Summary: The episode first starts off with a narative voice from an unknown female. It breaks into a scene showing a school assembly, welcoming back all the students for a new school-year. Mikado's familiar face appears, and he's eyeing Masaomi across the room, a shy smile, and then he turns his head to look at an unknown girl with glasses. This girl is seen still in her seat, catching an eye with an unknown teacher, who was looking at her inappropriately.
The scene ends abruptly, and we find ourselves looking at a classroom full of students. Mikado stands up blushing, and introduces his name, following after him is the girl with glasses we saw earlier, her name is Anri Sonohara. Proceeding with introducing is Masaomi, and finally Rio. An obviously hurt Anri is noticed, when the teacher calls off a name unfamiliar to the viewers yet, "Mika Harima." The class in then interupted by a boy, who tells the teahcer he is not going to be in class for the whole year, and he apologizes, leaving the classroom baffled.
Rio's story starts to come into play, talking about an evelope that arrived to her when she was in Junior High. The envelope information isn't given, until it cuts to a scene where Rio is texting on her cellphone to a unknown boy named Nakuro, no information how she met him, or anything was given. Their voices play back and forth, his a soft loving voice, hers a desperate, and needing voice. The envelope contents are photos showing Rio's father with another women, Rio believing that he's having a affair, she confides in the unknown boy. Still no identity is given to the sender of the envelope.
The next few scenes progress with Rio telling the boy of what she did with the letter. She hid it away, and tried to forget about the photos. But she felt as though everytime she was with her father, or having dinner, or even doing family activities, it was just a lie or fake. The boy comforts her, and tells her that her father's a jerk, and giving much sympathy.
Rio can't take the suffering of her father's possible affair, and writes a letter herself, to her mother. But nothing changes, she wasn't sure if her mother was just ignoring it, or worked it out when she wasn't around. Everything stayed the same, her father kept telling his same-old dumb jokes, and her mom kept making her stew too sweet.
Rio is still continuing to narrate, and she tells the boy she thought the need to just disappear, or committing suicide. She feels as though she can relate to this mysterious stranger, because he tells her he feels the same. She asks him to share, and he tells us he dated a girl once, who hooked up with his dad instead. But he was more angry at his mother who just said, "Stuff like that happens, and that it was more important that the neighbors didn't find out." He tells Rio, he feels like she cares more about the family's reputation, than him, and that maybe she's right. Rio lectures Naruko, telling him his mother doesn't care, or even care aboutt his feelings..she then gets cut off by her mother telling her that dinner is ready.
Before she leaves, she reads a message he sent to her. He asks her if she would like to disappear with him.
It skips back to the classroom scene, where we can see Rio through the classroom window. With this, we know that this even has already occured, and she's thinking back to the event. The narrative voice at the beginning returns, and tells us that she was ready to disappear with Naruko, and meet him. After-school we see her walking through the city alone, a man appears out of nowhere, and claims he is Naruko. But it's all really a trap, and he kidnaps her in a van, with two other people. Knocking her out with some sort of gas. As the van rides off, we see a man step-out of the shadows, and stomp on a left behind cigarette, laughing.
Black rider appears about to leave on their motorcycle, talking to man with glasses, telling them to be careful. Black Rider speeds down a highway, skipping with another scene where there is a scared man on his knees, trying to reason with another man with blonde hair. Angry, and displeased with a stupid answer, he appears to have thrown a vending machine at the man kneeling. It skips back to Black rider, shaking their head back and forth, just witnessing the vending machine flying through the air.
We see Black rider picking up a cell phone, and we hear the same man's voice, who stepped on the cigarrette earlier. It appears that he's givin them instructions for an unknown job.
The van appears once again, the three guys stepping out, to have another cigarette, and to talk. They see a shadow, and the black rider appears! The younger boy trys to attack, but the rider smashes his face against the wall with the front wheel of the motorcycle. Getting off the bike, the rider attempts to grab the girl from the van, but get's tasered by another man. They try to get away, but the black rider all of sudden is conscious again. Rider knocks the guy out, scaring the driver, who now sees the helmet has been removed from the rider. There's no head! Freaking out even more, the driver pulls out a knife and tries to attack, but the rider pulls a scyfe from it's neck, which is headless. Slashing the driver with it immediatly.
After the fighting scene was over, rider picked up their helmet, and placed it back on their head, walking over to the van, and untying rio, waking her up. We see the cell phone again, and see black rider typing on it, asking the girl if she is okay. Then proceeding on, Black rider takes the girl to some old building, where rider was said to take the girl. Rio climbs up the staircases, leading to the roof of the building. It's all quiet, and dark, until the same boy who was talking to black rider, and appeared crushing the cigarrette, shows up.
A confused Rio realizes that the Naruko, wasn't who he said he really was, that it was all just a lie. That he not only ordered her kidnapping, but planned the whole thing! He tells Rio that she is basically selfish and stupid, and that she wanted attention. He brings her to the side of the building, showing her a splattered stain of blood, from someone else who must of commited suicide. She attempts to Slap him, for saying something that offended her, but he grabs her hand, and holds her over the ledge. She looks down with panic at the blood stain, With this trick scaring her, he pulls her back to safety, immediately then telling her he has to go, telling her thanks for showing him how immature and ugly she really was, and that she would never really kill herself.
Rio feels the need to prove him wrong, so she jumps from the ledge, not caring at all. She is about to fall to her doom, when we see the black rider. Weird web-like stringy shadow appear, and catch Rio before she falls, bringing her safely to the ground. And Amazed expression on her face appears, and the black rider confronts her. Rio asks why she saved her, why she did it. And Black rider simply replies, "The world isn't as bad as you think it is." Leaving her, to sit on the ground baffled.
The beginning narative voice is heard again, speaking what Rio's thoughts were. She thinks back to what the boy said, "Why is it okay that you can have secrets, but your parents can't?" And she realizes, that it is okay, and that they would have secret's she'd never know about. And that maybe they weren't so evil as she thought them to be, and that she'd forgive them.
Skipping to back to after-school, in the present, we see Anri chasing after a boy named, Seiji, she is asking if he knew anything about Mika. he ignores her pleas, and walks away from her. Mikado and Masaomi overhear this, and ask Anri if she is okay. She respectfully bows, and runs off. Returning to the narattor, Rio wishes she could share all that she learned with everyone else.
THE LAST SCENE, we see Black rider once again, with the now identified character, Izaya Orihara. The Rider asks Izaya if he was responsible for the other deaths that occurred, to cause that blood stain we saw earlier on the root-top of the building. He acts surprised, and astonished they'd even consider him being responsible. Ignoring this response, the episode ends with Black rider speeding down the high-way once again.
