His weapons of choice are typically either bats or clubs, most likely because he wishes he was a baseball player.

Yoruichi Shihōin 1st Appearance: Episode 15 Portrayed By: Wendee Lee/Terrence Stone (cat form) Race: Spoiler Soul Reaper Birthday: January 1

Yoruichi is very intelligent and, like Urahara, holds a vast knowledge of the Soul Society. Yoruichi's personality is just as eccentric; she can be very playful, teasing, and witty. Yoruichi is known to take the form of a black cat most of the time. While in this form she has a very masculine voice, often causing people to mistake her for a man. She is the only known character to posses shape shifting abilities.

Yoruichi is the princess of the Shihōin family - one of the four noble families of the Soul Society and the former head of the Stealth Squad and Punishment Force. She is also the former captain of Squad 2.

Yoruichi developed her own form of combat that combines hand to hand with Kidō called Shunkō.

She is known by many as "Flash Master" ("Goddess of Flash" in Japanese) for her mastery of Flash Step

Don Kanonji 1st Appearance: Episode 10 Portrayed By: Michael Sorich Race: Human Birthday: March 23

Don Kanonji is a medium who can see spirits much like Ichigo and Karin. Host of the popular T.V. show, Ghost Bust, he is a very well recognized person across Japan. Ichigo was able to instill confidence in the T.V. personality after Kanonji learned that the spirits he 'exorcised' actually became Hollows. While Ichigo was in the Soul Society, he recruited Jinta, Karin, and Ururu to join the Karakura Superheroes in order to protect Karakura from Hollows. Don Kanonji has a myriad of catchphrases, including the humorously imitated "BOHAHAHAHA!" and "Spirits are always with you!".

Sora Inoue 1st Appearance: Episode 2 Portrayed By: Liam O’Brien Race: Human

Sora is Orihime’s deceased older brother. He took Orihime out of their troubled home and raised her on his own. A few years ago, he died in a tragic car accident leaving Orihime to live alone. Soon after Ichigo became a Soul Reaper, Sora was transformed into a Hollow, Acidwire. However he uses Ichigo’s zanpakutō to kill himself so he may move on to Soul Society.

Sōken Ishida 1st Appearance: Episode 12 Portrayed By: David Lodge and Liam O'Brien Race: Human/Quincy Birthday: March 22

Sōken was the father of Ryūken Ishida and grandfather of Uryū, as well a mentor to the two of them. Sōken was a very intelligent and levelheaded man. He tried to ease the tension in the relationship between Soul Reapers and Quincies, but ultimately failed. Sōken was killed by a group of hollows before help could arrive. He was the previous owner of the Sanrei Glove, a powerful peice of equipment that helped Uryū grow in strength.
