Ah, but you see... Mikado and Masaomi's friendship is completely canon.  It's a friendship, and nothing more.  In fact, I quite enjoyed the three friends' relationship until they had to get into the whole misunderstanding-fueled fight each other for no reason plot point of total cliche BS.  That really did drag down the show.

You see, the thing is... I was shocked by this banner.  All I wanted to do was go to my thread and check and see if it got any replies.  It didn't, but that's okay... people are free to reply to or ignore what they see fit.  But then... then... I had to see this awful banner.

Not only is the poorly drawn fan art most likely being used without permission (against the TOS), but it has 2 guys about to make out.  You see, the mods were deleting icons of this sort of thing not too long ago, so it seems very hypocritical that they would allow this in a banner. 

I mean, don't get me wrong, what goes on between consenting adults is their own business, and I don't fault them for it, but it's not something I want to have to see, if I can avoid it.  I don't care to see public displays of affection or hear love/sex stories of any sexuality.  I'm not one of those people that goes "Details!"  It's quite easy, really... I just don't watch shows/movies where something like that is likely to happen.  Or I tune out people talking of such things or look away from PDA. 

The only problem is, if you want to come into this folder, it's practically impossible to ignore the banner.  It's full of "couples" and "shipping" and "pairings" and it makes me feel disgust and makes me embarrassed for this board, the show, and the anime community in general.  Anime fans are already maligned enough as it is.  This sort of thing just trivialized it to the point of these people being ABC Family Teen Drama fangirls.  That's what they might as well be.  OOOOOOOH MY GOOOAAADDZZZ YOUUU GUYYSSZZZ THEY ARE SOOO CUTE TOGETHER TEEHEE!

But yeah, I was under the impression that the icons of people making out were being deleted, so I don't get why this banner is allowed.  Maybe it was just homosexual kissing that was banned, or maybe it was overtly sexual icons in general.  Or maybe those people didn't go through the proper procedures.  The point is, I recall several board members crying "ASMB IS HOMOPHOBIC ZOMGZ" over their icons getting deleted.  The ToS seemingly conveniently alligned to keep me from seeing something that annoys and disgusts me, or so I thought; This banner exists.  Go figure. 

Am I really going to have to go the trouble of using script blockers to obscure it?  I mean, there are chances the next banner might not suck and I don't want to miss that, right?

Yeah, that's just one of the reasons I won't ever go to an anime convention.  Besides people sexually assaulting other people with paddles (which is for some reason okay for you to do, if you're a girl, it seems), there's the horrible, horrible "dancing".

And like I've said... it's usually easy enough for me to ignore.  They've got their fan clubs and pairing threads and that's fine.  Their baser urges are confined to those threads, away from the greater, serious, real discussion.  But now they've gone and infected the banner.  IT'S RIGHT THERE.

Haha... since LD got it cleared to do gifs, I'm surprised there isn't one of Shinra reenacting an aristocrats joke on Celty!  "It's okay because she recovers from any cuts and dismemberment, and is pretty much just a shadow!" Ugh... I hate Shinra so much.

I didn't think this show lent itself to that, at all.  But then you've got people that will look for romance and "pairings" (can't they just collect salt and pepper shakers instead?) in anything, so I guess it is unavoidable.

We're both big Cowboy Bebop fans, so let me use an example you might get.  It would be like if they did something similar in that folder, and had Vicious and Spike about to make out.  Totally out of character, non-canonical, disrespectful, and it trivializes those two characters and the show at large.  Oh jeez, I hope the Cowboy Bebop Helper isn't reading this thread and just got some 'clever' idea...

But yeah, pretty much... people think it is sooo funny that we have these two guys, Shizuo and Izaya, that hate each other do the opposite of people that hate each other would do.  Or maybe they think they're like an old married couple.  Or maybe it's just pandering to their baser urges.  No matter the reason, it's annoying as hell.  And just think, if LoverDemon hadn't done that with this banner, I'd have been well out of his hair by now.

My thread on the show, and every other thread, for that matter, are largely dead, and I was ready to pack up and leave this folder for the foreseeable future, when my eyes caught glance of that ridiculous banner.  And you know me, I can't say nothing about it when something bothers me that much!

I think the banner's cute. All of the fandom's big pairings in a cute little slideshow (although why no Saki/Kida love?). And here's the the thing: DRRR!! is an anime quite popular among the ladies, and many chicks for some reason find yaoi appealing. I'm not one of them, but I get it. It's a chick thing to pair people up I guess. And if Izaya was a chick, maybe it wouldn't bug you so much.

You don't get to dictate what kind of fans people are going to be. There are fans like you that watch something for the plot alone and lead in depth discussions and so forth. And then there's a much larger group of fans that get into a show for the characters more than anything else, and female fans in particular like to spend hours upon hours thinking up which characters would go best with which. It's fun. Get over it.

Also about this #### banner that everyone is having issue over:

First off, there was a poll on board for a few weeks asking people whether or not to include the "couple in questoin" and the people have voted.  The majority got the vote and therefore, its now in the banner.  Secondly, if you're betching and complaining... stop, its becoming redundant and annoying; Besides, the banner isn't changing until the end of the month (although, it does seem to bring this folder back to life).  If you didn't vote, don't complain: plain and simple.  Besides, if this banner violated the Terms of Service in any way, the mods wouldn't approve the banner in the first place (or they're just plain idiots that don't care.  But my bet is on the first suggestion).

I'm not thrilled about it either but I'm not gonna betch about it, because I can care less.  Its a piece that I can easily scroll past and click on a thread I wish to visit.  I'm sorry, but I had to say it.

1. LoverDemon told me a while back that the fan art is being used with permission. You'll have to ask where it comes from.
2. Why do you get the impression that they were about to make out? Izaya touched Shizuo's face! OMG! They're gonna SMOOCH! That's the natural next step after FACE TOUCHING! Remove the context of the show, and the picture in the banner is no different than the pictures of Mikado and Masaomi I posted.
3. I don't know anything about what mods are doing with icons. The banner is not against the ToS.

The fan-art comes from DeviantART and Pixiv (A Japanese form of DeviantART), I have the permission in a screenshot from the artists to use them, no worries there, as an artist I wouldn't like to have my work used without my permission.

Also would like to bring up two things about the TOS, since it's been a hot-topic lately. 

- Is patently offensive to the online community, such as sexually explicit content, or content that promotes obscenity, pedophilia, racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual;

Even if Shizuo was gay, he wouldn't go about it like that.  They look very girly up in that banner.  If Shizuo was going to kiss anybody, he'd probably grab their face with both hands so hard he'd crush their skull!  Shizuo is cursed to never know love!  And even if he didn't do that, they'd have a headache or brain damage.  Quite a price to pay for a kiss!  If he can't control his anger and rages beyond normal human capability, can you imagine when he... BLAST IT ALL, why do you have me thinking about this?!

I wasn't dictating anything.  I was simply stating my opinion.  I realize it isn't going to change the type of fans people are, or make these fans go elsewhere, but I can still complain.  That's my right. 

Ohoooo nooooooooo, it is not just the women who pair up people.  The men are just as guilty.  It's extremely annoying.  You'd think people could think about the characters in a greater way than just "who gets with who", but nooooo.  And don't get me wrong, I can be interested in romance to a certain extent, if it is part of the story.  There's clearly a romance with Mikado and Anri, or at least there could be.  I was interested in how that turned out, because it is a plot point of the show.  However, I could care less for these other ancillary couples, most of which aren't healthy, functioning relationships, in the least.  And I sure as heck don't care about a couple someone made up in their head to get their rocks off, such as Shizuo and Izaya.

And because I also care about characters, that's a reason why I'm speaking out against Shizuo and Izaya being made light of by that banner.  In fact, I'd very much like it people wouldn't insult Shizuo in such a manner, as he's one of my favorite characters.  I wouldn't care about Izaya because he's a jerk anyway, but the fact is that he wouldn't do that with Shizuo either.  The only implements these two men would be plunging into each other are something decidedly more deadly than their penises; this I can promise you.

I miss the old days of talking about Cowboy Bebop and the other great shows of that time.  We used to dissect everything back then. In fact, I can't remember a single instance of the shippers being around back then.  We did have our fun, don't get me wrong, but I don't remember that stuff ever going on.  The only times it did, and back then, people didn't use a retarded word like "shipping", mind you, was for stuff like Inuyasha, where a relationship was clearly part of the storyline.
