Code Geass

So...the CG banner space [the Announcements section up there staring at everyone with it's cold, dead vowels]...it's rather limited in eye-appeal. It's all up there, all text-y looking.

I think it needs to be put out of it's misery. Or given a make-over. Or geassed to care more about itself. Something.

Point being, it is functional but boring. Functional is good. But boring makes me do really stupid things like shave my legs in the winter. Since it's getting cold out, that isn't such a good idea. So...rather than do that, let's play with the Announcements field with something other than just random board quotes.

I'm looking for ideas, thoughts, stuff to do to that text-y graveyard up there. Describe images, link things that illustrate what you're thinking about [if they are board-safe! I am not putting Kallen's arse up there, as funny as that might be ] - just let's see what you guys can come up with and I'll see about the rest. The general "rules" to this [other than board-safe] is to keep it CG related and it will still need to be useful as a space for Announcements and Discussion Quotes and stuff like that.

Eh, think of that as a placeholder for the return of episode discussion quotes once things pick back up again. The funny thing is, I didn't know that was a "real" place - I literally saw my first ever "Lumber Liquidators" commercial -yesterday- .

I would say for people to not worry about the HTML portion of things so don't let non-knowledge keep people from making suggestions of their own and / or suggesting additions and thoughts on other's ideas.  The HTML stuff will get dealt with as things go on. So links to pics and description stuff is just fine.

This is my concept.

Basically, I could extract the images from their backgrounds to layer over the text.
And they could be put on rotation to display many characters of the cast and represent what I believe to be Code Geass' strongest asset, the wide variety of fun characters.
The good part is it would create a very streamlined, even, and attractive look that can have the text changed at any time.
I can help you with the HTML if needed.
Here it is as it would look with the current header text.

Yepsi pepsi. That one and the banner in Metalocalypse are examples of things currently being experimented with but not by me yet because I'm afraid of blowing up the boards with my abstract coding crap. As I slowly figure things out, we'll have the same types of things going on in here too. Only I'm probably more of a spaz so our banner could have more changes once I know what I'm doing and it becomes second nature.

I think it should be noted that while there's plenty of awesome [and board-friendly] fanart stuff out there, it's best for now to stick with things that relate more directly to the shows as aired. Think of it as similar to the custom icon stuff only on a bigger scale. For fanart to be under any sort of consideration in the distant type future, it would have to be something that you yourself have created, own the general rights to, and something that you understand could be used on the boards without expectations of compensations [ie, you don't get paid for it's use - same as when they put fanart on tv during the bumps ] . Fanart use will be subject to Admin and Mod approval too if it ever gets that far so for now, it's probably best to think about screencap pulls, favorite character shots, and things like that to work with. But don't let that little restriction keep people from suggesting things for the future.

to Kohikki - I'll very likely take you up on the offer of learning how to do all that fancy stuff you did for your banner suggestion. Especially since that looks fricking awesome and definately something that fits a lot of what I wanted to keep for this board - something easily worked with so that things like the "quote of the week" don't ruin it with every change but still looking much better than the text-soup it currently is.

Kohikki is a board-less HELPeR. He had the same training-type accesses that I had but no board assignment.

And I'll definately be looking for learnings from the HELPeRs that are actively working on their banners so that I'll be better able to help this folder, no fear of that.
