With them closing out, it's rather iffy.
That's one of the reasons I prefer getting things at a local physical store rather than ordering online, the possibility of returning it and getting a replacement through the store. The other reason being that if I'm getting anime locally, they'll see there's an interest and keep a selection in stock.
I'm going through the discs slowly but steadily to see if there's any other problem discs or if it's just the first one. Then I'll go from there.
Physical stores are a thing of the past and slowly but surely going out of business. This article may elaborate on a specific case, but their problems are other retailer's problems. And if you're looking for good customer service regarding returns and replacements, amazon.com is usually great about such things, unlike Best Buy (from the article, but I've encountered the same things).
I own all the original releases for Code Geass (including R2) and never had any problems besides the one episode I mentioned. I'd be surprised if the Anime Legends release has any other problems besides the early discs of season 1 which caused problems for a good portion of the people who bought it.
