2. Why do you get the impression that they were about to make out? Izaya touched Shizuo's face! OMG! They're gonna SMOOCH! That's the natural next step after FACE TOUCHING! Remove the context of the show, and the picture in the banner is no different than the pictures of Mikado and Masaomi I posted.
3. I don't know anything about what mods are doing with icons. The banner is not against the ToS.

1. Yeah, he should have said so on the boards.  Still, I was able to edit my other post, so all is good.  He got permission.  No qualms there, then.

2. Because Shizuo and Izaya would never even do something that nice with each other, let alone kiss.  The only face touching going on should be punches, slices, etc.

I don't need to remove any context because I don't think in such a simple manner.  Men are free to be friends and not be thought of as a sexual couple; free to sit in such ways and act in such ways, etc.  As I mentioned, it's a common thing in other cultures, such as the French or Japanese, or back in the 1800s and earlier.  Men actually wrote that they loved their male friends in letters, and no one thought of anything of it.  It is only a simpleton that looks at two guys being friends in such a way and thinks of gayness.

3. I had actually thought that it couldn't have possibly passed inappropriate content muster (I meant to say this instead of patently offensive content in my first post on this issue), but the more I think about it, they aren't actually, technically making out.  So, I may be out of luck as far as trying to argue that this is against ToS.  He definitely pushed the limits, though.  His meticulous calculation in this endeavor is palpable.

^^ This is a good point.

Also about this #### banner that everyone is having issue over:

First off, there was a poll on board for a few weeks asking people whether or not to include the "couple in questoin" and the people have voted.  The majority got the vote and therefore, its now in the banner.  Secondly, if you're betching and complaining... stop, its becoming redundant and annoying; Besides, the banner isn't changing until the end of the month (although, it does seem to bring this folder back to life).  If you didn't vote, don't complain: plain and simple.  Besides, if this banner violated the Terms of Service in any way, the mods wouldn't approve the banner in the first place (or they're just plain idiots that don't care.  But my bet is on the first suggestion).

I'm not thrilled about it either but I'm not gonna betch about it, because I can care less.  Its a piece that I can easily scroll past and click on a thread I wish to visit.  I'm sorry, but I had to say it.:smileytongue:

*Slams the door*

You honestly think that everyone here spends every waking moment on the boards?  I'm not bragging, but just giving a reason now, but I had gotten a new video game for Christmas and was playing that nonstop for the better part of January.  So it would seem that this poll went up and was voted upon while I was away.  When I get really into something like that game, my others hobbies, such as this board, tend to get ignored.

So yeah, I missed the poll.  But so what, you really think my vote would make a difference?  I'm fairly certain that the only reason that picture got put into the banner was because of certain fans using their armada of alts to vote it in.  The whole purpose of fan clubs and various specialty threads catering to couples and whatnot, is so that their stuff doesn't bother anyone else, and they get a sanctuary from people who don't care for it.

It's a win-win situation.

But is that good enough for them?  Oh no, you bet your bottom dollar, it isn't.  We have to devote a whole banner to their infatuations.  Indeed, they've infected the whole folder, and thus, made it my business to have to say something yet again.  It's not enough for them to have their threads and talk about it every other post even in non-special-threads, it must be forced on the rest of us in the form of this banner.  Don't get me wrong, I'd be annoyed even if Shizuo and Izaya weren't up there up there because I despise matchmaking in general, but them being up there takes the cake.

The cavalcade of Shizuo-Izaya fangasming and spoiling (that the two characters exist and are involved with each other in any way, their existence and their rivalry was spoiled because some people can't stop fingering themselves to a sexual situation in which they themselves aren't even a party) before the show aired, and this banner are like bookends of how I've been mistreated by this fanbase.  It's not enough that I had to be spoiled on who Shizuo and Izaya were, and they'd have a rivalry, but they have to add insult to injury with this banner.

Alt use would have been difficult, the poll I placed up prevent multiple votes from the same IP being voted also set it up so that people could not multi-vote because of cookies.

That poll was locked down tightly to prevent multiple votes from happening, one thing I like about polls, they prevent anyone from cheating when those settings are used on the banner.

Whole banner? There is one image of them and it plays through the banner for about 1-2 seconds and by that time it hits every other couple. Canonical couple anyone, I did miss a few but size constraints with .gif banners does come into play. I simply took the couples that had the most support and placed them up in the banner. Missed Kida/Masaomi because I got so many requests about that one, but it couldn't be fit in.

I stuck with what the fans wanted, which is what my job really is, I'm not big on Shizou/Izaya myself, but when the fans ask and it's in popular demand regardless of the number of people who hate the idea, if the majority is all for it, I say what the hell.

Mistreated? There hasn't been any mistreatment, just all a matter of a opinion, and the majority just doesn't share your opinions. That's just how it works sometimes.

I really think that your looking at this too personally, ever since you first posted in this board that has been your complaint, but that is the past and is overwith, gripping about it isn't going to help give you a better outlook. Nobody is "out-to-get-you", nobody put up this banner with the knowledge that you would hate it or not like it. This banner was placed up for the fans, by the fans. And as a HELPeR it is my job to assistant them with that.

I took every precaution that I could, read over the TOS, talked to Luuv:

SwimMod_Luuv wrote:

A same sex couple simply kissing isn't an issue.

Any sexual content is, be it same sex or otherwise.

So the more sexualized the image, the more problematic the image becomes.

Probably the nuder the participants, the more problematic it becomes.

The luder the act taking place in the image, the more problematic it becomes.

"Yaoi" in the spirit of celebrating same sex relationships isn't a big deal.

"Yaoi" in the spirit of "here's an image you can masturbate to" is more of a big deal.

What does the primary thrust of the image seem to be?  Does it seem to be just gatuitous sexuality solely to get off to?  Or does it seem like more of an actual emotional statement?

Is the image primarily about sex?  Or is it primarily about love?

Sex is problematic for the board.  Love is not.

The poll came next which I detailed fully so everyone knew the situation and knew what was coming, I placed it up weeks before February this gave plenty of people time to come into the board look around see the poll and make there vote.

Luuv's post rings true to what I was trying to do, this thread was made specifically for Valentine's Day and covered throughout the month, I took popular couples and put them up. The whole concept of love was what created this banner and the idea of what I wanted the banner to be. So if I wanted to, I could have let an image of them kissing slide into the banner, because it's as Luuv says and emotional statement.

Sure it's two characters that it would be highly unlike for them to get together, there is always the chance though, but the day itself represented love, bother heterosexual and homosexual were placed on the banner, because it is a day of couples, doesn't matter what there into, like, etc. There characters up there, there people out there, that this banner is made for.

And no, this isn't meant to push anything onto anyone, or try to change anyones views, but homosexuality does have it's own rights on the board, as long as there not pushing anything onto someone else, and nobody here is pushing anything onto anyone, it's anime, it's fake and it's fanart, so why is it such a big deal? From what I gather people are looking at this banner in the wrong way, there is a way that it is intended to be, and a way that people can make it out to be. My intent was the very words that Luuv posted, Love. And only Love.

I see, so the polls aren't so easily abused and simple as I thought.  That's good to know.

Still, the whole show is over and the board largely dead, and the only people left here are probably the handful of yaoi fans that represented a small minority when the show was in full swing.  This wouldn't have gone in if the show was still airing, I bet.  Still, I doubt my one vote would make the difference if it won by that big a majority in this instance.  Also, I tend not to pay much attention to those polls because the stuff they're asking doesn't really affect anything, and is usually just an opinion poll.

It isn't just that the yaoi is up there, it's because someone is so obsessed with it that I got spoiled on Izaya and Shizuo and them being involved in any manner.  Sure, they aren't a couple, but they do have a "relationship" that involves them hating and trying to kill each other.  And, even if they were a couple, I'd still be upset because that would be a spoiler.

Still, it's not as off-base as putting two characters together that never met or something, but this is pretty far off from anything that would happen, so it really is perplexing.  You also know that I detest "shipping" in general, so the banner was annoying on general principle, but the yaoi puts it over the edge.

I can honestly say that how it ended up with me watching Baccano and Gurran Lagann ended up much better.  I didn't get around to them until after the masses had already watched and discussed them to death.  I wasn't watching Ani-Mondays because for the longest time they were just showing old movies and stuff I'd already seen.  So, I watched Gurren Lagann on my own time on Hulu.  I don't think I Bacanno aired on American TV, and I certainly wouldn't have watched a sub if I knew a dub was coming.  I watched those shows on my own time, really only mentioned it in a handful of posts, and was much better for it.  There was no one there to ruin things for me like with DRRR.

Also, I find it harder and harder to believe that Baccano is by the same author.  It blows DRRR out of the water.  And I don't think it's just because it's told out of order.  Even if it went in order, It has far better characters and story, and had an ending and resolved most everything.  Oh well.

Okay, I wasn't clear on it.  So, the issue is sex and fap-worthy material then.  Makes sense.  I didn't look into it because I didn't care as I'm not likely to submit kissing icons of anyone.  The ASMBer's jumped to conclusions about their icons being deleted that ASMB staff were homophobic.  I already knew this, but this clarifies it.  Thanks.

That's fair enough, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.  I didn't say anything was being forced; I simply stated that pairings annoy me, especially one that has a bad memory for spoiling part of a show for me, not to mention the fact that it's so ridiculous of an idea that two enemies would get together.  I think someone was probably thinking "they fight so much; why don't they fuck already! lol" and some people took that comment too seriously.  Yep, that's probably how it started.

And while we're being fair, since you put that in that banner here, I demand that Fool_on_the_Hill heeds the call of the people and makes this the new Bleach Banner.  BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAA!

I didn't even know who that guy was until he posted the thread here.  I had originally thought he was mocking my post with his thread, before I took a stroll around Babbling for unrelated reasons and saw his m.o.  Trust me, no one pays me to say anything.  These are my own thoughts.

Just because the idea of two guys or women making out and/or going further disgusts me doesn't make a me a homophobe.  It would disgust most people.  Gays are probably grossed out by, or at the very least, bored and disinterested in straight sex scenes in movies, etc.  I'm tired of this damn political correctness bullshit.  It's a notion and term invented by Josef Stalin and I refuse to subscribe to it.  Just because I disagree and voice my honest opinion doesn't make me a racist homophobe.  But go ahead and go there, it's the last, dying attacks of a tired mind that knows it's lost an argument and has nothing better to come up with.

Here's the thing. I don't think you're homophobe. I believe I called you a prude somewhere and I think that's more accurate. And honestly, there's nothing with the fact that it offends your sensibilities that there are people out there in the world who enjoy watching two attractive boys make out. You don't have to like it, you don't have to be polite about it, but it's out there. Get used to it. You can't just demand something be taken down or covered up because you don't like it.

Also, maybe if you don't immediately jump to the conclusion that all yaoi/yuri fans are pathetic perverts perhaps they won't all jump to the conclusion that you're a homophobe.

Fair enough, but I am far from a prude as well, I just don't feel the need to constantly talk about such things.  If I ever do, it's definitely something I try to keep to a minimum and/or said in a lighthearted nature and not "OMG I GOT TO FUK DAT."

I didn't demand that it should be taken down.  I said it should never have gone up.  It makes these forums look amateurish at best, and debased, at worst.  They would never do something like that in the InuYasha or Bleach folders.  They respect the fans and the shows too much there.  This just seems... cheap, and pandering to the lowest common denominator.

There's plenty of fan threads and such for this stuff to metastasize in.  We don't need it up in the banner lowering the image of the fanbase.

I never said they were all pathetic perverts, but their fixations definitely annoy me.  Still, people have their fetishes and what they like, and that's fine.  It's their business and I'm fine with it as long as they don't shove it in my face.

That being said, there are some definite perverts.  I know a young woman who is into yaoi who has watched a hentai with a man and a young boy, and even fantasized about incest between Inuyasha and Sesshomaru.  She didn't even think there was anything wrong with this and tried to rationalize it with whatever BS she said.  I don't remember what it was.  The point is, some people don't know where to draw the line, and they're definitely out there.

That doesn't mean that all the people that voted for this banner are perverts, but I still think it's something that shouldn't be catered to.  I might like Rukia, and might like it if she and Ichigo were actually an item, but I don't constantly post about it or create fan clubs or demand it be put in a banner.  That would be selfish on my part, and it also lowers image of the show and fans by making it look like all anyone cares about in the folder is matchmaking.

This banner does shove people's fetishes in my face, however.  They make it my business by putting it front and center as the flag of sorts of this folder.  Things that are uninteresting, boring, or that I find offensive.  It seems to say - "You don't like our matchmaking and yaoi/yuri?  You don't want to go into our threads and talk about it?  Too bad, choke on this banner."

I think we can do better than this.

With that in mind, I don't have to look at it anymore, since, as I mentioned, I blocked the image with an add-on.  The only thing that sucks is I can't see Fool's awesome banner in the Bleach folder.  I had to throw out the baby with the bath water because of this debacle.  Also, the premise of this whole thing still stands, and even if I can't see it anymore, this abhorrent banner is still scarred into my mind.

I voted for the 2 kissing even though I hate yoai

but this is just annoying your arguing over something that is fan made = fake

also for some reason your starting to give me reason that Bucket is paying you to argue for him

Because you're a sadist clearly.  And bowing to the Gaystapo for fear you'll be called "insensitive" or "homophobic".

I think you're blowing this way out of proportion. (I mean "shoving people's fetishes in your face"? Really?) A great number of the people who actually still post in this folder like their certain pairings, why wouldn't they favor something cute like the banner for Valentine's Day? It's one month out of the year, let them have it. Especially since they post here way more than you do.

There's plenty of fan threads and such for this stuff to metastasize in.  We don't need it up in the banner lowering the image of the fanbase.

How does fanart in general, lower the image of the fanbase (just asking, not to be rude or anything)?  Fanart doesn't represent how all fans feel about a particular series, at best, it depicts how the artist feels.  I'm not dismissing the fact that there are fans out there that are obsessed with pairings and such, but I wouldn't quickly judge a series based on fanart alone.  As for Inuyasha and Bleach, both shows have a larger fanbase on these boards, so I'm sure that more than enough people have voiced their opinion on what is acceptable.

I'm of the opinion that the image of the fanbase amongst non-fans can't get much lower, with or without yaoi. People already think anime fans are wierdos...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on there for a New York Minute.  A great number?  If you call a handful of obsessed matchmakers repeatedly posting over and over "a great number", then yeah.  And why is that so?  Because the great majority of the people who actually discussed the show itself have up and gone.

Maybe it has to do with it being over with.  For some strange reason, re-runs don't get the discussion that they used to during the Golden Age.  I don't get it.  So yeah, all these people left, and now all that remains are shippers, and not the useful kind that bring you goods in boxes.  That's real nice.  A real paradise we've got here, where mine and others' posts and discussion on things that actually have to do with the show, its plot, characters, etc. are ignored and buried under "FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP ZOMG THEY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER!"

You think this is a good thing?  This is the fact of the matter of the situation in this folder, but please, let's not celebrate it and reward these people with a banner.  A banner that lasts a whole month, not just one day, I might add.  So, the current majority of dedicated posters are matchmakers.  That can say a lot of things about this show and its forum.  The show isn't really as good as I think, and its only worth is in pairing up people, or... I wouldn't be surprised if the actual good discussion was driven out by the likes of these folks.  Or maybe it's a combination.  I'm not sure.

Again, you find the banner cute?  Seriously?  You find drooling into someone's mouth cute?  You find people using each other for what they need and want cute?  Even if most of the pairings are legitimate, most of the relationships depicted in DRRR are the furthest thing from what I would call "love".  However, this, perhaps could be a theme of the show.  Demented and disturbed people using each other in such manners.  It could make for an interesting discussion, actually, if I wasn't so certain it would be stamped out by "TROLLING ZOMG!" or "NO THEY DON'T THEY LOVE EACH OTHER YOU HATER!" or just you know...  ignored and buried, like every other interesting thread here.

It only takes a few disturbed artists to bring down the image of a whole fanbase.  Most of the fans might be cool, but you've got a few weirdos drawing perverted stuff, and that makes us all look like weirdos.  Granted, I'm weird, and some of the rest of us probably are too, but I don't like to be thought of in that manner, and lumped in with such people.

And, it also represents the feelings of the people that like and support that art, and pushed for it for it be in the banner.  The way they did this makes me think of how Congress steamrolls unpopular bills through when no one is looking.  "Quick, while everyone is gone for the holidays and/or enjoying their gifts and family time, ram this banner through!"  It also doesn't help that there was a mass exodus of seemingly anyone who isn't a shipper after the show ended.  I'm not sure what to make of it, really.  But, it's not a good sign, that's for sure.

Yes, larger fanbases, that... while they do have their shippers, they are thankfully drowned out by actual, real discussion.  Apparently the only people that care about DRRR anymore are me and a bunch of matchmakers.  How depressing.  This feels like a cruel joke that someone is playing.

Well, you're partially right.  But it's also true that it is because of these people that a lot of folks equate anime with either hentai or crap like Pokemon and nothing in between, that they have such a low opinion of us in the first place.

Blah... I know I shouldn't care what people think, but still I do have some shame and respect for myself.  I try not to take myself too seriously, and I can laugh at myself, but I have my limits.  And that's why I'll never go to an anime convention. I don't want to get assaulted by a paddle-wielding pervert or forced to do a mass dance, among who knows what else.

Ahem. By your own admission you completely avoid the threads where those "useless shippers" post about how much they love the Shizaya (in actually, a good number of them don't actaully like yaoi), so how on Earth would you know how many people post there? And what makes you so much better than those "obsessed match makers"? You're both nerds.

And quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the "fandom's image" or any of that bullsht. I already get enough funny looks when I tell people I like anime, so who cares if I also like a series appreciated mostly by yaoi fangirls. Yes, it's sad for you that there's no one to have your deep, intelligent discussions with, but don't take it out on the other fans. They've done nothing more than like the same show for different reasons. And I don't even know what you're talking about. Perhaps you could point out a specific "interesting discussion" that was stamped out by silly fangirls.

I still really don't see why you're taking this so seriously. At first it was "This violates the ToS because gay sex." And then it was pointed out that there really isn't an issue there and now it's all "Why should we be rewarding fangirls of this show this folder is dedicated to and that they frequently post in with banners they like? They're stupid. xP" People like what they like. For the bazillionth time, get over it. The banner's not that bad and it'll be gone in three days anyway.

I haven't even clicked on those threads once.  However, you can tell just by glancing at the most recent post indicator in the folder view that it's the same two or three people, one of them with their massive armada of alts, constantly bumping up the thread.

Don't get me wrong, I try not to give a crap what people think for the most part.  I already like a ton of things that are absolutely trashed by non-fans.  I don't apologize for it.  However, it's a bit unsettling, to say the least, that these people exist.  It's like scoping out the Animal Planet forums and seeing that Jim Baller of Animal Cops Houston has a bunch of most likely middle-aged fangirls whooping it up for him.  It's like... really?  Not even Animal Cops is immune?  It's just something I could go without knowing exists.  It... makes me more disappointed in humanity.  There's even girls that think Starscream is cute!  He's a robot that turns into a jet!  How exactly are you going to be attracted to that?!  Seriously... What the hell?!

Not so much stamped out as flooded by fangasmy comments, or just plumb ignored and buried.  Don't give me the BS line that the majority of DRRR fans are these matchmakers.  It's a recent problem with these boards that shows end and the people stop discussing them.  It didn't happen during the Golden Age when there was only Action Discussion and not these damnable show folders that segregate fandoms and choke off activity and drive the domination of cliques.

This board used to be so much more active and better than it is now.  You have no idea.  The boards you're using now are but a shell of a shell of their former glory.  Perhaps it was the updates that people did not take to, or the Show Dolders, or just people moving on from things or the general decline of message boards, or all of the above.  Either way, it's an unfortunate situation, and the situation in this folder and the banner that symbolizes it crystalizes this reality.

No good discussion, and instead of a booming populace, a folder dominated by a small clique.  Which, in this case is even more annoying than the typical clique because they constantly matchmake instead of talking about interesting things like some other folders' cliques.

Then again, maybe the show just isn't as good as I'm making it out to be, and the only value is in fantasies and matchmaking for these folks with the ABC family demographic's mindset.  That's a whole other issue, if that's the case.  All the people who discussed things left because there's nothing to discuss because I've over-inflated the show in my mind.  Indeed, that would be an even more depressing reality.

I was just guessing at why it could be against ToS.  People complained a while back about their yaoi icons getting deleted, and promptly bitched that it was because the mods were homophobic.  Well, I now know that overly-sexual icons in general are a no go.  Unfortunately, it would seem none of those pics up there fit this cirteria as it was cleared by mods.  And shockingly, the people that put it together actually asked the artists' permission.  So, it's all kosher on that end.  But, it's still not a good thing, and is still wrong for the reasons I've discussed.

Besides that, even if I was to support a matchmaking banner, you'd think they'd make something better than this.  Anything you see in Bleach, InuYasha or other folders look very professional and beautiful.  This one looks amateurish and is filled with ugly art and backgrounds, all poorly put together.  Like they didn't even try.  It looks very slapped together and just LOOKS bad, in general.

Even if you like couples you'd think you'd want them to be nicely depicted with a nice looking background and theme around them.  But, this schlock is good enough for the matchmakers who will take what they can get and suck up to anyone who is capable of creating anything more than they themselves could create, no matter how bad it might be.  Just the fact that you have any artistic ability is something to be praised, apparently, even if it sucks.

You have an 03 registration date.  How is it you didn't hang here until 07?

And yeah, I didn't know what it was either until I started talking online with other fans.  However, I'm pretty certain it is at least common knowledge among non-fans now.  There was a guy arrested recently for having "animations depicting under age individuals in sexual situations", or something.  They said it in so many words, that the guy most likely had some kiddy hentai on his computer, let's face it.  And more people know about hentai than you'd expect, so it figures they'd figure that there's a homosexual version.

Eyebreel and MegaNaraku - I know right?  And to think, I came here and checked my thread, saw it had been ignored, and was just about ready to leave the forum for the forseeable future when I glanced up and saw that ugly banner.  The people here would have been rid of me if only they didn't have to up the ante and advertise, in plain sight, their cult with that thing, hahahhaa.

I registered back in '03 and made a post or two, about Cowboy Bebop I think, then forgot about the place. It wasn't until Eureka Seven was close to ending that I came back around...

If you hate it here so much, gtfo. I'm getting so sick of your novel-length posts complaining about how much better [as] used to be.

Ah, I see.  Yeah, Eureka Seven was weird.  I actually liked it at first, then I started to hate it, then I warmed up to it as it ended and liked the ending.  But yeah, that clears that up, I guess...
