Anybody read the manga that just recently came out in bookstores? I'd say it covers around Episodes 1-4, but it is VERY different in how it does it, and I actually thinks it works to its advantage. While I noticed that it gets some hate now and then, I recommened that fans of the anime read it, because it is a very different experience. The presentation is more straightforward, the characters aren't needlessly explained until they become important, and you can actually tell what the story is (at the cost of some of the mystery being tossed out the window in the first two chapters).
Bear in mind though that as of now, only the first four volumes are scheduled to be released in the US. They cover the first novel only. Until the novels get licensed (which is unlikely) or until a second season is announced, you won't see much of anything the anime didn't already cover.
A story shouldn't just give people what they want, but also what they didn't know they wanted.
