Synopsis: Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of a crime that he hasn't committed, and sent to a new, privately owned and operated prison, where the inmates are the main attraction in a modern day twist to the gladiatorial coliseums of ancient times. Throw in a healthy dose of weird little girl, some new-found super powers, and a little conspiracy theory, and you have Deadman Wonderland.
OP: One Reason by Fade
ED: Shiny Shiny by Nirgilis
First episode airs the 16th, and it'll be streaming on Crunchyroll. Dunno if this is a bit early, but meh, here it is.

A seriously brutal series. I've never read a manga that had that much gore and insanity in it. I really hope they do the manga proud. From the trailer, the anime looks excellent. As long as they don't censor it or cut things out....you are in for a wild ride, folks!

Yeah, I'm up to date with the manga, so I know what you mean there. I probably won't be paticipating in the discussions much, for fear of accidental spoilerage, though I'd be be happy to answer anyone's questions if they have them. I am seriously wondering what they're going to do about some of the stuff in this series if they do decide to tone it down. I mean, some stuff could be cut or made milder, but a lot of the more messed up stuff is pretty plot relevant... I hope these guys know what they've gotten themselves into here.

Saw the 1st ep. So far it's interesting, though I'm confused as to how none of Ganta's eye witness testimony is taken into account when deciding his verdict. I mean, I know his defendant was a twisted douche working for Deadman Wonderland and some of the evidence could've been doctored, but they must've completely ignored any logic when deciding to give Ganta the guilty verdict without any proof aside from the doctored video shown AFTER the trial. It's nitpicking, but I find it weird in prison framing stories how some are just thrown in prison with little to no evidence to go by. Maybe it's explained in the manga though, so it might be hard to judge from the anime
You answered your own question, just so you know. The same reason we keep Lindsay Lohan out of jail is the same reason they threw Ganta in jail. Entertainment precedes justice.

Makes sense, as everything was rigged so that Ganta could perform in Deadman Wonderland, but as far as we know, there couldn't have been any links in Ganta's testimony that would link him to killing his classmates or why he was incapacitated. I guess it doesn't help that I recently finished the 1st Phoenix Wright game, thus causing me to rage at the verdict without pointing out any contradictions to the prosecution's witness-of-choice's testimony

When was the last time Lindsey Lohan did something entertaining? Fame and money precede justice.
I am getting a weird sort of disconnect between the premise and the action of this show. Like the '80s campiness of Running Man with a 28 Days Later sort of visceral despair. And I can't decide is that is a good or bad thing yet. The rushed plot development in the first episode was a bit lacking and none of the characters stand out as particularly interesting. Ganta mostly just whined a lot. Granted, he may have had reason to, but it doesn't give the best first impression.
Has some promise, but could just as well run off on a lot of silly technobabble and existentialism to cover up weak writing.
On a side note, my grandmother had a dancing flower exactly like the one on the defense attorney's (not defendant) desk. Complete with guitar and everything. Now I miss that flower and my grandmother's house.

I'm pretty sure all the authoritative figures in the room were in on it. At minimum, the judge probably was. The video seemed awkwardly placed, too. It probably made no difference what he said, they were going to send him away regardless.
I'm mainly curious about why he was picked. He seems like a terribly random guy to choose. And I hope there's only marginal focus on Shiro, she was kinda annoying.

He's from Tokyo, where Deadman Wonderland is built, and it was intimated that he had amnesia of his time there. Couple that with Shiro apparently being familiar with him, and it is fairly obvious that he is not quite as random a guy as you may think. He was chosen for very specific reasons, I am sure.

The friend said something along the lines of "we can't all be like Ganta forgetting things at will." That stood out as he had forgotten something important. And there has been no mention whatsoever of his parents, so I'm assuming he has none. Which goes back to something happening when he was a child in Tokyo and he has amnesia about it. And when the Red Man first appeared Ganta heard music that he "had heard somewhere before," so there is definitely a connection between him and what happened that he just doesn't remember.

its the same in the manga and anime. Without giving too much away, it was rigged to get Gunta into Deadman Wonderland. Didn't you notice that his "lawyer" was a bad guy? Besides, its part of the horror of Deadman Wonderland...you'll see why.
