Eureka seveN Information and FAQ Thread

交響詩篇________________________

Psalms of Planets________________________
Eureka seveN

"Hey, are you listening? Music and movies are more about the memories they create. You're more likely to remember the personal relationships than anything else. That's right. Simply put, memory must be thought of as an intangible 'carrier' controlled by the environment that encircles it.

Do you know whose words those are? They're MY words."

--Stoner, episode 1

Welcome to the FAQ thread for Koukyou Shihen Eureka seveN. This thread is meant to be informative, as well as a place to discuss certain aspects of the series. However, because there is a fine line between being informative and spoiling, certain guidelines have to be set, so here are the rules (PLEASE READ THEM):

The general FAQ information will cover the entire series but will not go into great detail about plot points that have a major impact on the storyline. Major revelations, dramatic plot turns, and other events of this nature will not be addressed. However, there are sections in the FAQ that still might be considered as spoilers, and those sections will be marked as such. However, the worst spoilers you will find in here is probably the episode title listing, as this thread is written with a new viewer audience in mind. For the general discussion in the thread, it would be appreciated if spoilers are avoided as this thread is first and foremost for new viewers who have not seen the series, but if for some reason you feel like you absolutely must say something that could be even vaguely construed as a spoiler, you MUST mark and cover up any spoilers completely. Failure to do so will be reported for the sake of new viewers.

Also note that the information contained herein is based off of the ORIGINAL JAPANESE version. As always happens in localizations, there are likely to be at least a few minor alterations, but considering how many names, terms, and titles in the series are already in English, the chances are that most things of importance will not be changed much in translation.

Oh, and by the way, there are picture links all over the place in the main info posts, particularly in the character bios, so if you see something underlined, chances are there is probably a link for an image there, so feel free to check them out.

Please keep in mind that this thread is NOT a general discussion thread for the latest happenings in all Eureka seveN-dom. As of the original writing of this thread, episodes of the series are still making their debuts in Japan, and there is likely to be discussion of this topic. Please take those and other discussions of topics from deep in the series elsewhere to an established Eureka 7 Series Discussion thread (currently there is one in OA, though I imagine they will begin to move over to AD soon enough). This thread is meant for series information and for asking and answering questions.

Oh, and while I have edited and/or written much of the text and took all of screencaps myself, I do have to give thanks to the information distributed by the main fansub group for the series, as much of the information in here is based on their guides and forums (alas, ASMB rules prohibit me from giving proper acknowledgment). Some of the info also comes from Japanese Eureka fan sites such as http://eureka.g.hatena.ne.jp/ (NOTE: This website has MAJOR SPOILERS if you can read Japanese.). And I even referenced Bandai's US Eureka seveN homepage for some insight for how the character bios should be written. However, a great deal of the info and research is also strictly my own. So thanks to the people who put a lot of hard work into digging up at least a lot of the information that I have condensed into this FAQ.

And with that, let's get this show on the road.

What is Eureka seveN?

Psalms of Planets Eureka seveN is the first purely original work by Studio BONES. That is to say it is the first work by the studio not commissioned or conceived by someone else, nor is it based on a pre-existing story or manga.

It's a tale of life, the struggle of a young boy for the affections of a young girl, and how the two together could be the key to saving the world. It's a tale of the rise and fall of civilizations, of man and nature, of the will of the mind and the might of the sword.

But most of all, it is about love conquering even the most insurmountable of obstacles. Awwww.

SERIES VITAL STATS

Eureka seveN is 50 episodes long. The series made its Japanese television debut on April 17, 2005.

The series makes its American DVD debut on April 25, 2006.

Eureka seveN will be making its Adult Swim debut on the Friday Night Fix on April 14 and its television debut on Adult Swim at midnight on Saturday, April 15.

The series director is Tomoki Kyoda, director of the RahXephon movie, director and writer on several episodes of the RahXephon TV series, and a storyboard artist on Full Metal Panic!

The series composition (and script on most episodes) is by Dai Sato, screenwriter on such series as Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Samurai Champloo, and Wolf's Rain.

The series is produced by Studio BONES, the studio responsible for such titles as Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, RahXephon, Scrapped Princess, Wolf's Rain, and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Eureka seveN won awards at the 5th Tokyo Anime Awards for Best Television Series, Best Screenplay (Dai Sato), and Best Character Design (Kenichi Yoshida).

The Cast Of Characters - Part 1

WARNING: SOME MINOR SPOILERS!!!

GEKKOSTATE

Renton Thurston

Age: 14
Job: Oddjobs, Gekko Convenience Store Clerk
Hometown: Bellforest
Known Relatives: Axel Thurston (grandfather), Adrock Thurston (father), Diane Thurston (sister)

Renton's life is one marked by boredom and a yearning for the freedom to ride the waves to his heart's content. Unfortunately, his father happens to be the man who saved the world once, so he gets pretty bummed out that whenever he introduces himself people say "Oh, you're Adrock's son?!" He's also pretty bummed that he's stuck living with his mechanic grandfather in the quiet ho-hum town of Bellforest. "The worst," he calls it. See, Renton would much rather spend his days reffing, a sport in which a person uses what sort of looks like a futuristic surfboard to ride the Trapar waves in the sky, just like his oh-so-cool heroes in the rogue group Gekko State do, and he is a regular subscriber to their underground magazine ray=out. So when Gekko State shows up in Bellforest, it doesn't take much to convince him to come aboard the Gekko. While tagging along with Gekko State, he gets to ref in the legendary Nirvash typeZERO and, much more importantly, he gets to be around the really cute but really weird and mysterious Eureka, whom Renton is absolutely gaga over from the first glance. All of this sounds like it should be some Shangri-la for Renton, but not everything is as it seems. Renton tends to take things almost too seriously, and he can be painfully gullible, resulting in his ending up in terribly cringe-worthy situations (usually set up as a form of hazing by the pranksters in Gekko State). And, sadly, Renton doesn't seem to have the stomach for LFO reffing, as his lunch has a tendency of ending up all over the console after a practice run. And the object of his fascination, the one thing motivating his every action aboard the Gekko, Eureka, seems none the wiser of any of his attempts to earn her affection. And above all that is Renton's older sister Diane, long since missing, who Renton hopes to find one day through his travels. Still, Renton is a good kid with spirit and perseverence and a strong sense of goodness and justice. It's just that he is still just a kid after all.

Eureka

Age: 14?
Job: LFO Pilot
LFO: Nirvash typeZERO

Strange and mysterious, Eureka is the pilot of the Nirvash typeZERO. She is aloof and odd-mannered, yet she is not completely cold to those around her. She cares deeply for her three kids, even if she does not know why, and she seems to possess an uncanny ability to sense the hearts of machines. She also seems to be able to communicate directly with the typeZERO, which is what enables her to ride in it even without the use of a Compac Drive. Unfortunately, she seems to understand LFOs and machines better than she understands people, though she is always extremely curious and eager to learn more about the people around her. It is an encounter with Renton that forever changes Eureka's life, even if she doesn't realize it at first.

Holland

Age: 29
Job: Leader
LFO: Terminus typeR909
Mission Code Name: Alice

Holland is the leader of Gekko State and a former amateur reffing world champion. He is the hero of ref enthusiasts around the world and is the poster child of the ray=out counter-culture. While Holland's lust for the next big wave is indeed legendary, his reasons for forming Gekko State run far deeper than the simple pursuit of hedonism. A former military man, Holland lives to protect Eureka, and Gekko State under his command excels in anti-military activities. Naturally, the illusion of the super cool king of counter-culture is just that: an illusion. In reality, Holland is at times insecure, frequently emotionally isolated, and oftentimes just surprisingly average for such a cultural icon.

Talho

Age: 26
Job: Pilot of the Gekko
Mission Code Name: March Hare

An accomplished pilot, Talho might be considered Holland's main squeeze, though their relationship is usually awfully strained at best. She dresses promiscuously (if you want to call it "dressing" ) and often poses as a model for ray=out. But her beauty belies an often bossy personality and even something of a cruel streak, which she exercises liberally on Renton upon his arrival on-board the Gekko. However, Talho is also extremely bright and possessed of a sharp wit. She frequently participates in planning and strategizing Gekko State's missions, and she is the defacto leader and captain aboard the Gekko when Holland is unavailable. Indeed, much of her more abrasive personality traits may just be her way of trying to get the attention from the one person who truly matters to her.

Hap

Age: 29
Job: Second-in-Command

"Hap" actually isn't the birth name of the Gekko's number 2 and Holland's childhood friend. It's a nickname he earned for always having a happy smile on his face. A lover of peace and an all-around mellow guy, Hap understands Holland better than perhaps anybody else in Gekko State, and he thinks of Holland like a brother. It was Hap who convinced Holland to leave the military in the first place. He has been alongside Holland since the age of three, and there is nothing that will shake his loyalty to his best friend.

Matthieu

Age: 25
Job: LFO Pilot
LFO: Terminus typeR606
Hobby: Music, DJing
Mission Code Name: Mad Hatter

One of Gekko State's ace LFO pilots, Matthieu often takes the vanguard in battle in the 606. Outside of combat, Matthieu can come off as somewhat bored and lazy, but his passion is music, and he can often be found spinning vinyl whenever he has the chance. His music-loving attitude translates to an overall positive tone in his personality, and the Gekko tends to be just a little bit more upbeat thanks to his presence. Matthieu is also somewhat enamored with Hilda, and he will do whatever she says...most of the time.

Hilda

Age: 28
Job: LFO Pilot
LFO: Terminus typeR808
Mission Code Name: Red Queen

Another one of Gekko State's accomplished LFO pilots, Hilda and the 808 tend to take the back guard position in sorties as the 808's large beam cannon makes it ideal for long range combat. On-board the Gekko, Hilda usually takes care of the shopping and manages inventory on the convenience store's stocks and the ship's general food supply. Hilda also has a talent for forging documents, a skill which proves quite handy in keeping many of Gekko State's activities secret and undercover. She's one of the more responsible members of a somewhat brash and occasionally immature crew, and as such she could be looked at as sort of the big sister of the crew. She is good friends with the other women of Gekko State, most notably Talho.

Stoner

Age: 30
Job: Photographer / Writer / Editor-in-Chief of ray=out

Stoner is a professional photographer by trade, and he is on-board the Gekko to document their activities and record for posterity the events that transpire. He basically handles all of the content of Gekko State's magazine, ray=out, with only Holland having to sign off on it. Stoner is knowledgeable and rather philosophical. He has the aura of a beatnik and a fierce devotion to his trade, willing to risk life and limb to join sorties as an LFO passenger in pursuit of the one perfect shot.

Gidget

Age: 15
Job: Radar & Communications

Gidget may act like a somewhat ditzy teen girl into fashion at times, but she's also a natural reffer. In combat, Gidget usually coordinates communications between the Gekko and the LFOs. Outgoing and outspoken, Gidget is one of the more sociable members of Gekko State. She also has a thing for Moondoggie.

Moondoggie

Age: 16
Job: Oddjobs, LFO Catapult
Mission Code Name: Caterpillar

Moondoggie is another of Gekko State's talented young reffers. However, Moondoggie has a hard time talking with others, and he has a big crush on Gidget, though despite their mutual affection, they don't seem to be a real item...yet. Moondoggie also has something of an accent, and when he gets emotional, he can often be very difficult to understand (whether or not this will come across in the American version is yet to be seen). Moondoggie also seems to have problems with Renton, but it could be just good old fashioned jealousy towards the new kid. Moondoggie usually helps out by performing various jobs around the Gekko, though he occasionally mans the LFO catapult controls. It is rumored that Moondoggie has other talents that might be of use, if he would just speak up.

Mischa

Age: 40
Job: Doctor

Gekko State's resident physician and science officer, Mischa is also former military and has been constantly keeping Eureka under surveillance since then. As the doctor on-board the Gekko, it is Mischa's job to sometimes be the bearer of bad or harsh news, and she does so with rigid scientific bluntness. However, Mischa is also a kind-hearted person underneath it all, and she particularly cares a great deal for Eureka and her well-being.

Ken-Goh

Age: 45
Job: Weapons Specialist

The actual owner of the Gekko, Ken-Goh serves as the ship's gunner. Like much of the rest of the crew, he is former military, and he has all the markings of a dutiful and gruff military man. However, Ken-Goh became disillusioned with the military he spent so much of his life serving after meeting Holland, and he is one of the original members of Gekko State. He is equally loyal to Holland as he is to his ship, and he will fight to the death for the sake of both.

Jobs

Age: 33
Job: Technician

Jobs snuck aboard the Gekko after reading an issue of ray=out along with Woz, and he has been a member of Gekko State ever since. A realist and a snappy dresser, Jobs tends to keep himself out of the normal social circle aboard the Gekko most of the time. That he usually spends most of his time in the secondary bridge and engine control areas making sure the Gekko's hardware is up to spec keeps him further isolated. He is, however, more than happy to do his part for the sake of the Gekko's cause.

Woz

Age: 33
Job: Programmer, Hacker, Radar

Woz arrived aboard the Gekko along with his friend Jobs, and he is charged with the task of writing, maintaining, and updating all forms of software used by Gekko State. He is also an extremely talented hacker, capable of breaking into even military information nets, so he is an invaluable asset to the Gekko in battle. Woz is certainly a strange man to say the least, and his programming work keeps him constantly busy and often out of the Gekko State social scene. He occasionally serves on the bridge manning the radar and hacking in real time during combat, and he is as dedicated to Gekko State as anyone, even if he is a bit eccentric.

Maurice, Maeter, and Linck

Ages: 5 (Maurice), 4 (Maeter), 3 (Linck)

Calling Eureka "mama," these three children make the Gekko their home. Curious, troublemaking, bratty, and extremely attached to Eureka, the kids cause a great deal of trouble on the ship and make Renton's life fairly miserable. Linck, the youngest, is the quickest to cry and the most bratty (but also most curious) of the bunch. Maeter is upbeat and tries to act like a big sis to Linck, though she ends up crying almost as quickly. Maurice tends to be somewhat shy but is also the most adventurous and mature of the bunch, and he plays the role of the big brother well. Still, the kids are extremely young and in an environment that clearly is not ideal for raising and educating them, but they and Eureka make do the best they can.

Gonzy

Age: Unknown
Job: Unknown

A strange little old man, Gonzy seems to appear and disappear like the wind. It's not even clear if he's actually a member of Gekko State, other than the fact that he seems to live somewhere onboard the Gekko. However, he does seem to be something of a fortune teller, and his predictions tend to incredibly accurate, so the crew shows him a certain degree of respect.

The Cast Of Characters - Part 2

WARNING: SOME MINOR SPOILERS!!!

The United Federation and Other Cast Members

Dewey Novac

Age: 36

Dewey is the former commander of the United Federation's Special Operation Forces, the SOF. Court martialed and imprisoned in disgrace following Holland's revolt against the military and the formation of Gekko State, for which he was held responsible, forces have been set in motion that have made those high up in the sages' council call for Dewey's reinstatement into the military. For what purpose is not entirely clear, but what is clear is that Dewey is completely convinced that he alone possesses the key to humanity's future.

Anemone

Age: Unknown
LFO: theEND
Pet: Gulliver

Anemone is the strange and high strung pilot of theEND, the Federation's most versatile LFO. As such, she is a key figure in Dewey's plans. Unfortunately, Anemone's personality is extremely unstable, and she experiences violent mood swings. Her behavior is usually unpredictable, and when it isn't, you can normally count on her being a queen b!tch. Even still, she seems to dislike riding in theEND most of the time, and she requires injections of large doses of medication in order to engage her lust for battle. When she's out in theEND, Anemone is ruthless and uncontrollable. Indeed, the only person in the world she listens to is Dewey, who she devotes herself to completely, body and soul.

Dominic Sorel

Age: 20

Dominic is an elite officer in the Federation military, and he is Dewey's most trusted advisor. Dominic serves Dewey loyally, but dearer to his heart is Anemone, who he deeply cares for despite the fact that she tends to stomp all over him (sometimes quite literally). Unfortunately, Anemone is too enamored with Dewey to notice Dominic as anything more than a servant. Dominic has a strong sense of justice and righteousness, and he will fight to protect the things he holds dear. In many respects, Dominic is not unlike a sort of mirror image of Renton.

Jurgens

Ship: Izumo

Captain of the Federation warship Izumo, Captain Jurgens is a by the book military man. He holds great esteem in his position, and he is the consumate professional soldier. He wages war against Gekko State and has sworn to take them down as his primary duty as a Federation captain. He is driven by his own sense of justice almost to a fault. Jurgens tends to be extremely peeved whenever Dominic is assigned to his ship, as Dominic almost always questions his authority and usurps his power aboard the ship.

Ray and Charles Beams

LFOs: Spearhead SH-101s
Ship: Hakucho

Music lovers at heart, Ray and Charles make the perfect couple. They do everything together, have matching china and silverware, and even Ref in tandem. However, there's more to the happy couple than meets the eye. Former members of the SOF, the two take on mercenary jobs for a living. But things get really interesting for the happy family when they cross paths with the young Renton Thurston.

Axel Thurston

Age: 68
Job: Mechanic
Hometown: Bellforest
Known Relatives: Adrock Thurston (son), Diane Thurston (granddaughter), Renton Thurston (grandson)

Renton's grandfather has plotted out a career as a mechanic for his grandson. Too bad Renton's head seems to be in the clouds, just like his father and sister before him. Axel just doesn't want to lose Renton the way he lost Adrock and Diane, and while he'll support his grandson anyway he can, the one thing he wishes for more than anything else is his safety and the possibility that he'll be able to return home someday.

Adrock Thurston

Hometown: Bellforest
Known Relatives: Axel Thurston (father), Diane Thurston (daughter), Renton Thurston (son)

Renton was still a young boy when he lost his father, and while he does remember him, he doesn't remember a whole lot about him, other than that he was mostly absorbed in his work the majority of the time. The circumstances surrounding Adrock's death are shrouded in mystery, though it is known that his death saved mankind in an event that has been recorded in history as the "Summer of Love." Adrock's legacy is a constant plague for Renton, as he feels nobody sees anything in him but "the son of the hero." It is Adrock's fate that Axel most wants Renton to avoid.

Diane Thurston

Hometown: Bellforest
Known Relatives: Axel Thurston (grandfather), Adrock Thurston (father), Renton Thurston (brother)

Diane Thurston practically raised Renton for much of his childhood while their father was too preoccupied with his work. After Adrock's death, she left to pursue her dreams and has never been heard from since. It is Renton's hope that he can find his sister sometime. He has much he wishes he could tell her about the life he's lead and the things he's seen, so much of the series is narrated by Renton and addressed to Diane.

Morita

The chief engineer at the military's Tresor Technical Research Facility, Morita runs the top engineering staff in the world. He was one of the lead engineers who worked on the typeZERO archetype, and he apparently has something of a past with Holland. Despite technically working for the military, Morita and his crew are somewhat independent and free to conduct their own research when they aren't too overloaded meeting deadlines for the military's latest weapons and LFOs.

Dr. Bear

Real Name: Greg Egan

The head of the Nirvash archetype project, Dr. Bear is perhaps the most brilliant scientific mind in the world. He's also one of the strangest. He works only on projects that interest him, and his work on the typeZERO archetype is some of his defining work, setting a precedent for LFO production. His theories are often outrageous and difficult for most people to comprehend.

Tiptree

A member of the Vodarak people, opposed to the military, Tiptree is wanted by the United Federation. Little is known about the Vodarak by most people in the world, though their religion seems to call for a higher level of spirituality than you will see in most other people in the world. They are also known for their exotic and spicy cooking.

Norbu

A great sage of the Vodarak, Norbu is wise and powerful. He is also a bit odd and eccentric. As a spiritual leader, his teachings can often be dense, and the things he says may not be easy for most people in the world to accept. But are his words really full of nonsense and laced with a side of mumbo jumbo, or are his teachings essential to understanding the true nature of the world?

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Many names in the series are, in fact, references to movies, books, or other sources. Here are at least some of the name references.

Renton Thurston

Named for the main character of the 1996 film Trainspotting, played by Ewan McGregor.

Adrock Thurston

Named for "Adrock" Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys.

Gidget and Moondoggie

Named for the main characters of the 1959 movie Gidget. Moondoggie is named for Gidget's boyfriend in the movie. Also related is the 1965 TV series of the same name, also featuring a male character named Moondoggie.

Jobs and Woz

Named for the founders of Apple, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

Hap

Named for the legendary surfboard maker, Hap Jacobs.

Maurice, Maeter and Linck

Named for Maurice Maeterlinck, the author of The Blue Bird. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911. Main themes in his work are death and the meaning of life. Talho is also shown reading the book ( "L'oiseau Bleu"/"The Blue Bird" ) in one episode.

Anemone

Though the sea anemone is the more commonly known organism bearing this name (which does make some sense given some of the series' aquatic themes), the anemone is a genus of flower species of the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. The plants are perennial herbs with an underground rootstock, and radical, more or less deeply cut, leaves. The elongated flower stem bears one or several, white, red, blue or rarely yellow, flowers; there is an involucre of three leaflets below each flower. The fruits often bear long hairy styles which aid their distribution by the wind.

Anemone may also be a reference to Coinlocker Babies by Ryu Murakami, featuring a crazy girl named Anemone and her pet crocodile Gulliver (which just so happens to be the name of Anemone's pet in Eureka seveN).

Dominic Sorel

Named for Georges Sorel, French philosopher and theorist of radical syndicalism. Sorel also argued for the value of "myth" over "truth" in being able to motive people to political action.

Ray and Charles Beams

A triple whammy here. The first is a cute pun (Ray Beams). The second reference is yet another musical reference, as they are named for legendary performer Ray Charles. And finally they are also named for famed furniture designers Ray and Charles Eames.

The Golden Bough

The Golden Bough is the seminal work of Sir James G. Frazier, attempting to trace the evolution of human society from savage beginnings to the rise of moral and ethical codes of modern society. This work is referenced more than any other single work throughout Eureka seveN, including references to the King of the Wood, the Sacrificial King, and the rituals of the priests of Nemi.

Tiptree

Named after James Tiptree Jr. She was the author of the short story (which was also a line spoken by Miss Tiptree in episode 8) "The Only Neat Thing To Do." While Tiptree seems to have a man's name, this was just a pen name of Alice Sheldon, who deliberately took on the name to break down the barriers between supposed "male" and "female" writing.

Norbu

Named for Khyentse Norbu. Norbu is a high-ranking Tibetan Buddhist lama, and he is Officially recognized as the reincarnation of a 19th century Tibetan saint. He also happens to be a critically acclaimed up and coming filmmaker, having directed The Cup in 1999 and Travellers and Magicians in 2003. He was also a consultant for Bernando Bertolucci's film "Little Buddha." The name "Norbu" itself is Tibetan for "jewel" or "precious gem." Indeed, one of the many names the Tibetans give to the Dalai Lama is "Yeshin Norbu," the wish-fulfilling gem.

Ciudades Del Cielo

Spanish for "Cities of the Sky."

KLF

Assumed to be related to the British techno group, KLF, or, alternately, the Kopyright Liberation Front.

LFO

Also named for the British techno group, LFO, which stood for Low Frequency Oscillator.

Vodarak

Likely a reference to Bodarak, the place where the Kannon Buddha is said to dwell.

R606, R808, R909

Named for Roland drum machines type TR606, TR808, and TR909.

Mon-Soono

The various Mon-Soono KLF models are named for KORG synthesizer models, like the MS-10 and the MS-20.

Dabu Ghraib Prison

A fairly obvious reference to the infamous Abu Ghraib prison facility at the heart of scandals involving the torturing of Iraqi prisoners at the hands of American military officers.

Alice, March Hare, Red Queen, Mad Hatter, and Caterpillar

The code names most frequently used by Gekko State are references to Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

Nenokatasu

A sort of underworld where the Japanese mystical gods go after death. It is ruled by Susanoo Nomikoto and exists distantly across the seas and underground in Japanese fairly tales.

TECHNOBABBLE - EUREKA STYLE

The world of Eureka seveN is populated with a lot of unique concepts and technical terms which can overwhelm those who can't follow the lingo. Here are some of the key terms to know.

Transparance Light Particles (TRAPAR)

Invisible particles that flow through the atmosphere in high concentration Raylines. The Trapar is the basis of the technology of the world of Eureka seveN. The towers which the towns and cities are based aorund are giant power generators that generate power from the Raylines. Using Trapar Reflectors to gain lift, a craft can fly with a virutally unlimited range on the flow of Trapar in the Rayline. Because of this, it is no surprise that the towers also serve as ideal locations for airports. Indeed, the towers are so important that the proper name of the Federation is the United Federation of Predgio Towers.

Every flying craft has its own Trapar signature. This is assumed to be from the method which is used to gain lift. The Trapar are invisible until reflected off a Trapar reactive surface. A Trapar which imparts force onto the reflective surface emits light for a moment. This, in effect, makes the wake of a Trapar ship visible. By having a sensitive Trapar detector, a travelling ship's wake could be used to identify and locate it.

Ref / Reffing

The technique of reffing, using a board to ride the Trapar waves in the atmosphere, takes its name from the Reflfection Boards that the rider uses, much the way skiing is named for the skis or skating is named for the ice skates.

In the American version of the series, this activity will be known as "Lifting."

LFO

Light Finding Operation. LFO is the general term for the mechanized and frequently transforming combat vehicles found in Eureka seveN. The 606, 808, and 909 are all LFO Terminus models that Gekko State uses. The Nirvash typeZERO is considered to be the original archetype LFO, making it a legendary machine of unparalleled value, and all other LFO and KLF types have been built based upon the Nirvash model. Gekko State also tends to stray away from the use of explosive weapons that pollute the sky, opting to primarily use close range blade type weapons and long range beam cannons equipped standard with their LFOs. The Nirvash is not equipped with a cannon, unlike the other Terminus models in Gekko State's arsenal.

KLF

Kraft Light Fighters. Aside from the type theEND, basically all military LFOs are referred to as KLFs. They are intended essentially for combat only, and against most types of opposition, they cannot be beaten. There are few tactics in battle which can effectively fight off a squad of KLFs, outside of countering with other KLFs or LFOs.

Mon-Soono

The primary enemy KLF type. Currently in service are the type 10 and type 20, though a replacement model is already in the works which will be called the MS-VC. Equipped with the CFS (Compac Feedback System), the Mon-Soono craft don't require any special skill to pilot, making them ideal for military use.

Flow does one of the Op's? They did the 4th Naruto opening which is pretty good so I'm hoping [AS] will leave the openings in.

Wow - very nice. Did you just write this all up or have you had it saved for when it was announced?

Where did BONES confirm the episode title references? DVD commentary or something?

They're not all confirmed, but several of the Japanese sites I culled information from claimed at least some of them to be confirmed.

Meta, would it be possible to get a list of VA's (for the main characters, anyway?) I can't seem to find one...
Urahara: You put it on like this! Put it on your forehead like so... and yell from the top of the lungs... "TAKE THIS! THE POWER OF JUSTICE! JUSTICE ARMOR! JUSTICE HACHIMAKI! ATTACK!"
Ichigo: O... okay I get it. Put it on the forehead like this... LIKE HELL I'LL DO THAT!
[Dodges an attack] AAACK!
Urahara: See? Now isn't the time to be embarrassed, right?
Ichigo: DON'T ACT LIKE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU!! D*mn it, guess I have no choice... TAKE THIS! THE POWER OF JUSTICE! JUSTICE ARMOR! JUSTICE HACHIMAKI! ATTACK!
Urahara: Wow...! You actually did it...!
Ichigo: You BASTARD!

There hasn't been an official announcement on the English Voicecast yet, but Yuri Lowenthal is the only VA pinned down (voice of Renton).
