Let's kick this folder into high gear.

Despite the fact that [as] lost the rights to the series, as long as this board is around it should have some decent acitvity and as well as a few other things.

So allow me to introduce myself, I am LoverDemon and I shall be your newest HELPeR to this board.

So anyone have any suggestion on what should be done?

I have an idea for a little contest and such to bring in some activity if you guys up for it.

Thanks for the help on the banner, but...I'm not sure the DN Board needs help.

Nothing can really be done.  Most people who like anime and [as] have seen the show already.  And since [as] no longer has the rights, getting new people to watch the series either involves you advocating them illegally obtaining the series or going out and buying it, something a lot of anime fans won't do because of an extreme case of cheapness.  And who wants this board to become as convoluted as the OA board, anyways?  You can never have your voice heard there...

What's your contest?  We've had plenty of elims, most of which devolved into Light vs. L arguments.

A lot can be done, it'll just take a lot of work to get where it needs to be, but it is possible to do.

As far as watching the series is simple enough legally. Subs are much better than nothing, I suppose. And it would be a huge help for re-airing discussion, that would kick up some support on it.

As far as the contest, I'll reveal that in time, it should bring in a good crowd though.

I was never an anime fan until I found Cowboy Bebop.  Because of this I checked out a few more which I wound up loving (and one that I hated *koff*Lupin III*koff*).  Death Note kept getting recommended, so I thought I'd try it.  Rented the first DVD off Netflix. Rented the second.  Cancelled the rest of the series then ordered the DVDs off amazon.com.  I couldn't wait for them to arrive so I watched the rest of the series online while waiting. :smileyvery-happy:  I watch my anime in Japanese anyway, so I'm fine with the subs.

Since I was already on the AS boards for Cowboy Bebop, I was glad to see a Death Note board and here I am. I keep telling people they need to see this show, and hopefully they listen.  I usually talk about where I hang out to talk about my anime, and this board will certainly be mentioned.  Maybe we can get new blood in here like me who hasn't seen the show on AS.

It's just getting the word out.

I wish I had ideas about what we can do.  I like polls and elimination games if they don't go on forever.  Artwork contests are great too.

To clarify: I'm a chick, ok? And I'm a hugger. And I call people "honey." That's just how I talk (really). I live in the South (if you consider Florida to still be the "South") and it's what comes out of my mouth and hands on the keyboard.

I'm not sure.  With the show having been off [as] for so long now, people have moved on.  Sure, the occasional elim or something draws a few people here for a little while, but once everything ends, the people leave.  There's no permanent reason for them to stick around.

Oh God, who enjoys watching stuff online?  I hate doing it.  The quality is just terrible.  Glad I have the DVDs.

We'll see, we'll see.  I still don't like the idea of this board becoming as crowded as the Other Anime board.  It would probably drive me away from the board.

Well that's true, people leave if they just come for the games.  What really drives message boards, in my opinion, is the community that builds up in them.  People come for interesting discussions and make friends - sometimes they follow their friends to a message board and make it home.

I sure don't enjoy watching stuff online, but I found a site that had VERY high quality streams of Death Note.  MUCH better than the streams of Cowboy Bebop while I was waiting for those DVDs to arrive. :smileyhappy:  It kept me going, that's for sure, 'cause I was DEVOURING these episodes.  There's no way I could wait days between DVDs while waiting for my order to show up.  I'm not good at waiting for stuff, you know? :smileyvery-happy:

I could never rely on streaming to watch my anime.  The way I do things, if it's worth watching once, it's worth watching over and over again, so I get the DVDs.  Cowboy Bebop is nearly worn out.  I'm working on wearing out Trigun and Death Note now. :smileyvery-happy:

I can't imagine this would get as crowded as the general anime board.   Maybe it's the time of year, but all the message boards I hang out in are pretty much dead, even those that are normally busy. But... you know, a group of people will populate a board then wander off, to be replaced by another group, but usually there are a few old-timers still hanging around.  I love the newcomers, a lot of times they'll bring a fresh perspective on things which can generate more discussions.

Yup, and that'll definitely be helpful, I know not everyone enjoys watching anime online but there are people who do do it and will do it, especially when it comes to sites like Hulu and other official anime sites.

Polls are going to be going on I'll make sure about that, Elims can go on to, but I want to make it so most of the posts going on in this folder aren't just post from them. And that would work out nicely especially in series like this.

That's really what my job is, to 1. Get ativity running inside this folder, get people want to come here even though the show is off. And 2. to work on a wiki for this series.

Yes, not many enjoy it but sometimes it is the only means to do so, Hulu and Viz do need to work on the quality that they do upload something, and possibly even upload a dubbed version to go with the subbed, but with the subbed it's really just a take what you can get deal with Viz.

That isn't my focus, far from it, OA is a little too crowded yes, but for this folder not really looking for a rush of activity just a few posters, it doesn't take many posters to start up a board as long as there active.

Yeah, the discussions are what it's all about, but everyone who left got bored with rehashing the same arguments over and over.  I still see the occasional regular drop on by.  Lupinfan83 comes by to try and annoy me once in a while.  This board is definitely my home.  More like a lair, actually.

I would have chosen to wait.  That's what I've been doing with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.  Waiting for them to be released so I can watch them unedited and in good quality.

Streaming can be very annoying.  Especially if your Internet connection goes crazy on you.  I do that same thing with shows I like.  If I like them, I buy them because I know I'll want to eventually watch it again and again.  Never seen Trigun.  Cowboy Bebop is good.  I always liked Ein the dog.

Probably wouldn't get as crowded as those boards.  But still...  Anyways, this board is probably on it's last group.  I can't see lots of new people showing up.  Not unless Death Note got aired on TV again. Basically, everyone who wanted to see the show already has.  You get the occasional newcomer like yourself, but that's it.  No great influx of people.  Unfortunately lots of newcomers show up and start spouting "I hate ____." statements without trying to make an in-depth argument.

Well, my job is to basically stop you from doing your job.  I look forward to working together.  :robotwink:  Not another wiki attempt!  Someone who used to come here tried to make one and failed.  It still has a lot of the entries done, but I thought the idea of having a wiki within a thread was stupid and annoying to use.  Especially since there's already a perfectly good wiki out there.

I do it when the show is only available in America in such a fashion, but that's it.  I hate fansubs and all those other illegal ways.  They're what's killing the anime industry in America.  Most people won't bother to buy the series and support those who made it when they could easily steal it from the Internet.

You happened to show up during a particularly dead stretch.  There used to be 4 or 5 of us dedicated posters who went at it regularly.  Ah, those were the days: me vs. all of them.  Just like Light vs. all the ignorant people.  Good times.

Ah, well than we'll see how things turn out. The wiki idea is just a way to make things easier I find, plus it's a way to compact info inside a folder with new users without giving to much away. I'm not about to complain though it's part of my job anway. But I have plenty of ideas how to make this wiki look good and interesting, and I'll be sure to check that thread too, might be a big jump start.

Yeah, shameful, I completely get where your coming in that aspect.

I think a big reason why this died wasn't just because of the show ending but the helpers not being around as much as they could, personal things and such. But that would work nicely, only having 6 or so posters and going from there it's not too overactive but it isn't dead either.

It's your job to create wikis?  Why would [as] care about that?  Especially for a show they no longer have the rights to.

I don't think the lack of helpers hurt.  Actually for a while, we pretty much said or did anything we wanted here.  It was nice.  We pretty much did our own elims and contests and icon submissions.

I know drove away my fair share of idiots from this board.  But they deserved it for the way they were acting.

Do what you can.  Elimination games would be a good start (alyjough the last one I did only had 3 people playing).  Special ranks would be awesome.  To be honest, if you look on the message board I thought this board was so dead the only respectful thing would be to delete it.  Meilag disagreed.  I am a huge DN fan so if you can breath life into this board, I'll back you up with anything you need.

I like the idea of having information in one place where it's easily found.

Creating another wiki would be reinventing the wheel.  Is there any way to put in a collection of links to wikis and maybe blogs devoted to the show?  Perhaps a sticky posting at the top of the board that contains them.

I think it's good to heave a HELPeR around to... help out and keep things moving.  I'm interested in participating in threads and discussions about the show.  In fact, I'm trying to come up with new topics for threads myself.  I'm watching the show again (episode is paused while I type this :smileyvery-happy:), so I'm sure something will come up besides Light being evil - or not. :smileywink:

Yes that is one of our jobs.

  • Creating wiki type threads about characters, episode guides and the show in general, asking other regular members to help contribute to make it the comprehensive/entertaining thing to read about the show
  • Answering other's questions about the show or the boards, or pointing them in the right direction where they can find an answer. (i.e. linking them to appropriate threads, or wiki, giving out other websites where they can get additional info, giving them a mod to contact, etc.)
  • Creating polls and announcements in that section of your folders pertaining to the shows and getting people interested in things going on or whatever awesome thing you can come up with.
  • Creating custom banners.
  • Running simple contests or brainstorming ideas to get people interested the shows, and bringing any bigger ideas that can't be accomplished without an admin to me, to see if we can make it happen (within reason of course)
  • Editing out spoilers from other users.

The only one that I really have to focus on is the wiki, making sure the banners are put up every month and driving in people so that the board it active and more fun for everyone. The wiki is simply a way to compact things and make things easier, and even if the show isn't around the board still is that's generally how it works, it's the same with Code Geass.

True, but helpers really can do things that regular users cannot, this helps us bring in new things, make the boards nice and neat and even run contest for prizes and much more.

Special ranks might be doable, if not there are contests that can be run to give out special ranks to users who win, as well as a bunch of other different prizes with it.

Yes, but Humbug wanted to leave this open for the fans, which I agree with him for doing so. But while it might be respectable to close a quiet bored, it's more interesting to assign someone to that bored and see what they can do with it.

I am full of ideas, always have been especially when it comes to contests and being creative so I'm sure getting some activity running in here would be fun and not to difficult.

Yup, makes it so much easier and gives each other the board it's own unique look with the wiki's, which I do have big plans for it's look.

Unfortunately, the any information about that has to be written by yourself, essentially, the wiki's are fan created and anything submitted to them must be written by the posters hands and not simnply copied and pasted.

I will try my best to do so, and discussion threads are a can do not a worry about, and if you have any new or interesting topics, don't be afraid to post them, I'd happily enter into the discussion as well as others.

You know what I LOVE and would make a great contest?  Best Demotivational Poster.

Get a screen cap from an episode and make a poster out of it.  http://wigflip.com/automotivator/ is my favorite site for making these. For example, I made a ton for Cowboy Bebop: http://mrsspooky.net/bebop/share/demotivationals/index.html.

Posters (to the board, heheheh) can vote on the best Death Note (De)motivational.  I think that would be fun and get the creative juices flowing.

Not sure if you want to get into fanfiction.  To be honest, I haven't looked for Death Note  fan fiction (I'd have to guess most of it would be slash though).

The wiki thing is stupid.  I don't know why [as] is pushing it.  Anybody who wants comprehensive info will go to an actual wikia site instead of digging through pages on a thread.

But I like the idea of custom ranks.  Give me the custom Kira rank I deserve!!!!  I COMMAND YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that IB did a contest like this at one time though it was set so they could only use certain quotes to do so.

I like this idea and this will probably be something that we would do around here.

Fanfiction, fits better in the fanfiction section more than around an actual folder, however if people are for it, then sure we can do that.

Alright then, we'll start out all of this with a contest and I'll make a PM to Humbug about it the prize will be a custom Death Note rank for the winner. We have a few good ideas for one in here.
