I just keep getting the rushed feeling through out the whole time I'm watching. I wish I wasn't. Because I really love the manga a lot.

Spoiler
I think it didn't surprise them because the storage room was already well on fire.  It could have exploded (and perhaps did) without the chip being detonated.  I can agree a reaction from them wouldn't have hurt.
Spoiler
But I think the chip was bigger than you're remembering.  It's about 3x the size of a flash drive and half an inch thick at least.  It just looks like a thin RAM chip to me, set in a box much bigger than needed for the chip itself.  Enough room in there to pack quite a bit of explosive, which would be enough to kill Ganta at the very least even with our existing explosive tech.  Certainly more room in there than a pen...
Spoiler
But yeah, they should've figured something out.  A lot of criminals are pretty stupid though, which is why they end up in jail.  Still, a villain who gives away the whole game to idiots isn't really any smarter than the idiots.

I think that size would be more of a give away, actually.

Spoiler
I don't really know what kind of incriminating evidence they thought they had, regardless. People sit around a stadium watching them get slaughtered and don't figure it out.
Spoiler
I think the prisonbreak was over them being held based on having powers rather than crimes. i'd imagine some of them had gotten put there rightfully, but it seems like most of them don't have criminal history and were put there similarly to Ganta. In other words, I wouldn't call all of them criminals..... On the other, more relevent hand, it seemed like there were too many implications to not notice or to just brush it off. I think it would have been better if we hadn't known Rokuro was a traitor, that's really just an information release issue. However, I think with all the hints, it would have been too easy to figure out for nobody to catch on.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was kind of sad to see characters getting cut, even though I expected it. It's really a shame, because it could have been a lot better if they had the time to just stop and focus on the little details more.

Are the characters dumb as **tut-tut** in the manga, or is it just the anime? :smileyindifferent:

Eh, they have their moments. The anime hasn't changed the characters in any significant way, they're just rushing things way too much. DW's mainly just a fun action series to me, and I don't really read it expecting high literature. Makina and Toto are the only characters who I'd consider to be consistently intelligent, and even they have moments that are just like...wut.

True story. Really.

This is definitely the kind of show that fits in with FUNimation catalog.

Episode 1 was very interesting. Is it safe to say that the mc is being framed by the state? Who else could have doctored that video and put it on his phone? There's always the possibility that the mc is a psycho with multiple personalities, but considering they're in an age with hologram phones, my guess is video doctoring. There's also the mysterious case of the warden being his lawyer and the lucrative tourist aspect...

I'm also suspicious of ms. skin-tight-jumpsuit. My guess is ms. tittytarget is the one who blew up the mc's classroom, considering she hopped off X stories and landed np and spends her time standing on top of dangerous carnival rides. Something tells me she wouldn't have a problem levitating three stories and setting off an explosion.

If Ganta actually killed everyone.

He has like a second secret personality, the read man, who he went into and killed everyone.

That video of him talking about it was actually really him, he just doesent remember cuz that ginta wasnt actually talking.

But... thats just silly.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm watching the episode again and for a moment, when the girl wasn't facing the mc, he had a face like he despised her. At first I thought he was checking her out but not anymore.

Saw the 1st ep. So far it's interesting, though I'm confused as to how none of Ganta's eye witness testimony is taken into account when deciding his verdict. I mean, I know his defendant was a twisted douche working for Deadman Wonderland and some of the evidence could've been doctored, but they must've completely ignored any logic when deciding to give Ganta the guilty verdict without any proof aside from the doctored video shown AFTER the trial. It's nitpicking, but I find it weird in prison framing stories how some are just thrown in prison with little to no evidence to go by. Maybe it's explained in the manga though, so it might be hard to judge from the anime

I'm pretty sure all the authoritative figures in the room were in on it. At minimum, the judge probably was. The video seemed awkwardly placed, too. It probably made no difference what he said, they were going to send him away regardless.

I'm mainly curious about why he was picked. He seems like a terribly random guy to choose. And I hope there's only marginal focus on Shiro, she was kinda annoying.

The friend of the mc mentioned the mc was a survivor of the "red hole" or something, some mysterious tragedy in the plot. Then the friend went on to say "not everyone can have Ganta's knack for selective memory" or something of the like, referring to Ganta's psychological trauma and presumed amnesia. So there's definitely something going on with him already. Then a "red man" levitates three stories, sets off an explosion in his classroom, and he -- a survivor of this "Red Hole" incident-- survives? There's also the curious case of him vaguely remembering that song the "Red Man" played. I don't think he's some random person.

If this is your first time watching, do not - I repeat - DO NOT look through this thread.

The thread covers the entire series, from when it first aired in Japan.

I wasn't so sure how I felt about the first episode. It was really dark and all I could find myself saying was, "WOW!!" I really liked the second episode, however. I guess I just needed to get over the initial shock.

:smileyhappy: I certainly hope all people are marking their spoilers (some are). If not, why is the thread not marked as spoiler/no spoiler...?

Aside from that, has anyone else noticed how much this and a few other shows are derivitave of a movie from 1987 called

Deathrow Gameshow?

Just noticed...

It's because this thread was moved over from OA. So, yeah, people who are new to DW should not be reading this entire thread. :robottongue:

The spoilers aren't marked, obviously.

I guess I'll tread lightly then. :smileytongue: Didn't really plan on going through this whole thread anyway. I'm enjoying each episode more than the last, which is a good thing because I wasn't sure how I felt after the first episode.

Oh god, I just heard that this show was on Adult Swim. From what I've seen of it, it's a giant clusterf*ck of violence without any campy self-awareness to it. In other words, it's the kind of crazy violent anime that I can't stand. Better check it out.

A story shouldn't just give people what they want, but also what they didn't know they wanted.

Just tread lightly. It  got moved so no marks in it.  But do leave your thoughts if you wish.

I like wondering what the new people to the show think about it.

I'm not looking at past posts, so hopefully I'll be okay. Maybe if the veterans of the show come back in here to post during the episode runs they can mark their spoilers, or at least keep them to a minimum. Either way, I'll be sure to be careful. I've been spoiled on things in the past, and I hope that doesn't happen with this one because I'm enjoying the ride. :smileyhappy:

Finished the anime. Did not like it. In fact, I hated it. The whole thing just devolved into an incoherent mess with lame characters, lame action, and lame atmosphere.
