Mod Soul Prana, otherwise known as the Paladin Prototype, has been defeated. The Mod Soul was created by linking a wandering soul in the afterlife to a gigai, a physical vessel for shinigami life. Prana was brought to life by Kato Kabashi before he came back to this realm and was designated to defend Kazuma Nakashima as part of Squad Zero. He was killed by Aeryk Valkryon by a slash to the throat.

Daisuke Maeda, the current captain of Squad Two, has been defeated. Maeda accepted the promotion to captaincy to rebuild the Research and Development Department that had been shut down when Gallievo Malvae had become captain. Before becoming the captain, Daisuke was the lieutenant of Squad Four under Ryushin Takedo and was the Fourth Seat of Squad Two before that. In the story, he is currently on a mission alongside Kato Kabashi and Sanya Ni to hunt down the ryoka.
