I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I can stay focused on the story I'm supposed to be writing...and not the random ideas that pop into my head. Everytime I open Chapter 6 of Marked to work on it, I end up putting it aside for other ideas. It's really quite bothersome, as I want to finish it, but these other ideas just won't go away. I end up writing down the ideas...and then expanding on them.

For instance...in the last month that I began writing Marked again...these are other things I've done instead.

An outline of a 13 chapter story involving the spector Death. As in each chapter is about a character's death and how they react to to. Of the 13 chapters...6 are completely outline, 12 have the "type" death I want to use (leaving one yet to be filled and it's bothering me) PLUS one chapter completely written. Unfortanely...that chapter would be the last in the story as it might be the only chapter that could possibly be considered heartwarming.

The beginnings of a 26 Chapter story the involves a secret organization that hunts the creatures that go bump in the night...like vampires and stuff. While not much of this is oulined, I do have Character bios done for a good portion of the cast and specific scenes I want to use.

Then there's the whole Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass/The Hunting of the Snark meets The Rocky Horror Picture show deal. Basically takes those beloved characters and transforms them. Such as the Mad Hatter being a dominate lesbain, with a love of knife play,with the Dormouse and March Hare. The Queen of Hearts and all the cards are transvestites; while, the Red Chess pieces and the White Chess pieces are into the stuff that Poke likes. Plus there the whole thing with the Duchess,Baby and Cook part where things are not what the seem.  Not to meantion the caucus race turns into an...well what do you think it turns into >.> Still working on working in The Hunting of the Snark...mainly because I need to reread it. Seriously what is wrong with me >.>

Anyway, any ideas of how I can stay focused on the story I'm supposed to be writing. It's not that I have writer's block or anything...I know what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do it...it's just staying focused long enough to actually put the words on the paper and not going to write notes on other ideas. Any ideas would be greatly appriecated

Hmm, maybe try to figure out what attracted you to your current story in the first place, I guess.

Think up new ideas involving characters you're working with or little twists you can add to make things more interesting for yourself?

I find the best way to keep myself interested in my own stuff is to just think about scenes I really want to get to because I'm excited for them, and write those down.

That motivates me to work hard to get there so I can write it out (well, draw it, now, I guess. ) for real.

If even the most exciting future scenes you can think of bore you... well, I guess that might be a bigger problem. >_<

Although, I do gotta say, you have some pretty interesting distractions there.

Doing a complete re-read of everything that I have written in a particular story usually gets me back on track.

I don't know how to help ya with getting back to Marked though since I'm biased. (Where's the 3rd arc DN at????????)

Interesting as in interesting, or interesting as in "Wow, what a sick, depraved mind!" Of course that might just be me since I know what I have planned for them.

On a side note, I think I found my problem. After I woke up this morning It kinda just hit me. I'm drasticly changing one the of characters in this chapter and it won't be fully explained till chapter 8, plus the next chapter is largely going to be one big battle and I'm a little nervous about writing it. So allowing my distractions to get the better of me, I'm postponing writing it. So much for gettting ahead in the story

That's what was frustrating me, I wasn't bored with the story. Infact, I'm actually quite excited to write the chapter along with the next two...it was just staying focused long enough to get it down. Thankfully, I've been able to write it without any distractions today, so there should be no problem with getting it out tomorrow. It might not be till late at night...but it will be tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind for future writing problems

Deacon: uh...it's still on haitus. I haven't forgotten about it and actually have outlined a few chapter more. The main problem with that, besides the being DN'd out, was that the next chapter plus everything else begins to really lead to the final chapter. It's kinda crucial for me to not forget anything because there isn't enough time to put back in without pulling an ass pull. I don't want to do that, so I'm taking my time so I get it right. Right now i"m trying to get Marked on track, outline the rest of DN 3rd Arc...and well did you see my other distractions Hell that doesn't even take into acount reallife crap. I haven't dropped it, and I will finish it...but probably not till closer to the end of this year.

Also, since where on the subject of stories on hatius...where's my next chapter for Destiny Exiled

um, but i know what you mean about lack of focus, if i actually finish my Bleach story it'll be only the second story i've ever completed - the first one i had a 1 year gap in the middle of writing it, before i finally got pressured into finishing it heh

the only thing i can think of to keep focused on a story is maybe if you had someone (online or in person) with whom you could discuss the story in depth - you know, keep engaged with it and build off eachother's interest in the story

or something like that anyways - i have no idea how to keep focused, otherwise i'd actually have a schedule for my story instead of just posting it whenever heh

jokes aside, i agree with Hikki, your other story ideas do sound interesting heh

Sadly no The Alice one uses those characters in a twisted sort of way. The Death one already has the characters I want to use for it, and the Secret Organizaion one will be using a mixed of changed historical figures and new. I don't really know...that last might benefit from character submissions.

I don't let anyone in real life read anything I write. The very idea frightens me. Plus anyone I would talk to about it would have to know what I have planned and I want that to be a surprise lol. I know...it's a rock and and hard place.

ah yeah i suppose i can understand that... as an artist i occasionally draw some questionable stuff, but even if i wanted to post it somewhere i couldn't really since i'd be pretty concerned of it getting back to anyone who knows my style (if you can call it that, heh)

so... yeah i guess i'm not much help at all heh, that was the only suggestion i could think of and i wouldn't even follow it heh

Question! Do my skits count as fan fic and if so can I still call them skits? I like the word skits since it sounds more like a comedy word and they aren't very long and don't take long to make.

I think that they count as fan fiction.
There isn't any kind of set minimum length, the term fan fiction really
applies more to the aspect of the work being done by a fan based on
another author's works.
Further, since this is the Creative Works folder, they certainly fall into that category, and they are fun to read.

Yeah, its pretty much what Jingai said.   Basically with a fanfic, you're just taking an author's work and creating a new work from it.  There isn't a right or wrong way to go about it... I pretty much write stories (which are usually paragraphed), but every once in a while, like to write my fanfics in "script/radio" form.  

Most of my Trinity Blood fics are in script form.
