Not really a story or a script or anything, just a rough outline of how I'd like to see the project go.
In the years following the incidents at Isla Sorna and San Diego, the once lucrative biotech company InGen filed for Chapter 11 and went bankrupt. The board of directors was disbanded, and the company was all but completely shut down; save for a small group of “outside contractors” hand-picked by the late John Hammond in his will. The senior members of this group; Ian Malcolm, Ellie Satler, and Alan Grant work as a sort of long distance board of directors to transform the company into a small nonprofit organization dedicated to “keeping the dream alive” as stated in the will. The junior members of this committee; Lex, Tim, and Kelly (the main characters of this story) also work towards this goal- Tim in graduate school studying biotechnology, Lex and Kelly working with the San Diego Zoo to create a large exhibit featuring a robotic dinosaurs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbA0p5fbr5E). Lex and Kelly are also a lesbian couple.
Times are tough, and the exhibit is failing. While reading some old files on his Grandpa’s computer, Tim discovers that there is actually a network of cameras all over the island originally installed by InGen to keep track of the dinosaurs (that’s cannon, btw. It’s in the book and everything). Tim shares this information with Lex and Kelly, and the three come up with the idea to move their exhibit online by charging people to watch the streaming video of actual dinosaurs. The only problem is the fact that the cameras cannot be activated by any computers outside of those on the island facility. And so the three decide to use the remaining funds of their nonprofit organization to travel there and activate the system.
However, in order to do so they would have to have a majority decision of the impromptu board of directors, and all three of the senior members say “Fuuuuck that noise,” with Ian Malcolm being the most vocal. So in a bit of legal bastardry Tim elects his hot research assistant Jess and another research assistant, Mike, to the board and using their votes he drains the funds and they grab the first plane for Costa Rica.
They head to the docks and have the predictable amount of trouble one would imagine in trying to get one of the fishermen to take them to an island filled with dinosaurs. Finally they find a crusty old seaman who is willing to take them, but not until night, as “that’s when the fishing is best.” Creeped out, but glad to have a ride, they go back to their hotel to pack. They pack light as they plan it to be an in and out kind of job; each bringing a tent and a backpack full of food and water. Tim carries a pistol.
Midway to the island the crusty old sea captain attempts to rape Jess while everyone else is below deck. Tim comes up and pulls his gun before Jess shoots the old captain and it is revealed that she too is carrying a gun, which she claims to have managed to wrestle away from the captain during the attempted rape. She then pulls a large grey GPS device out of her bag and drives them to the island.
Sun is just before rising as they pull into a large gap in the rocky shoreline, the delta of a massive river that reaches nearly to the middle of the island. As rocky shore turns to mangrove forest it gets brighter until our group busts out into a dinosaur filled plains mid-sunrise, the usual “Ooooh”s and Aaaaahh”s accompany scenes of herds of brachiosaurs and parasaurolophus chillax on the water’s edge while in the distance a herd of triceratops just kind of do the triceratops thing. Galimimus are everywhere.
A pteranodon flies overhead and screeches at the boat, causing Tim to reach for his gun, however it only flies down to the surface of the river and plucks out a large fish before flying away. They boat along, admiring all the different herds of dinosaurs as they pass. Then in the distance a familiar roar is heard. A tyrannosaurus bursts through the trees at the far end of the plains and begins to chase after gallimimus, much like in the first movie. As it is too far away to cause any danger everyone is still all “Oooh” an “Aaahh,” except for Tim, whose face has turned pale. They pass into dense forest and the river narrows, giving one a moment of claustrophobia before again opening up into a kind of lagoon. The forest is still dense on the shores, as well as on the small islands that dot the water. Twin waterfalls feed into the lagoon from the southwest. Jess pulls the boat up to the shore in a clearing on the west side of the river, startling a large pack of compsognathus which had been hiding in the long grass. Jess declares them to be “there.” Tim declares that the plan is to head west up to the labs, spend the day doing what they need to do, then trecking back to the boat before nightfall. At this point Mike asks how they’re going to find their way back to the boat through the thick jungle. Tim is silenced. Jess pulls the screen of the bulky GPS device off and flicks a switch on the remaining half of the unit. A green light begins blinking. “Come on, we’re wasting daylight” she says.
A jungle hike ensues, during which the group stumbles upon a sick and ambling stegosaurus. They keep their distance, and wisely so, as a ceratosaurus bursts out from where it was hidden in the trees and kills the fuuuuuudge out of that stegosaurus. The wind shifts as it bends down to feed, and it tenses up as it catches the scent of the people. It turns around and roars as the group runs. Dinosaur chase scene through the jungle ensues, they escape it by running between narrower tree trunks where it can’t follow. Eventually it gives out a roar and stops, returning to its stegosaurus meal. Luckily it had chased them in the right direction, as just a bit farther through the jungle they come to a large mostly clear hill, on top of which sat the laboratory. Walking around to the front of the building they discover a large grassy clearing spread out beneath the laboratory and various administrations buildings. They enter the buildings to discover that they’re still all powered, due to the geothermal energy plant (that’s also cannon). Lex and Kelly work to get the camera network online, while Tim, Jess, and Mike look around the genetics building.
It gets late quickly, but the two finally manage to get the camera system back online and transmitting data to their computer in San Diego. They stop for a bit to check out all the awesome scenes on their computer screens; a herd of stegosaurs, a parasaurolophus nest, flocks of pteranodons, and finally the long grass at the edge of the clearing in front of the compound of buildings they were in, where a pack of velociraptors slowly slinked past the camera towards them.
They rush to the laboratory to find Tim, and find him downloading a massive amount of data from the computer databank. Lex questions him as to what he is doing, he responds that he is downloading all the information he would need to replicate his grandfather’s work. Lex argues that we should learn from the past and leave it alone, whereas Tim claims that they had learned from the failure of the first park, and not going forward to build another using what they had learned would be a waste. Furthermore, he claims he is only following out their grandfather’s last wishes.
Silence follows. Then, out of the silence, the snarl of a velociraptor.
The download completes with a beep and Jess puts the portable hard drive into her bag. Classic velociraptor-inside-building chase scene ensues. Eventually, the five end up on the roof of the lab overlooking the same hill they saw when they first came. Only there are two velociraptors there now. And a velociraptor on the roof behind them. Panicked, Tim pulls his gun and shoots wildly in the direction of the two raptors on the ground. Frightened, they scatter. Tim Feels like a big man with a gun for a second, then the five people jump and roll down the hill and into the cover of the jungle.
They arrive at the boat at nightfall and attempt to get the fudge out of there. Unfortunately, the boat is out of fuel, as the fisherman never intended to take them to the island anyways. Jess pulls out a map of the island and points to a mountain to the northwest, explaining that there is a radio tower there where one can get in contact with the coast guard. They make a small fire on the ship and throw their sleeping bags onto the deck and sleep, with one person on guard.
Just before dawn, Mike is on guard, but sleeping. The fire smolders, as a pair of velociraptors silently enter the camp. They inspect the sleeping people one by one until one stops on Tim. It reaches out it’s dagger claw and holds it to his neck, but it is stopped by a quiet bark from the other. Running over to the sleeping Mike, they discover he is the one with the gun, and so kill him. This of course wakes all the others, who panic and dive into the water just as a spinoaurus bursts through the trees and snatches one of the velociraptors. The other raptor attempts to fight back against the spinosaurus as our crew swims across the lagoon and disappears into the jungle on the other side. As they race through the jungle towards the craggy mountain in the distance amid the screams of all matter of dinosaur. There is fast paced, tense music and general chaos all about. They reach a small clearing in the trees and Tim has a breakdown. Talking about the events of the first Jurassic Park, and blaming himself for Mark’s death, he eventually decides to destroy the hard drive containing all the data. At which point Jess pulls her gun and points it at him, revealing that she is actually an agent of BioSyn, a rival genetics company which had been trying to get the dinosaurs ever since Dennis Nedry in the first film. She orders everyone to keep going at gunpoint. At which point the thud of a tyrannosaurus’s footsteps can be heard. It bursts through the trees behind Jess with a roar. She turns and begins shooting it, however the bullets seem to have little damage as the dinosaur swallows her whole.
The other three run up the hill to the radio station, the calls of the tyrannosaurus echoing behind them. They get inside the building and get into contact with the coast guard, who happen to have a boat in the area. They agree to a pickup on the shore to the north of their current location. Prepare to leave the building when they cry of the tyrannosaur is interrupted by they cry of another-the spinosaurus. Yes, that’s right, t-rex versus spinosaurus, round 2. T-rex wins this one. They run down to the beach where the coastguard is waiting to take them back, On the boat, Tim realizes he is no longer carrying the bag containing the hard drive. Assuming it must have been left on the island, he settles in for the trip.
A short epilogue explains that the dinosaur cam website was a huge success and the robotic dinosaur park in San Diego had doubled in size. And then a news teaser plays that BioSyn might have gotten a hold of that information after all… We’ll be covering that story more at ten.
The end.
