I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm hoping to be working on it next week...after Christmas.

I do still plan on entering something...even if it's crappy. I most likely will be crappy :smileyvery-happy:

Does Netflix even do that anymore?  I thought I heard recently that they were shutting that portion of the business down.

Since I don't understand much **noel**, I prefer dubs.  Almost all VAs do a pretty good job these days so it's not that horrible like subbers always say.  10-15 years ago, that wouldn't have been the case.  I generally can't stand subs but that's because you're forced to spend the whole episode reading the words at the bottom of the screen, instead of enjoying the anime like you should. (Anime is a highly visual artform, after all).  There are really only a handful of shows that I watch subbed.  If I understood Japanese fully, I'd watch some shows in Japanese.  Some I'd still prefer dubs.

I find that people tend to be drawn to one or the other based on what they experienced first.  People who started a show with dubs, prefer dubs.  People who start with subs, do subs.

Matsuda's probably not gonna first on the list.  I can't stand him and he's less of a main character than many others.  Maybe one featuring the whole Task Force...

I wish I could draw.  I can't.  My mind has all these cool visions and ideas, but my hands can't translate into anything good.  And you can't really learn to draw extremely well unless the natural talent.

Like I said, as long as it's in before the 31st.  Though personally, I'd rather have you concentrate on finishing your story before you start other projects.

Yeah, Netflix has both DVDs and streaming.  I use both quite extensively. :smileyhappy:

I started out watching them subbed even before I started learning Japanese.  That's what I'm used to anyway, like you said.

I pretty much wouldn't expect Matsuda to show up unless it was in an image with the whole task force.  He's not a prominent enough character, you're right.

To clarify: I'm a chick, ok? And I'm a hugger. And I call people "honey." That's just how I talk (really). I live in the South (if you consider Florida to still be the "South") and it's what comes out of my mouth and hands on the keyboard.

Well, you're going to lose the DVD option, eventually.  I know for a fact Netflix is discontinuing that whole DVD thing.  They're not even offering it to new customers anymore, just the ones who already had it.  It's just not as profitable as the streaming side of the business.

See, I was right.  As always.  :robotwink:  I should make a serious, concentrated effort to learn Japanese, though.  Even 5 years ago, most of my entertainment came from America.  Now it seems like almost all of it comes from Japan.  To think it started with one anime.  Maybe I'll try Rosetta Stone.

There are a TON of online resources for learning Japanese in addition to the audio programs.  My favorite these days is japanesepod101.com.  They have a free membership, but you don't get much out of the free stuff.  It's a fascinating language.  An application called Human Japanese is a good place to start too.  There is a version for iPhone, Mac, PC and maybe other platforms.  It's beginner level Japanese and they are supposed to have an intermediate level version coming out that I'm waiting for.

I didn't know new subscriptions to netflix didn't come with the DVD option.  Oh well, I actually prefer to stream, only using the DVDs when something I want to see isn't streaming.  Like The Sopranos.  If they were streaming that I wouldn't bother with the DVDs.

They WERE going to spin the DVD rental side off into a different company, called "Quickster" in one of the more retarded moves ever made.  The exec who came up with that mind fart was thoroughly spanked.  Lost over a million dollars in stock options too I just read.  Oopsies!

In by the 31st, got it...though I'm making no promises.

Don't worry to much about the story. It's designed to end after the twelve day of Christmas...which isn't till January 6th. I'm hoping I can just get it all written by then. I shouldn't miss it by too much if I'm a little late.

Well, if it's not in by the 31st, it won't qualify.  You can then resubmit it in a month for February.

Well, here's my entry for January.  Not one of my personal favorites, but at least it's a different theme.

And if no other entry is submitted before midnight, I auto-win once again.  Though I don't expect it to be up on the 1st, obviously.  What with you people's News Years celebrations and all.

Just saw the banner go up.

I like it.  Better than the L one anyway.  Almost makes me physically ill seeing him too much.

It's very nice.  I'm afraid you're the de facto banner artist for the board.   Good job!  Sorry there aren't more submissions, but you're doing such a good job of it...

"Almost makes me physically ill seeing him too much. "

Yes.  Yes, I imagine it would. :smileyhappy:

I'd make one but it would be a Matsuda banner and I have no imagination, so either way it would ####.

Plus I'm completely fried and have no thoughts in my head.  I'm not sure I'm making any sense at all, I should just shut up now.

You're doing pretty good.  More coherent than I was that one time...

Maybe someday I'll create a Matsuda banner.  Hell might have to freeze over, though.

You know I'm Team L, but I like Matsuda more. And he IS a Kira sympathizer...

If that's any kind of motivation.

He SHOT Light!  Multiple times!  Do you know how much that hurts?!?!  And that's what caused him to lose to Near.  Light had only two letters left to write.  Just two...stupid Matsuda.

DETAILS!! xD

If only Light had shown some sorrow for his father's death instead of that laugh, it might have gone a bit differently.

Not MUCH differently though... Matsuda was carrying a revolver, which holds six bullets.  Even if he had decided to go with Light and turn to shoot the others, he would have had only five bullets.  He would have had enough ammo to take out the SPK, but if the task force were armed (and if Matsuda was, they would be too), he'd have been shot dead by them, Light still arrested and still dead from Ryuk writing his name in the book.

Yeah, Matsuda shot Light, but I insist that had he gone the other way, things wouldn't have turned out much differently.

Don't puke, but the kitten sitting next to me purring may be starting to revive me a little bit.

Light was sad when his dad died.  He just didn't respect him.  There's a difference.

Well, LIGHT respected his father, KIRA didn't.

Kira was taking measures that Light's father would never approve of to rid the world of crime.  The more I think about it, the more I want to separate Light from Kira.  They're like two different people who thought along the same lines.  The Yotsuba arc delineated the differences between the two in my mind.

Thinking about how the show ended...

Matsuda was completely devoted to Soichiro.  Matsuda got that job because of connections that his father had (from the manga), and was very inexperienced.  Soichiro was watching over him, taking care of him and Matsuda knew that and appreciated his efforts on his behalf. I really think Soichiro really liked Matsuda as well.  it was a quasi father/son relationship.  In that sense Matsuda felt a brotherhood with Light.  He loved him and believed in him.

Matsuda was a sympathiser with Kira's supporters and probably Kira as well.  Had Light handled him differently at the end it MAY have gone differently.  At least... I said before I have guns and I'm trained in their use.  One of the guys who trained me is an ex marine, ex NYPD cop.  I am left handed, but he trained me to shoot right-handed as well should the need arise (this is all self-defense).  I am going under the assumption that a well trained cop will be able to shoot with their non dominent hand.

Now, Matsuda had already shot Light in his rigtht hand and had 5 bullets left.  Assuming Kira was armed as well, had Matsuda gone with him in the end and shot the SPK and Kira with his non dominent hand shot the task force, Kira would have won.  Then he would have written Matsuda's name in the notebook and he would have been dead.

Light would have considered this turn of events to be horrible and would have recoiled, from it, but Kira would have muscled through.

Just thinking about it.... I thought Cowboy Bebop's ending was epic. Holy poo!

No, they're the same person.

During the Yotsuba arc, that was a different Light because he hadn't seen and experienced what the true Light did.

Light seemed to think he only needed to kill Near and he would have been able to get out of it.  Maybe he thought of a way to talk his way out of it right then.  Or maybe he thought without Near, they would make a mistake while arresting/transporting him and he would be able to take advantage of it.

I wasn't talking about him turning Matsuda.  Not sure how you came up with that.

I actually hate most anime endings.  They're either hastily done or they don't solve anything or something else I don't like.  Or it's because I don't want the show to end yet.  The only one I didn't have a problem with was FMA: Brotherhood.

You weren't "assaulted" by Light.  You were graced with his glorious visage.

All you people were b*tching about my banners so I started to occasionally switch it up.  Too bad you missed the L one back in January.

You say "graced with his glorious visage." I say assaulted and raped. *shrugs* Just a matter of perceptive.

*pats you on the head* You do a good job caving into peer pressure and making banners that you wouldn't necessarily do just to make me happy

I saw the January one, going through the thread. Thank you.

I miss the strike-through button :smileysad:
