I'm new here, so bear with me on this.

I swear, this is the best anime series that I have ever seen.  There are so many twists to the main plot.  There is so much character development throughout the series.  There are many underlying currents in the series that speak to issues that we face today.  The music, artwork, and everything is just splendid.

At 52, I guess I am a geezer here, but I enjoy this show to no end.  I get up early to watch it.  It's how I start my mornings these days.

This is the kind of thing that 'kids' should be watching, AFAIC, not most of the carp that's out there.  They could learn a lot from this.

This series has an awful lot going for it.  I just can't get enough, and look forward to watching it.

There have been times where I got misty watching this darn thing, and I don't get emotional over TV shows.  There are just some parts of some of these episodes that touch me in ways that shake the psyche.

I could watch Eureka Seven again and again and again.

Bones did great work when they created this.

FYI--
I see that a lot of folks here like to get their DVDs from Amazon....
Here's a bit of news.  Check out CDUniverse.  They have a DVD section there, and have DVDs for a bit cheaper than Amazon.  I get them faster than I generally get stuff from Amazon.  This could be because I am on the East Coast, and they are in Connecticut.  I prefer to purchase from the little guy, especially if they have a better price.
I have got my Eureka seveN DVDs from them without a problem, and for less than I would have spent, had I have gone to Amazon, even with the free shipping.

I don't think that the term 'kids' should be used for an anime like this. I'll give that it is morely a teen romance, but it really is anime that (so long as you can understand it) is meant for all viewers.

Welcome to the boards:smileyhappy:

You would be surprised how many people are here that are around your age. There are plenty of younger people, but there's quite a few over 30 too.

I wouldn't have a problem with kids watching E7 at all, as long as somebody was there to help them along a bit. After all, it was broadcast to kids and teens in Japan.
E7 has a special charm about it that can be appealing to all ages. At least I think so. And I don't see any problem with some of the things that might seem difficult to watch. Kids have to learn that not everything is as sweet as can.dy, the world can be bitter and harsh. But one thing in E7 is that you can overcome that.

It sure beats the completely pointless violence seen in 'kids' cartoons. Most of the time, that violence never has any consequence, nor is it even explained. It is just there. Kids have to learn there's more to it than that.

*very funny, filtering can.dy like that, not:smileyindifferent:

I dunno, I'd say that out in the world most violence is pretty pointless

Yep, I know that anime is for all ages.  There was an article in the November 2007 WIRED magazine on Manga taking over America.  I guess that this is a logical extention of anime.  I know that the local Barnes and Noble bookstore's Manga section has been growing over the past several months.

Me, I have always been into comics as a kid, and graphic novels, so the Manga thing wasn't a stretch for me, nor was anime.

Well, at any rate, I am quite impressed with E7, to say the least.

Just don't read the E7 manga while expecting the same kind of result. You WILL be dissapointed.

Same goes for all other manga remakes of animes.

Mmm, the show aired early Sunday morning in Japan, so at least they thought it was appropriate for kids. Of course, standards are a bit different there.

I think the artwork in the manga was really really good

you can't put it down just because the plot is different : l

and as for character development, why did you expect it in the manga in the first place? Mangas aren't supposed to be character-heavy, they're about superficial stuff (action, plot twists, w/e)

Well thank god for that!

I see amazon.com finally has pictures of vol 12 up. And sadly the special edition does NOT come with the Complete Best soundtrack OR a Gulliver plushie :smileysad: Just another vol of the manga and another t-shirt. I am disapointed!

Surrrrrrre. I believe you, really I do!!

@Magil: You could say that their idea of kid friendly is different, look at their "FCC" rules and look at ours. Then watch a fan sub and sometimes a company sub of some animes and you'll catch them cussing or calling some one a bit** and other stuff. I saw some subs where Inuyasha called Kagome a wh**e. It was funny!!

I am watching tv and playing games.

I agree with the artwork thing, but the way it de-faced (and I do appreciate the fact that mangas were designed for alternate plots) the anime was just too much. Also note that I'm not completely condemning it, it had some moments of shine that were okay, the ending was also nice, but I simply couldn't grip the the feel that it carried throughout the entire story line and still consider it excelent.

I don't care what the words are. That doesn't matter, nor is it even the point.

The point is things do not have to be perfect translations, in fact, sometimes they simply shouldn't be. This case is not extreme, but frankly I think the choice of words they used fit what I would expect Dewey to say. He's talking down to the masses, because he thinks of them that way. It fits. There is simply nothing wrong with it, and I think it even improves on his speech.

In fact, the whole speech works better, when you compare the two. I like how dub Dewey says "My friends..." after the pause. Works much better than the generic "Everyone..." Again, it really doesn't matter what it is supposed to be said, what matters is how it works.

that's... not really applicable, in Japan it would be downright creepy to refer to a large group of strangers as "my friends,"
in America it would help a politician, but it would definitly not over there

as for him talking to the crowd like that, Dewey wouldn't level with them! just because he thinks they're underneath him doesn't mean he wouldn't use big words to stroke his ego

You can't make apples with oranges.
But you can make Tang. And Tang kicks a55.
A full day's supply of vitamin C and less sugar than orange juice. How awesome is that!

The dub takes that and Dewey makes Tang. Yep, and I bet you thought he only made rainbows. Oh how wrong you were! And he makes his speech sweeter than the sub, but he still gave a full day's supply of woopa55!

Now do you understand?
