Now that Bandai is no longer distributing Bebop, will another company get the rights? And if they do, will they be unwilling to charge the cheap licensing fees Adult Swim has enjoyed for years?

I think they're going to keep distributing titles that they are already distributing - until their license runs out, so until their license to distribute Cowboy Bebop expires, they'll keep making it.
They're just not going to distribute anything NEW. Cowboy Bebop is safe. Once their license expires though, I have no idea.

Ceasing distribution of videos =/= expiration of broadcasting rights.
At this point, it is unknown how long AS will keep Bebop on their line-up. I heard someone say that the rights expire around 2020; the rights will definitely expire before the new decade. But then again, the rights could expire this year, or probably tomorrow.
I should definitely purchase the whole season on DVD seeing as how I lost the DVD's that were actually made up of 4 episodes each. I guess Bandai is focusing on bringing K-On to the states, lmao.
Once Bebop leaves [as], the action block will be dead (if they don't acquire anything else by then.) It will be sad to see it leave AS, since it's critically acclaimed, and was the first mature anime to stabilize itself on a cable channel, a first in cable television history. Infact, Cowboy Bebop is so loved by CN that they actually put a nano-second of footage into the 10th anniversary compilation clip. I don't think many people will care about Bebop leaving the block seeing as how we've seen the series 100+ times, and it's now dirt-cheap on video.

If there were more shows like Bebop maybe they'd be making more money. Casual viewers, like myself, don't give a **noel** about slice of life or that moe crap. I'd rather watch G.I. Joe or Transformers...

It's safe? That's such a relief. I know I got it on DVD, but I need my dose of Bebop on Sat night. Not to mention blogging with you guys is such FUN! I look forward to seeing you guys each week.
I'm so glad we're not losing it. One of the greatest animes ever made, if not THE greatest!

I think Bandai will keep Anime Legends titles around, which include Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Escaflowne, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann. (Plus some others that I can't think of off the top of my head...)

Just in time for Season 2 in February. I hear Steve is returning as Starscream. All the more reason to love the Decepticons now.
We missed ya at the boards last night. We got some brand new discussion links for 2012 thanks to Alchemist81

So what else besides Bebop will they not be releasing?
I'm pretty sure the article said that they still carry Cowboy Bebop and will continue to carry it until their license expires. We don't know when that is though - it could be a year from now, it could be ten or twenty years from now. They're not going to be carrying any NEW titles, just what they have until the licenses run out.
There is a new title or two that they had planned to carry, but was cancelled. Those titles will be given in the original article.

AS did say that they'll never let their license expire on Bebop in one of their bumps, so it's a good chance it's not leaving this channel.

That's the problem with most of the newer anime -- too much fricken moe & slice-of-life girly stuff. I like some of it. But I've spoken with a lot of guys who won't watch anything save mecha or action.

That's me. If it's not some kind of action series I'm not interested. I don't mind drama being thrown in as long as the show isn't centered around it. I just don't get what people see in those moe shows...

Well, I do like Durarara, mainly cause it;s kind of freaky and supernatural and in a way kinda spooky in some eps. i do like that stuff as well as action.

A long time ago, anime was on Adult Swim every night, and weekends were the times for the horrible shows they play now.
Things change.
Having Bebop leave Adult Swim would give me no more reasons to watch the channel at all. I was into anime years ago but got out of anime around 2007 or so, yet I will always love Bebop.
And you know what? I like watching it on Adult Swim. There's something special to me about sharing the Bebop experience with however many people are up to watch it in the middle of the night. I have the whole series on DVD, but it's a lot more enjoyable to get a random episode of it on Adult Swim.
Cowboy Bebop will never die. It'll never be forgotten. Too amazing of a show.
