No, I've been using this name ever since I started posting on AS in October 2009.  

I mostly live in the Cowboy Bebop board, but spend some time in IB (but only if I plan on being up all night ).

I'm kind of a Death Note n00b, and saw that AS has a board for it, and amazingly, it's more active than the one on imdb.com.

Why would you be surprised that the website of the channel that ran Death Note would have a more active message board than that sh*tty site?

Well, I would expect the folks who post here saw the show on AS.  That may not be the case, it's just an assumption (and for the sake of argument).  There are other means of watching it that people take advantage of, and imdb attracts some of the folks who watched elsewhere (like me).

I don't watch anime on American TV because they show it dubbed. I don't watch dubbed anime.  I speak and even read some Japanese and am agressively working on fluency in the language. I watch anime in the original soundtrack and understand a third to half of what they are saying (depending on the show) so where I tend to hang out (imdb boards being one of the places) people posting there are folks who watched dubbed AND subbed.   There is a lot of crap posted there, but there are some interesting, thoughtful postings as well.

Well, not so much with Death Note that I've seen, 'cause I'm so new to it.  I've been more active in Cowboy Bebop discussions.

Until I found this board I had no idea AS played Death Note.  I checked in because I was looking for some place where people were talking about it.  There has been a little activity on imdb, but this place is more interesting.  Fewer trolls too.

And yeah, depending on the board and how much "popular" attention a show or movie is getting, imdb CAN be a completely sh*tty board.  Every brainless jackass with their mom's computer and access to the internet is free to spew their bile and there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about it.  At least we have the ability to put them on ignore.  My ignore list is pretty long there these days. lol.

Yeah, I know you only watch subbed.  I don't because I would be unable to completely understand what the characters are saying without the use of subtitles.  And since anime is a very visual artform, you lose some of what it is if you have to spend a lot of your time reading the bottom of the screen.  At least that's my opinion. 

How did you hear about Death Note if not that it was airing on [as]?  Just a random show suggestion?

Yeah, it was on a Cowboy Bebop message board.  No matter which anime you're talking about, the question always comes up, "so what else is good?"

I haven't watched much anime at all, I guess because I'm a late bloomer and I'm really choosy.  Death Note was recommended by a number of people as was Trigun.  Watched them both.  Love them both.    Rented the first DVDs off Netflix, then cancelled the rest of the series and ordered the DVDs from amazon.com.  That's kind of how I operate with anime.

That's the best way to do it. Someone suggested Ouran High School Host Club, but I was first against it since it was a "girl" anime. But once I watched it, it was hilarious!

Oh yeah, isn't it?  I have a friend who went on and on and on about Twelve Kingdoms.  I decided to check it out, loved it and bought the series.  Took me a long time to watch it, and my friend harangued me mercilessly to finish it.  He actually threatened me with severe bodily inconvenience if I didn't finish it.  

I did and he was right, it's fabulous.  I know someone who started Death Note (I found out when he PM'd me on another board asking if he was going to have nightmares, 'cause it was creeping him out).  He likes it but doesn't like any of the characters.  So far he's gotten to the first five DVDs, waiting for his sister to catch up so they can watch it together.  

Sigh. I love L and the Kira task force.  I'm even liking Near and Mello (and Misa in the second half).

I've seen FMP recommended, but never heard of the other two. I'll have to check them out, thanks!

My nephew recommended the first 50 episodes of Bleach.  I watched the first one, but it was so hyperactive I just said "yeesh" and turned it off.  Sounded like an interesting story though. I may go back and try that again - but I do trust him when he said that it was crap after the first 50. I've heard that from so many people...
