You also play Cutter Spindell, an actor playing the character of Dr. Blake Downs. Will we see more of the fictitious Childrens Hospital cast this season? What do you like about creating this alternate reality? 

Yeah, that’s the most fun for me. And that’s a continuity and a reality that we don’t break. I really love—I’m a big fan of comic books, and I really love universes. I love that we’re sort of building this universe where these characters who play the characters live. We’re definitely going to expand that, too. We just got a spin-off picked up, and while the ink is still drying … I can’t say what it is. But it will definitely be a spin-off that will explore that side of Childrens Hospital, the world surrounding it.

Only half-kidding.

But I'm curious to see what this will be. Obviously AS is really high on Childrens Hospital, and Corddry and company.

I'm curious to see this if this goes anywhere - and why doesn't AS also pick up Blake Downs, M.D - I mean critics are saying "This show will never get cancelled" - I mean, how could they lose?

Bigger but fewer guest starts next season? Wonder who he has in mind for those. Sounds like fun.

Really excited about that movie. Glad to hear it has nothing to do with the show, because I don't think the show is meant for a 90 minute format, but soooooooo excited about having all these amazing people working on a movie. Can't wait to see it.

Also can't wait to hear more news about season four and the spin off series. This all sounds wonderful.

Here's a little update on where News Readers is at from David Wain:

Adult Swim has given straight-to-series order to Newsreaders, a spinoff of the network’s hit comedy series Childrens Hospital. Based on the “Newsreaders” episodes of Childrens Hospitalthat aired during seasons two and three,Newsreaders is a satire of the network television newsmagazine genre and explores the vital issues that actually don’t affect us every day, from hard-hitting investigations to harder-hitting heartwarming profiles. The series was created by the creative team behind Childrens Hospital: executive producers Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain.

Jim Margolis, former co-executive producer of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, has come on board to serve as showrunner and develop Newsreaders with Corddry, Stern and Wain. Production on the new series is set to begin in the summer. Newsreaders is produced by Stern’s Abominable Pictures and Warner Bros TV’s Studio 2.0.

Mather Zickel, who played Newsreaders anchor Louis La Fonda on Childrens Hospital, is set to reprise his role on the spinoff series. He is with Abrams Artists and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

In addition to his stint on Comedy Central’s Emmy-winning Daily Show, Margolis has a traditional newsmagazine experience — he worked as a producer for Lesley Stahl on CBS’ venerable 60 Minutes, whose style Newsreaders emulates. (Below is last fall’s Newsreaders episode of Childrens Hospital). Corddry and Wain are with WME and Principato-Young, Margolis and Stern with Principato-Young.
