What the hell happened to going all guns blazing and using their powers to escape??? It went all

Shouldn't that have been more of a reason to try and escape? Not to say that Hummingbird wasn't just using him for an ends to a means or possibly even try to get him killed so she wouldn't have to fight, but god dam kid!

It was very abrupt and anti-climatic.

Did you see the armor those guards were wearing? That armor is impervious to obvious plot holes so they had no chance of escape. And he also has to keep fighting so he can fight the red man who killed his friends.
