I keep watching this. Can't stop. I remember the first time I watched it I was on the edge of my seat - heart palpitations, sweaty palms, the works. I remember thinking it's not funny, or there's little to no humor in it.
Well...
I watched it again, and again, and I'm starting to see stuff I missed the first time through. I'll start this off by saying that I am fully aware that I am very easily amused. I find most things funny. I was wondering if anyone else cracked up at any of this, or if there are other things in there that struck someone funny:
*L: Appalling manners. None, in fact. He sits with his feet on the furniture, he eats in front of people, plays with his food and talks with his mouth full. When he was discussing the timeline from the FBI agents entering Japan to their deaths, he pulls out a sharpie/magic marker and writes DIRECTLY ON THE HOTEL'S COFFEE TABLE. *facepalms* Of course, the guy has enough money to buy the place multiple times over, but still...
And let's not forget him showing up at the university's entrance exams, then his telling Light that he was L at the entrance ceremony. Then showing up at the college to tell Light that he told the others that if he died in the next few days that the task force was to assume Light was Kira. That boy was sporting a serious pair and all three events made me scream. LOL
*Matsuda: Not so much Matsuda himself, but people's reactions to him, especially Aizawa's. The looks on the faces of the other detectives in the room when Matsuda felt the need to stand up and state the obvious - that crime had dropped significantly because of Kira - pretty much killed me and really set up what the others thought of my poor little puppy. His pretending to be drunk and that handstand on the balcony railing stunt was fabulous.
*Aizawa: He cracked me up when they moved to their permanent headquarters and Matsuda was showing him the surveillance video of L, Misa and Light, then Aizawa's "no more Misa Misa talk." The Japanese actor's delivery of that line put me on the floor. His explosion mostly at Misa and Matsuda when Light and Misa were sort of released, and him shoving her out the door. At least he apologized to Matsuda. In the Near/Mello arc, they're listening in on Light meeting with Takada. Matsuda and Ide were sitting there yakking it up like a couple of girls while Aizawa's scowl erupted into that "SHUT UP!!!!" That "WHOA!" look on Matsuda's face knocked me over too.
*Soichiro Yagami: Aizawa comes into their new headquarters in his shorts, pants draped over his arm. Matsuda and Yagami turn to look at him, and instead of mentioning the pants, asked him what happened to his forehead (there was a bandage on it).
*Ryuk: He was a big, fat baby when the surveillance cameras were in Light's house and he couldn't eat apples. The LOOK on his face when Light was explaining he couldn't eat them while the cameras were there cracked me up. Then when Light's doing his tiny tv in the potato chip bag trick, Ryuk is rolling around on the bed, twitching and moaning for lack of apples. Light's in prison, just before he gave up the notebook and Ryuk's just sitting there, just wanting an apple. Plus when he first met Light his comment "so you'll be the only one left with a bad personality," and then his "... it's creeping me out" when he told Light he was being followed. When Sidoh was following him wanting his notebook back, "Hey! Quit following me!" A lot more from this guy, but this is what comes immediately to mind.
*Light: Not much funny about this psychopath except for when Misa tackled him in the street. The look on his face was enough to kill anyone, then his "This is the first time I've ever wanted to hit a girl," you had to identify with. I think this cracked me up the first time I saw the episode.
*Ryuga Hedeki (the real one): Pop idol first seen on the Yagami's TV telling a girl "I love you," to which Sayu swoons. Then Misa is in a movie with him and they're filming a scene - exact same line, exact same delivery. LOL
*Sayu Yagami: Pretty much every time she opened her mouth. I loved listening to her talk (don't know about the dub, I watch it in Japanese).
*General hilarity: The Yotsuba leadership going into that 'special reception' in those pink slippers. Something about ambitious, rich, powerful businessmen walking around in pink slippers, I don't know. I thought it was great.
I know as soon as I hit "Post" more will come to mind, but this is what I can think of off the bat.
To clarify: I'm a chick, ok? And I'm a hugger. And I call people "honey." That's just how I talk (really). I live in the South (if you consider Florida to still be the "South") and it's what comes out of my mouth and hands on the keyboard."MATSUDA!!"
