At the very least, you have to admit that this was a fun episode.

I don't know. This was always my favorite episode of the series.

Interesting concept so far and I think I've seen enough to stick with this one. I'm definetly curious as to what happens next and why this girl is helping him.

Coaster, I think it makes sense that anything like this, is purely Ratings worthy that it will beat the comedy of Superjail anyday, because it is something Toonami has not done before in airing an anime like this.
Since this is not much of a sig, I will say this, to anyone who wants to hate Toonami's Return or anything related to it without having to troll members of other message boards visiting the ASMB as well as the member here,

She's definitely mysterious. I'm with you, I'd like to keep watching just to see what this chick's all about and what her story is. She looked beat up pretty bad under her suit when she was hanging over the deadly spikes.

One thing we did not see this episode is Ganta's new blood diamond super-killer power that he used to avoid death from the big ball drop. That's unfortunate. Oh well, I'm sure it will be back.

This has to be one of the best animes i've seen and actually enjoyed in a very LONG time. Already feeling this more then superjail! since the second season dissapointed me much. Oh do I hope toonami doesn't go away anytime soon just so I can watch more episodes of this, with them silly colorful f'n english dubs. Bleach doesn't deserve to start off Toonami, it really is bringing it down out the gate, but this will keep me tuning in none the less.

I snort blunts and drink reindeer blood. Looking for the almost extinct creature known as: Jason Biggs. I'm Bat mane. All signatures are cheesy as sh1ttttt though

It's like... okay, remember when the main character called the UFC guy a dickwad? I don't speak Japanese, I barely speak English, but I'll bet a fistful of... "Cast Points"... that there is no Japanese translation of "dickwad". Not even a semi-close word that kinda might mean it.

So, from whence did it come? Chances are the reversion/localization team, or whomever was in charge of the direction of this show, decided to put it in because they decided that's the kind of feel this show should have. But it doesn't. It's a tacked on feel. I don't watch Deadguys for that "dickwad" taste. It's like taking Dr. Who and turning into some generic LOST-inspired Monday drama on FOX.

What's more, any genuine "dickwad" feel that this show has not only seems laughably amateur and forced, but it clashes completely with the rest of the show. It's like gory dark humor, but then it becomes all srs biz, then it's some edgy, gritty thing, and then the skintight clothes chick acts annoying and it's like, this show is just a casserole of mixed signals. Mixed signals, and other signals the show has no business trying to pull off.

I liked the UFC guy. I was actually kinda pullin' for him to survive. :robotsad:

But trading e-mail addresses? It's 2023. What hell, did Twitter get sinkhole'd like Tokyo did? Did the social networking sphere just magically disappear, thrusting us all back into the caveman days of attachment limits and Buddy Lists and AOL Keywords?

Also, reality show? I'm no man of the world, so someone's gonna have to tell me what kinds of reality shows they have in Japan that aren't game shows.

It's true, people will watch it for the violence. Hell, that's half the reason I'm watching it.

For a second I was a little bit disturbed watching one prisoner be electrocuted to death. Then I pretended I was watching Superjail! and it was okay.

AS made a good choice with this show. The jury's still out on how good the story is, but sometimes it's fun to watch a show that's just gratuitous. Isn't that why people watch Elfen Lied?

Okay, I was thought she was beat up from defending him throughout the race but maybe you're right and they were there all along! The power he got and this Red Man are even more mysterious I can't wait to learn about them as well.

I thought she had gotten through the obstacle course mostly unscathed--she is quite nimble. Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing. Who knows? That's what's so gosh darn fun!

God that line was soo good!

I wonder if we'll hear it fully uncut on the BDs :smileyhappy:  Not that the bleeps make it any less great and unique.

It's no "how big are those titties"

Well, almost nothing can be like that lol, nor her great nonchalant (not sure that's spelled right) response.  It also helps that line was one of the first lines like that in the show for the sheer surprise factor.

So, do you think in the original instead of "dickwad", he called him a "big meanie poo-poo face" or something?

It's not about accuracy of translation or how harsh what he said was supposed to feel to we the viewers, it's about what they're trying to make this show feel like. The original creators, the localizers, everyone. A spicy food is not just about spice, it's about flavor, and right now they're not handling the flavors well and also adding flavors that don't belong in the dish.

Yeah but, you admit to not speaking Japanese then accuse the translators of adding things that weren't there to begin with, what evidence do you have that they added this, and that there wasn't a similar insult or worse present in the original?

Yeah, I'm really interested to find out more about Shiro.  Her suit and her hair, and her agility are unusual.  I thought maybe she might be an android or some kind of super soldier or something, but she seemed to have bruises on her from the obstacle course.  Maybe she's just really well-trained?  I don't even think she's a prisoner though.  So, I wonder why she's there, and why the prison staff think nothing of her.
