I definitely agree with you about that.  Lelouch is a very likable character and I would hate it if he turned into a smug jerk.

if lelouch does, just why don't they show him sniffing his own farts, because light should have done that for every episode of death note

That's what made Light so tragic. Because of what he thought he had to do, he made a conscious (& subconcious) choice to eliminate all traces of humanity in him to achieve his goal. Lelouch seems like he's kinda going that direction, too, but hopefully he'll be "brave" enough to not get rid of his conscience entirely through all this killing - lest he turn into Crazy Delusional Light v.2

how can leluch not become a duechbag to be honest he's hitler-jew hating. I say this bcause he's taking the disadvantaged and motavating them for his own selfish means Japan wants to be free from brittania and that it KLeluch wants to destroy brittania and is willing to do everything in his power to do so.h I think that because of this fundemntal difference that one side will betray the other. not to mention that he will mostlikely be defeated because without him being at the front his forcesare less then mediocre

Light wanted to be a God, but Lelouch wants to stop th reign of an evil empire.  Even though Lelouch is also driven by revenge, he wants to help the innocent, not rule them.

This comparison has been made a bunch of times, but the one huge difference between both of them is Lelouch's "human side". He does have compassion for all those he holds near and dear to himself, and would never just throw one of them away. He may be cocky but he doesn't have the god complex that Light had, and unlike Light, Lelouch does regret some of the turmoil his power and decisions have caused others.

Ever since I first saw Code Geass I've noticed this. The main difference is that Lelouch is fighting for freedom and is put in more of a "hero" position. Code Geass takes place in more of a fantasy world than Death Note, where there are some people that simply need to be stopped. Lelouch stopping these people, makes him the hero. Similar to most other shows where heros are needed. But in Death Note, there are no clear cut villians or people who are so far out of line that they need a third party to come in and "save the world". Light really is nothing more than a crazy serial killer. As that's really all he was using the Death Note for. Whether or not his killings were justified isn't the issue here. The problem is, he's using his biased rule to pass judgement on the masses, in a country that already had a fine legal system going for it.

I agree with that. Lelouch has been portrayed as a hero in the show. Although you could argue that there is a bit of an anti hero quality to him.Going along with that is his human side that wants to protect his little sister and make a better world for her. I think in the coming weeks we may see this comparison start to slowly fade away if we get a chance to see more of Lelouch's human side.

After watching the first episode of DN, I see that Light was corrupted from day one.

So far, Lelouch is winning in my book.
