My statement first:
The show, "Children's Hospital" has two very talented character comedians from the delightful and informative "Daily Show". In fact, "Children's Hospital" has many talented (yet not starring) actors and actresses whom have appeared in quite a few popular television series.
My Question: "Why is CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL chock full of boring bland tedious suckiness?"
Seriously. This "Children's Hospital" show supposed to be a 15-minute comedy series and I have not been prompted to laugh or smile or even emote in the slightest.
I am not amused or shocked or angered or saddened or even prompted to like, much less, love any part of this lousy show. How can so many talented people fail so miserably at the core talent of their career?
The photography of the show is fine. The sets are believable as a hospital setting. The audio is non-inviting despite 90% of the dialog being clear and audible. Granted there is the distinct problem of the constant repellent bored *SIGHING* from every character, however, that is more a problem of the acting cast's arrogant attitude rather than the level of talent available. The audio could be a bit more peppy rather than dreary and despondent. Music can set the emotional cues for a scene even if the scene is tedious and weak in writing (most of the scenes in the "FRIENDS" television series as an example). The actual medical procedures lack a decent comedic aspect much less even a parody aspect. None of the characters are memorable. None of them at all. I cannot name a single character, or empathize with them, or even have the slightest interest toward any of these characters, or even care if they were alive or dead.
Granted 15-minutes is a rather short time to entrance an audience, but let's review a few ADULT SWIM shows which had a mere 15 minutes and excelled (in DVD sales and audience loyalty and continuing advertiser dollars).
Also note that I have purchased all of the below-listed series DVD's (plus many others of the ADULT SWIM lineup).
"Aqua Teen Hunger Force"
"Metalocalypse"
"Robot Chicken"
"Space Ghost: Coast to Coast"
"Titan Maximum"
"Sealab 2021"
"Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law"
I liked the "Tom Goes to the Mayor" series (a great series about stupidly misplacing trust in repeatedly untrustworthy authorities), but have no interest in purchasing a DVD of it. I kind of liked a bit of "Tim & Eric Awesome Show", but it has just wallowed in unamusing fail most of the time sadly.
I will not purchase any DVD of "Delocated" or "Children's Hospital" because basically the teams for both of these series failed miserably in even the concept of entertainment and I do not forgive them for annoying me and my money.
They might want to remember the word "CHARACTER" can be broken down into the phrase "CARE ACTOR". I care for none of the performances of these tedious actors and actresses in this show. Therein, I do not "CARE FOR THESE ACTORS". A primal failure of getting the audience to feel something about your cast in any level of a convincing performance is the core failure of this series. Now, I will say that with a better and engaging audio track the series "Children's Hospital" *might* be rendered to a tolerably ignorable unwatchable series. One final note, "Children's Hospital" and *no children present ever* (the rapidly aging "child" character does not count)? Seriously? Kids are problematic actors, but many are funny because they are weird, dumb, have strange inexperienced illusions of how the world works, have very little knowledge of the world outside of their families (which are also often weird in non-obvious ways), and believe the stupidest things at the drop of a card (religion for one).
If I were the network manager I would dump both "Children's Hospital" and "Delocated" and replace them with reruns of "The Brak Show" or "Lupin the 3rd" or "s-CRY-ed" (a not repulsively stupid Anime show). Or if they have the cash, I'd think a run of the "Read or Die" (known as "Read or Die the TV") series might gain an audience as a 26 episode run (already dubbed to English) as the movie was weird but in an entertaining and good way. I am currently planning to order the "Read or Die the TV" DVD's off Amazon.com in the next few months and I am not a voracious Anime fan (although I do love animated series in general). I have purchased the "Ghost In the Shell" series DVD's and movies and have purchased the "Big O" series DVD set.
