How much do you want DBZ on AS Toonami?

They brought it back for April 1st and it retained almost every viewer who came for Bleach with over 900,000 total viewers for an unadvertised rerun. Clearly Goku and friends still have the magic and we may very well see DBZ on May 26th but that is a big investment and airing DBZ just once a week is rather brutal due to it's slow pace but no show is more associated with Toonami than DBZ.

Personally I'm warming up to the idea. They could air it uncut and it would easily draw a crowd. I'd rather see Dragon Ball since Kai is on Nicktoons but DBZ has always done better here.

There are some long time fans who would say it simply isn't Toonami without DBZ but IMO Outlaw Star, Yu Yu, Kenshin, Big O, Gundam and Tenchi could make for plenty of old Toonami flavor without DBZ. Then again, I'm flexible and like I said the masses demand DBZ and who am I to argue?

So who wants DBZ back and how much?

Not sure if they can air it. Doesn't Nick have the rights at the moment, or are the licenses for Kai and the original different?

Different, hence why they never aired the Buu saga of Z to follow Kai. Which is what AS should do IMO.

As long as GT stays the hell where it is. I prefer the canonical events as described in Dragon Ball Online.

DBZ is my favorite anime of all time, I own the entire story on dvds, have for years. Toonami, through DBZ, was what really drove me to become an anime fan. I'd love to see it re-aired, but even I can't deny it has a very slow pace. I wouldn't mind if it got passed over for another old favorite, or at least started airing at the Buu arc, Buu being my name here.:smileyvery-happy: It was where Kai and Nicktoons left off afterall.:smileyhappy:

I was actually debating about making this thread before I came into the folder. :smileyvery-happy:

Also yes, it would be cool to see it on Toonami. May or may not be on at launch but it would be cool to see it at some point for a bit.

I adore the entire DB series and have nearly gone bankrupt supporting it even so I never ever want to see the original Funimation dub aired ever again. Sh*t just air the Big Green dub if we're just not supposed to not give a f**k about quality and facts. I don't care about my childhood enough to allow such a terrible thing back on the air when if money is thown at it enough a better dub in HD (Kai) could be shown.

Yes I know it's a pipe dream currently. Yes I'm aware that Z tards only care about nostalgia and it would boost ratings. Yes I know I'm being a completely irrational fangirl which is redundant to say but god f**king d*mn it the dub even uncut is an insult that even the voice actors can agree on. I want no part of this even if its the only option available I refuse to support airing the mondo cool dub of DBZ.

That dub is....imperfect, looking back, but the Buu Arc isn't THAT bad. In fact I only consider from Ginyu through maybe Picollo meeting Cell to have consistently poor dialogue. Plus the Faulconer dub music, particularly Cell and Buu's theme, is highly enjoyable to me. Preferable to the japanese score if I'm being honest.

The Buu saga translating and acting is better but not even close to Kai at least in my opinion. Now I'd be fine with showing the Buu saga as long as it came after Kai but I'm aware pleasing me is not the goal, I just don't support it airing.

I'm not a Faulconer fan, never have been aside from a few songs but his music doesn't influnece my hate for the dub. If it did air though I wonder if the Japanese score would have to be used or if the rights of the American music are still in effect.

I don't want Z on the [adult swim] Toonami to be honest. Don't get me wrong DBZ will always be one of my favorite anime series but it's run it's course with Toonami. It had ran for pretty much the blocks whole entire cycle, and bringing it back just is a no no in my book.

Now bringing uncut Kai to the block I'm not apposed to at all. I think that a wider audience that can't afford the DVD's should be able to watch Kai uncut but who knows what will happen. We'll have to wait and see on the 26th.

I kinda disagree.  It may be essential IF it's gonna take over the whole Saturday night block.

The DBZ Uncut version from 2005 might be nice, but I'd more like to see just the occasional OVA or something if it stays in the current 3-hour format rather than going 4-1/2 hours from 9-1:30, then repeating.

The moment you've been waiting on for almost 5 years is almost here: One Piece returns to TOONAMI on This Saturday Night, 05.18.2013, at 1 AM! But first, the new, improved TOONAMI rolls on with Bleach Episode 298 at midnight, and then after that, it's Naruto uncut Episode 26 "Tenth Question: All Or Nothing!" at 12:30. Then, it's the long-awaited return of One Piece at 1 with Episode 207 "Great Adventure at Long Ring Long Island!" and Soul Eater follows that at 1:30 with Episode 13 "Man With The Magic Eye - Soul & Maka's Diverging Wavelength?quot; Next is IGPX Episode 4 "Ghost" and Eureka 7 follows that at 2:30 with Episode 38 "Date of Birth." ThunderCats takes up its new home at 3 with Episode 6 "Journey to the Tower of Omens", then Sym-Bionic Titan keeps the castle theme going at 3:30 with Episode 11 "Fortress of Deception!" FMA: Brotherhood kicks off Season 2 conclusion with an "Interlude Party" in Episode 27 at 4 AM, and Cowboy Bebop does the "Gateway Shuffle" with Episode 4 at 4:30. Finally a full hour of premiere uncut InuYasha kicks off Season 3: Episode 55 "Stone Flower and Shippo's First Love " and Episode 56 "Temptress In The Mist!"

DBZ still has staying power IMO, as it's become a cornerstone of anime worldwide, and it definately helps that it was dubbed by Funimation. I would love to see DBZ on Toonami, and not just for nostalgia. I think it's still got "it", and would bring more viewers to AS and Toonami.

Yes yes and more yes.

...

Put it this way...bringing Toonami back was step 1. Step 2 is DBZ.

Its a multple step program...but 1 and 2 were the most important. All the other steps just include bringing back a lot more old Toonami shows.

Gotta start small though.

Funkstronaut: Superman is really star Daily Planet reporter, Clark Kent...No lie.
VashVSGoku: Really? But Who Are you?
Funkstronaut: I'm Wonder Woman...At least on tuesdays.

I love how much we want DBZ on the new Toonami, yet FUNimation was campaigning people to bug [as] about Panty and Stocking.

I think Toonami on CN only aired DBZ uncut through the Frieza saga, and then just re-aired the original Cell saga.

But I hear that there are actually uncut versions of the Cell and Buu sagas that never aired on Toonami.

If Toonami was to acquire a weeknight timeslot in 2013, the way to do it would be stuff like One Piece and DBZ. But since Nicktoons has Kai locked down, why not give the Buu saga uncut a spin on [as]. On the other hand, Funimation's probably sold enough of it that they wouldn't give the license up easily. They sold the licenses for Deadman and Casshern so cheaply because they want those shows to get exposure. They're less of a gamble than DBZ would be.

However, going forward, it would be nice to see it back on Toonami in some form at some point, even if it is just a one-time nostalgia night like what we saw back on April 1.

If DBZ wasnt brought back I know at least for me I would defnitiely watch if OS,YYH and Gundam were brough back. Was never a huge fan of Tenchi but Big O was also great. Its not my field of expertise but does anyone know/think they could bring back DBZ with a combination of the other show's listed?
