Ep. 11 got me super-hooked

Ep. 26-28 made me stay for the end

Ep. 44 shocked me something fierce

Ep. 47-50 is one of the best finales of any anime series ever.

Probably 26, for me. That episode does the best job of summing up what I love about the show so much. Renton and Eureka are finally reunited (dontcha love emotional payoffs?), with him having matured quite a bit and her having started to realize her feelings for him in the meantime. Seeing her leave right as he was returning was a classic romantic movie moment, and it was great how her growth was reflected in running away whereas Renton's was reflected in coming back from having done so.

Holland also had some development, finally realizing his role (as a man, not a child) in this struggle and understanding the importance of the relationship between Renton and Eureka. In a way, so much early conclusion for him hurt the later episodes, but luckily the latter 20s and all of the 40s had enough other stuff going on that it didn't matter much.

Also, I think this was easily the best produced episode in the series. It even had those little cinematic touches that tie films together, like the door repeatedly closing on the pig doll (a metaphor for Holland being a pighead?), Talho blowing hair out of her face as she pilots the Gekko, and Ken-Goh whistling when Renton mans up to Holland. Everything just felt more alive and real here, with the colors popping vibrantly even by E7 standards.

And of course, the Beams were awesome, as always. As if that needed to be said.

It's just a shame I only got into this show on its last run, which means I missed out on some great discussions. If AS hadn't sentenced it to the 1:30 ghetto for all but the first few episodes, I might have been a fan much sooner. At least I didn't have to wait too long before Bones finally confirmed a big screen version was in the works.

I'm not sure, but I do know that episode 20 was where it began to dawn on me how awesome the show was getting.

3 way tie for me

49: Can't get better than this. Dewey's epic trap and the air battle are some of my favorite sences.

48: For obvious reasons that are to numerable to mention.

24-28: Ray and Charles, nothing more need be said.

A lot of people seem to like 48 the best instead of 49 or 50. Is it just because Dominic and Anemone might be even more popular than Renton and Eureka? Or do people think it's just a better episode or better conclusion to their story? Personally, I share a little of both sentiments, as their relationship is more f---ed up and realistic (and really, more exciting for it) to me... but I still have a soft spot for the fairy tale couple. It's amazing how much this show runs the gamut from deadly serious to slapstick humor, from realism to fantasy, and it all works beautifully.

Well, Renton and Eureka's ending was a bit cheesy/corny, so that could be a detractor for many people. Besides, we already knew [spoilers]they'd end up together[/spoilers], didn't we?
